Embarrassingly true for myself as well...
But then a gain, I play more succession games than solo efforts these days...

Ahhh, caught me
I should have said, 1 einstein allowed and science set to 0 %.
(Although 0 science and 0 eins could be interesting too )
I feel dumb for forgetting 0 eins means no science from caravan delivery, but then, you spelled einstein wrong
Oh, and my best landing date was 1720something.

I'd play a no Einsteins and no science succession game, so that the only techs we get are from huts and the AI.
Of course, this makes Writing and Mapmaking incredibly valuable.
And the best wonder suddenly becomes Marco Polo's, with the Great Library close behind.

Before we embark on such a game - someone should SP it to see if it is possible to win at all -- WoWs need enabling techs -- my gut feeling is that this one would be doomed

of course its possible - people have won zero-city games (by default 0 science).
and if you are meaning an AC game, just look at the OCC fortnight #12, the fundy game. with many people the AI stayed ahead of the human player tech wise so there were multiple space ships - it was a race to either land first or to get the enemy AI to recall their spaceship. with a decent amount of cities, you can build the 5.7 space ship in no time flat, beating the AI to the punch. And keep in mind the AI isn't going to do a whole lot of researching for a while at 0% science. We always can steal techs or conquer cities to increase our knowledge.
Also, there was the OCC diety+5 games (didn't get to play that those) where the only way you could keep up was by trading techs - people won those games too.
Point being that as long as we have a way to get techs from the AI or the ability to disable the enemy's space ship the game is winnable

Big, expansive map and distant enemies makes a difference.
We could try the same setup on a Small map and see...
