Thanks!

Simple - Micro$$$$$$$$$$$$$$oft is evil. That pretty much describes every other strip, too.

No, Illiad hasn't been hitting MS that hard recently, and I haven't heard about this .net, so I'm wondering what stirred him up.

.NET is like Java, only quite a bit better and more flexible.
In the third cell, that's what the guy on the left asks about.
The guy on the right makes a very lame joke (that would warrant a shot in the arm). I'm not even sure what the joke is. That's how bad it is.
Basically, MS is Satan. .NET is by MS. So therefore it's "platform-satanic".
God, somebody smack them.

I'm sure even Asher would agree that Penny Arcade and This Modern World are more humorous than this comic.

Penny Arcade is usually pretty good. Gabe's a moron sometimes, but who isn't?
I never got into This Modern World. The comics MarkG posted turned me off completely...

My thought on Tom Tomorrow:
If you need partisan flame humor to survive, you don't deserve to survive.

Ahem.
That's not what that guy asked. He wanted to know if .NET is platform independent, i.e., write once, run many. The answer is no.

The answer is YES.
What do you think Rotor, Mono, etc. are all for?
Tell .NET to compile to intermediate code (syn: Java bytecode), it runs it through the .NET CLR (Rotor or Mono for *nix, Apple is making an OS X port, and the Windows XP one has been available for over a year)

I'd agree it was pretty poor, but I don't think it's worth getting all worked up over.

Was that the last time Penny Arcade had a funny strip?

Tell me about it.
"MS sucks"
"MS rocks, you ****er"
"Stop being a little ****, Asher"
"Don't don't be a ****er, UR"
And then they proceed to out-geek each other, with both of them ultimately claiming victory. Pity that none of the rest of us can understand a ****ing word they say.

Now that's just a trick question.

UserFriendly rules. I have every single of its strips archived to my hard drive.
What do you think Rotor, Mono, etc. are all for?
Attempts unforeseen by Micro$oft to prevent the omnipresence of Windoze?

UF is okay. It's the least-regularly-funny of the comics I read, but I still read it.
http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2000-12-06 had me laughing hard by the time it finished up.

Uh... what? I'm not sure what you're saying.
Rotor was made by MS. It's open shared source, developed for BSD, and runs .NET code.
Ximian is working on Mono, another implementation, with help from MS.
So I guess what I'm saying is, how is this "unforeseen"?

Ah, that explains it. Shared source = evil attempt by M$ to kill OSS.
Oh, and my screensaver is a sequence of random UF strips.
