terranx startup crash
Just picked up Planetary pack and am attempting to get into SMAX.
Currently, I can only play "Quick Start" games or "Scenarios" in SMAX. Any attempt to initiate any other type of game results in a terranx crash immediately after the Rules selection.
Status:
1) Installed v2.0 patch
2) Turned off mousewheel (it was never active since I use a track ball anyway, but I verified it was off with msconfig)
3) Cannot find SMAX crack for no-CD anywhere - not at megagames or gamecopyworld, although this doesn't seem to be the issue
Any ideas?

Yep. same one. Also same one from the postnet Rams/Blues boards and the Rivals boards.
So who might you be over on the Rams board?
Also, any ideas on solving the problem mentioned?

Already had the 5 meg v2 patch for SMAX.
The link at megagames takes you to a page which says to select another server. Problem - there is only one server.
I enjoy watching good defensive football and the Rams this season were just plain awful on that side of the ball. Hope next season gets better.
Thanks for the attempt at a solution.

I'm Slaghead over there too, I just don't post but very rarely. I'm constantly reading though and I like your insights into the defensive standpoint of the game. Anyway, I don't know exactly why you're having that problem because I've never had a problem with the game myself. You said you downloaded the patch for SMAX v2? First make sure it's the five megabyte one not the three megabyte one because the bigger one is supposed to fix that problem from what I understand from other posts on here. Are you sure the no-cd crack isn't available at Megagames? I think you need to search for Alpha Centauri Alien Crossfire or something. I'll go see if I can find it over there myself in a second.

Tried applying the "fixed exe" link provided after applying patch AND before applying patch. No joy with either attempt. Still crashes to desktop at rules selection in everything but quick start.
Thanks again.

Slaghead, please, what is this crack CD download for smacx? I removed smacx from my computer because it always [Always!] crashed with a terran.icd error. Can this download solve the problem. I'm getting tired of smac. Thanks

Slaghead, forgot to ask you. Is this patch in addition to or in lieu of Firaxis patch for smacxv.2? Thanks

Sorry, no. That file I linked to only allows you not to have to have the CD in to play the game. The 5 meg patch is supposed to fix the terran file problem from what I've read on here before. Again, I've never had a problem myself, so I only know from what I've read on here. I had hoped someone who has had these problems would have responded here by now, but oh well. hehe Anyway, make sure you have the 5 meg patch, it's downloadable from this site, and not the 3 meg patch.

Also, I think that I'd download the file from this site rather than the one from the Firaxis site as I guess someone has had at least that version of the patch work for them. Good luck.

This may not work for others, but finally worked for me.
1) Ensure you have enough disk space to have SMAC and SMAX installed in SEPARATE directories.
2) Install v4 patch for SMAC in SMAC directory ONLY. Patch available at www.aliencrossfire.com (downloads) or GameCopyWorld.
3) Install v2 patch in SMAX (Planetary Pack) directory only. Patch also available at www.aliencrossfire.com (downloads) or http://www.maxtarget.com/games/pc_al...i_alien.shtml. Be sure you are using the 5.1 "Official Alien Crossfire v2.0" patch.
4) Download "Alien Crossfire v2.0 [ENGLISH] Fixed EXE" from http://www.maxtarget.com/games/pc_al...i_alien.shtml. This is a 1.4 meg file. Backup terranx.exe file in SMAX directory. Then replace terranx.exe file with the "Fixed EXE" file.
5) Run Alien Crossfire using the axstart.exe in your SMAX directory.
6) Run SMAC from the SMAC directory using the terran.exe file. DO NOT RUN SMAC from SMAX directory or you will be running v3 vice v4.
SMAX works without the CD after doing the above. There appears to be some sort of compatibility issue with the v4, v2 and "Fixed exe" patches.
