Bloody Monk:
Why else have 'zoo cities?'

But really, the deciding factor was how much harder Republic will be.

If that's the case we could have done Monarchy.
Should be fun anyways... I don't play republic often.

Or rather, WHY have zoo cities??
@obiwan
Whether in Fundy or Republic our best bet for getting advances is by heavy offshore trading. Zoo cities are not good trading partners. And if our reputation is slammed by overly rabid behavior, I think we will have a hard time getting our vans delivered to inland cities. This is not a game for the dark side of the farce, IMHO.
Yes, Monarchy was a possibility; but, it is not so hard as Republic. Big cities (food routes), with courthouses, that are celebrating are easier to manage as the King. Republic-no science will be an interesting experience.

Since it seems that many agree with the statement, I believe the most expressive response to you, M La Fayette, is...oui, oui.

When the Science screen comes up for selection, I chose Monotheism--for Mike's Chapel.

May the f arce be with you.
Why 80% lux? Usually there is no benefit past 50-60 percent lux to get cities celebrating.

Good eye, obi. Normally this is the case. But this game is far from normal, as you know. The problem is our two size five cities that are lacking Markets. At 70%, Bessemer needs an elvis to celebrate but then lacks the food surplus required. Hence, 80%. Someone needs to irrigate various places.

Sir Rabbit,
Are you going to be able to play?? I assumed La Fayette would have jumped in by now. If you are back, I can post a zip for you.
Someone should play, I think.

...but only briefly. Yesterday was Jet Lag Day (back to USA from Allemagne, still prior to the start of Bush's Folly ), said hi to family, slept.
Now (10 March) at work, can D/L, but unsure if I'll have time to play tonight because...
I've gotta pack and fly out again tomorrow, to Austin (Bush's Fortress) for the rest of the week.
My fear is that, between Quality Time for the family and packing for the next foray, I won't have time to do this right. (Looks like the game will require a lengthy study session at The Institute prior to actual play.) Some interesting stuff going on here!
All for now. Gotta get back to work -- no comp connection from substandard German hotel so I've got a week's worth of email etc to deal with...
will check in later today after further reconnoitering (sigh)

Cannot play tonight. No time.
Passing baton to La Fayette. I'll jump back into the rotation when I return Sunday (16th).

Well, my task is perfectly clear: finish researching Mono and build Mike. This means Xinning, then tickling.
Main events:
200AD: disc.MONOTHEISM, research MEDICINE
220AD: Hut = SEAFARING
260AD: Embassy in Hamburg
Hut = UNIVERSITY
(MIKE to be completed next turn, and a lot of caravans loaded with silk on their way to rewarding delivery)
LF resigns after 10 turns and goes to bed

Nicely done, La Fayette
Mike's will bring a great swell of happiness to our Republic. With Medicine/ Shake's, Arkwright can further expand, eventually. As we begin to deliver camels for routes, beakers, gold, let's not forget to build harbors and settlers to improve the land. A perfectionist approach is called for, I think.
Also, glad to see we have budgeted a doubling of our Navy. With such beginings we will reach the stars!!

I was thinking I'd check here for the "Nothin' Fancy" save file, in case La Fayette got confused.
