Civ...should I try it again?
Hi guys,

I havent played Civ3 for a while now cuz I just got bored with it and I was wandering if anyone could tell me if the expansion is good....or worth it. I saw a thread that mentioned 32 civs at the sametime or something. Is that right? Is it worth buying? Can you tell me the pros and cons?

Thanks.

Wtf? 8 read and no comments?? Come on people, should I buy it or not? I cant find a trustable review on the net, I need a gamers opinion, not a "pay-me for a good review" review on gamepro.

Thanks

Probably no one posted as this has been debated adinfinitium.
How can we know if you will like it or not?
I felt it was worth while and I had no interest in MP.
Others felt it was a rip, because MP has/had many problems.
If you want more details go to the PTW sections and do some reading.

There's been so many threads like this asking the same question about something that's strictly subjective, I guess everyone is getting tired of answering. I like it myself and I would recommend it, but it's up to you. The game hasn't gone through any drastic changes so if you were bored before, you might be bored again. It depends on your reasons for getting tired of it in the first place. There are some good improvements in the game, like better stack movement and rally points to name a couple, but it is still just Civ III.

Of course playing some new civ doesn't need to be boring.

Especialy if you can later play Hotseat Mp with your friends.

Or experiment with Radar Towers and Airports.

Or trying some scenarios/maps from PtW.

If you got bored with Civ3 and MP is not your thing, then you should remain as your name suggests.

I know what you mean, Spectator.

There was an aspect to vanilla-Civ3, before some of the patches, that sorta screwed up the "must-play-next-turn" addiction.

I'm pretty addicted to PTW1.14.

Happened Monday night (we all know the feeling)... started playing around 5pm, and BOOM it's 1am!

(endorsement: AU 204)

What else can I say?

If you do buy it, try Ralphing. ( )

So if I get it right, PTW is not an expansion of Civ3 but a whole new game? Meaning that I dont have to have Civ3 installed to have PTW work. Right?

No. It is an expansion pack; it is not a whole new game.

I've played more Civ3 since getting PTW (and the 1.14f patch) than I played when I just had Civ3. The game really seems to have come together. I will be taking a break soon to try out MOO3, but this is like the other Civs in my opinion... I'll come back and play a few games every couple months during the lulls between any other decent releases (said lulls are becoming longer and longer in the last few years...)

It creates a sub-folder within the regular Civ III directory, and it's about 500 meg in size.

Did I just answer this over on the PTW forum or am I going mad?
