Be afraid, be very afraid - a little horse played civ 2 for the first time yesterda
My oldest boy (8 years old) played his first game of civ yesterday. He took Romans at chieftain level and played with the tips.
I just left him to it. He built lots of cities in a small area and churned out tons of Phalanx. Was doing very well on the powergraph but I think he's going to learn about starvation soon.

Obviously a cheap ploy to build the +1(x2) wonder, now that DrSpike's let the secret out.

He's not like me, more like his mother. Smart as a whip.
I'm worried he'll soon be beating me - I think I'll turn the advisors on to screw up his game
The Chieftain level is excellent for teaching the game if you turn the tips on.
Maybe I'll dust off civ 1 so we can play some hotseat.

Wait'll Ming and/or rah see this - they'll insist you're teaching him bad habits by letting him play Chieftain.

Yep, teaches all the bad habits. But I think that's AH's plan so he can continue being the best player in horsie land.

if AH was really going to teach him bad habits, then it'd be 2x2x, king, huts only with an altered rules.txt

I introduced my 10yr old daughter last year as she was learning Ancient History. She likes the building part of the game, but not the fighting. Probably the opposite of AH's son (although why Phalanxes?). We've discussed history, economics, technology, diplomacy - wish we could get some credit for this in homeschool...

Of course the little tyke would be much better off if his father does teach him someone else's stratagy instead of his.
Only getting 32 gold from a caravan delivered to a large enemy city. Jeeze, he probably didn't even prime the delivering city prior.
RAH
Sorry, couldn't pass this one up.

I have this mental image of Earl Woods and an 8 year old Eldrick
In 10 years this kid might be better than all of us.
Fortunately some of us will be dead by then, and a lot of others won't care

 good one.
Do you guys let each other deliver caravans without an agreement, or do you have to jam then down their throats and worry about them being attacked.
I can see Deity prepping the city before the caravan arrives so it only has one trade arrow.

One on one convo in the car, Sunday afternoon:
Little Horse: "Dad, can I play civ when we get home?"
Horse: "Sure son."
Little Horse: "When can I start playing online with your friends?"
Horse:"Hey, you're only playing your first game! You'll have to practice a lot more, I'll give you a strat book to read..."
Little Horse: "I guess I'll have to get my own laptop now..."
Horse:
Little Horse: "Well? We can't both play online at the same time "

You can always play him in hot seat mode and the winner gets to advance to MP games. I'm sure we'll enjoy playing with him.

With the rate kids learn these days, it wouldn't surprise me if (to butcher A New Hope) the student rapidly becomes the master....
imagine, A Horse, dressed in brown shabby robes, the little horse dressed in the latest black polymer suit (with matching helmet... both with laptops, facing each other across the mall...
Little Horse says to the old man...."when I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master..."
Alex Horse to Little Horse "Only a master of Civ Three Little Horse, if you strike me down my score will become greater than you could possibly imagine...."
