Resistance is mounting against the US invasion of Iraq
Two separate news items:
First, Arab countries have passed a resolution to deny support to any country that takes military action against Iraq.
Quote:
|
"(The foreign ministers) affirm the necessity for their countries to refrain from offering any kind of assistance or facilities for any military action that leads to the threat of Iraq's security, safety and territorial integrity," the final communique said.
|

Second, Turkey may hold back assistance for US
Quote:
|
Ankara says weeks of talks with the U.S. government have not produced a final deal on a multi-billion dollar aid package some officials in Ankara say is linked to parliament's approval of the troop deployment.
"The U.S. has stressed how important it is for parliament to approve the passage of troops by February 18. We said how difficult this would be...how it may not be possible to get the motion through parliament so quickly," Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis told reporters after returning from talks in Washington.
|
No money no talk, George. You need to grease some palms. The aid package is just a drop in the bucket of the overall expenditure, why so cheap?

Re: Resistance is mounting against the US invasion of Iraq
UR: The entire world has already voiced its support for the USA sinking into the sea.
Nothing the world does is going to change Bushies mind. Nothing the world does (or even Americans do) is going to change the majority of the American publics mind. I know, its ignorant. I know, its stupid.
The best we can do is sit back and watch while the USA shoots itself in the foot. Because its going to happen regardless.

From the first Reuters article:
Quote:
|
But the call, made in a final communique after a day of often heated debate, fell short of a binding resolution that would pose difficulties for Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar, which host tens of thousands of U.S. troops preparing for a possible war on Iraq over its alleged weapons of mass destruction.

Nah... once American media tells the public to change their mind, they will.

Half the world pisses and moans about Israel, and half pisses and moans about the US, with considerable overlap between the two groups. Nothing new here.

There's only one support # that really means anything.
Sixty nine percent of Americans support the attack on Iraq.
If we can't go in through Turkey we'll go in through Kuwait only. Who is going to stop us?

I have no idea where the war thread is. So take this.
Iraq will try to stop us. Good strategy for a desperate nation. It was a good strategy to set the wells afire 12 years ago as well.

The City of Los Angeles has recently passed a resolution against Bush's plan of invading Iraq:
Quote:
|
02/21/2003
Los Angeles Says No To War
The City of Angels' City Council: No To War!
The City Council of the City of Los Angeles passed a resolution against preemptive war with Iraq. The council voted 9-4 in favor of the resolution proposed by Councilmember Eric Garcetti. They failed to pass the resolution earlier this week, but it was put to a re-vote so that more of the council could vote.
This follows on the heels of Santa Monica's anti-war resolution.

UR: The Kuwaitis accused the Lebanese of writing the Arab League declaration without input from the member countries. Ooops.
Re the Turks, it looks like they're on board. Parliamentary vote probably Tuesday.

This is so true. Public opinions depend on the media much more than we are ready to admit.

They didn't get what they wanted the first time so they kept voting until they did?
Are the LA city council democrats or something?

34 nations on board as of today.
Article on Arab League was not fully posted in UR's first post.
Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait providing direct support. Saudi allowing use of sophisticated intel stations in their territory. Saudi's still considering basing some US aircraft out of their territory. Jordan agrees to let US use their bases for "emergency" landings. This resolution was merely an attempt to cover their bases for after war unity.
Turkey is on board. No one in US or Turkey ever assumed that they would not be.

UR keeps trying I will give him that. He's hatred for Bush blinds him though.
