The NYTimes today had a good piece about the bribes..ahem, no, the offsets, that US military contractors give states buying US equipment. Some of the states that require such offsets? Britian, Switzerland, Israel (interestingly enough, Israel demands the US give them extra goddies to buy US equipment (with US money at that) while Jordan and Egypt don ask for Offsets. Dumb Egyptians and jordanians! Milk the US for all its got). So, if someone wants to buy 20 F-15's for how many billions, the US contractor then has to porvide services such as helping that state develop the ability for itself to build fighter crafts. Contracotrs say that if they didn;t provide such incentements, many states might decide to fogo buying weapons in the first lace, and spend their money on toehr things, and then, who wins?

Why not punish Cuba by closing Guantanamo? And reward Saddam by setting up American bases in Iraq?

Does this mean that the American occupation is finally over?

Olaf : IIRC, the western occupation of Germany (US, French, and UK) has been completely over by the mid 1990's. These American bases are located in Germany in accordance with NATO.
BTW, it is a vicious attack against Germany ! Where will the Germans find decent beef and mexican sauces when the Americans leave ?!

We can build F-15s now? cool.
Oh, and Egypt does get a little bonus. It has it's own Abrams MBT production line.

ndustrial co-operation between the two countries - moves that could cost the Germans billions of euros.

If this is true, I wonder who would suffer most?
On a side-note, if the US bases in Germany are closed, little American girls won't be able to do this in 2031: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=77182
