4000BC
Surveying the land, our brave settlers notice a lack of specials, and a rogue hut infringing on the river banks.
Two settlers!
Sooo much easier than the other game.
Setter2, we'll call him billybob of the luddites insists that he must take the hut. Surely the grubby barbarians will accede to billybob.
Settler1, Joe, will found our first city near the river.
3950
Pop hut (127,83) for all the darkside hutfinders,
get NON chariot! The chariot agrees to the name of sam.
3900
Build capital of Arkwright near rivered Delta with Pheasent.
The luddites will build what they destroy.
billybob finds a mound of Gold!
Right by the starting location.
Lock science at 0 percent. Wouldn't want to play 10 turns at 60 percent, now would we?
3850
Starting to look very hilly. Might need to cram the
second city close to Arkwright to get the gold.
3800
Nope. Got some grassland near the gold and another pheasent. Here comes city no 2.
3750
billybob levels the terrain.
3700
Arkwright spits out warriors.
Build our second city, Newcomen with Pheasant/Gold.
3650
sam spots hut, starting to find some flatter terrain.
3600
Tip hut,
Get Nomads!
3550.
Tough choice. Decent city site, port, no visible
specials. Decide to let chariot finish searching city site.
3500
Arkwright builds second warrior. Fortifies for defense.
Switch to settler.
Newcomen builds warrior.
Build 3rd city, Bessemer.
3450
Tip Hut.
MASONRY.
Crowd shouts.
PYRAMIDS, PYRAMIDS..
Throw rabblerousers to the lions. We must city spam before we can start the Pyramids.
sam finds whales, wheat 6 squares south of Bessemer.

3400
Arkright approaches size 2.
Tickle Warrior in Newcomen.
3350
Warriors sent to climb the hills. Definately hillbillies in this game.
3300
Pliny votes us most cosmopolitan.
Bessemer cranks out first warrior.
3250
Tickle Third warrior from Newcomen.
Switch to settler.
Spot 2 huts!
3200
Hut 1 tipped.
Get 50 gold.
Warrior tips second hut. Barb horsie!
Newcomen works the Gold.
3150
Barb horsie spanks our warrior.
Rides AWAY from empire.
3100
Tip hut
Get Archers supported from Bessemer.
Tickle Settler in Arkwright.
3050
Settler finished in Arkwright.
3000
sam tips another hut. He's a hutfinding demon.
MYSTICISM.
I humbly resign for our next despot, HYDEY!
3 cities, 50K people. One settler and lots of good
land to work with.
Decent treasury of 44 gold for the next player.
We are first in land area:
78,000K!

Analysis
We already have one settler built by the capital so the one shield in the box will now go towards a Temple.
Change workers off gold in Newcomen to maintain a food surplus. If science was allowed I might work the gold to hurry advances - but this game needs growth.
2950
One warrior has been assigned to finding good city locations not too far from home.
2900
Trevithick founded on the river south of Arkwright.
2850
Hut 50g.
2800
With lines 2 and 3 missing in the build box, incremental buying opportunities are limited.
2750
100.000 population. Hut: Advanced Tribe Watt not What
2700
Newcomen builds Settler
2550
Hut: 50g - we are rich but ignorant!
2500
Crompton founded
2400
Arkwright builds Temple; Hut - Horse which is killing Watt not What's production!
2300
Hut: Do you want the good news or the bad news?
Good news - Nomad
Bad news - The walk home will take him until 1AD
2250
Hargreaves founded - first red face
2200
Tacitus has us third amongst the most wealthy nations.
Trevithick builds Settler
2150
Arkwright starts Great Wall - if Pottery ever falls out of a hut it could be the Gardens.
2100
Settler joins Arkwright now size 3 with a production of 5. Second city in F8
Hut: Barb (Now a vet Chariot )
Hut: At last a scroll of wisdom. Don't get excited its Bronze Working
2050
Newcomen builds Settlers
2000
The science situation is dire. Hut luck has not really helped. There is a Settler on the gold mountain which I was going to unite with the capital. One more settler after this one (plus a warrior) and Arkwright can begin the Xin It's probably best not to found a load of cities as the unhappiness will be rampant. Better to have about three size five cities working Xin cycles.
The horse in the wilds of the far west may meet the Zulus as his home city records him as being near Ulundi.

Play list updated. As noted therein, there's a lot of us and there's some management opportunities available in our cities now, as well as exploring to be done. So let's shift down to 12 turns per player, for now.
DrSpike, if you want in, we can fit you in. This will probably be a long game.
Then again - I've been wrong before, re: long game.

The cash helps tickle settlers. We don't really want any other cities past 3 until we get Arkwright to Xin.
I thought it best to get the maximum cities allowed under Despotism, before extra city unhappiness emerges, and then use the helper cities to build into the core cities.
Pyramids will help with the growth.
I like the city names, my next city would have honoured James Watt.
Perfect irony for space luddites.

obiwan18 The only thing that the high corruption levels of Despotism doesn't affect is food. Working the gold gave no food surplus. Either way we needed Settlers for new cities or for increasing the size of existing ones, so food was essential.
Many of the players here, myself included, are just learning how to cope with long periods under this awful form of government. Experienced operators usually know how to leave Despotism at the speed of light - not live with it.
So at the end of this one we should all graduate with The Star of Sticky Despotism Badge along with our other medals.

Yep, normally a 3rd millennium BC graduation to Monarchy is expected. Somehow the Despotism Badge isn't required to make Eagle Scout.

Well, they may have been 14 turns but they seem to have been 14 good turns
Getting Alphabet and Code of laws means we just need Writing/Literacy for Republic, IIRC Nice work!
It would be nice to get Pottery too but hopefully it'll be available soon - either from a hut or a Zulu.
SCG is up...

Nice work Hydey
...but there is one small question based on...
"...bump into Zulu horsie, they offer a peace treaty which I accept, I ask to swap techs and get Alphabet and code of laws for Mystisim and warrior code, I ask for maps but they tell me to F off "
Do you think having Map Making would help??

Basic Despotism Questions
Jump ball for anyone...
How many cities can we have under despotism...
1) Before a red face comes in a previous city...is four, right.
2) Before the first citizen of a new city is red face?
3) Before the first citizen of a new city is black face?
^^^^^^^^
hopes #3 is mooted by our getting to Republic.
What would #'s 2 & 3 be under Republic??
Thanks...Monk

BM, it depends on map size. For standard/small 4 is theoretically the answer to both 1) and 2), though in practice you can squeeze a 5th city in with little hassle most of the time. The 9th leads to your first black face(s) in despotism.
Under rep it's 8 allowed, and no black faces till the 17th.

With luck, we can be in Republic by 500 BC.
In the Seriously Tricky Game, we just got into Demo in 380 AD. That was with Science allowed. We might be lucky to get to Demo (Statue, Fundy) by 1000 AD in this one. That's a lot of wasted turns...

I agree STYOM ... perhaps even later 1000AD.

A commie government with 0% science?
Might as well go fundy.
You can get a tech a turn, once you get the caravans rolling. All the cities will celebrate, and we will rake in the cash. We will dominate the world with our units, and cities.
Republic? We will struggle for shields the entire game.
Granted WLtD will help, but will we get the people soon enough to benefit?
My choices would be Demo/Fundy rather than Republic or Communism.
