What I love is :

* Fixed bug with hotseat/PBEM victory conditions and rules.

I assume it's about these games changing rules on the fly, like becoming captain difficulty. With the patch, I assume we can now play PBEM / Hotseat at emperor level without risking it to degenrate into chieftain.
Can a Firaxian confirm please ?

Oh man. I'm getting MOO3 tomorrow and now this!? Guess I'll have to rotate which game I'm playing.

So, now the real stuff I want to know!!!
If the patch fixed all the lag? Is there less lag than the 1.14? Is this lagfree?
(Warpstorm: Yes sir, when you got some good pings! )
Nice day everyone!

Not a Firaxian, but I've tried this and the difficulty setting now sticks.

Hmm, a patch. I saw this news yesterday while browsing the MoO3 forums, was thinking "1.21f? Isn't that already out for Civ3..must be European". Of course, now I realize its PTW and 1.21f not 1.29f. Patch looks pretty good, though doesn't seem to be any major changes to SP, the military advisor speed getting fixed is great though. For now though, my galatic conq-, er unification must continue in MoO3.

Good. I'll wait a bit longer to download it, though. Terrible past stories of wrong patches and fubared installations... Although, from what some people say, this one seems to be OK.

And now for my usual stupid question: can I install this patch over the vanilla PTW or do I have to have v1.14 in place prior to do so?

All Civ3 or PtW patches previously could be implemented on vanilla versions of the games. I cannot install the patch now (I have the UK version), but it is very likely the patch can install on a vanilla PtW too

What about existing PBEM games? Can they continue if the patch is applied to one or more of the players' copies of the game?

So they've fixed some of the game bugs. Whooop de do. There's none of the improvements I was hoping for. I'll finish my existing PBEM games and thats it for CIV.

I wouldn't expect any enhancements in the future either (as I didn't in this patch), just bug fixes from here on out (although, I'd like to be pleasantly surprised).

Well, enhancements are for CivIV.
I know, but I can always hope.

I wonder what Soren did to the AI this time. Last patch was GREAT in terms of AI - Changes. They don´t mention it, as always.
Experiences ?

Here's a little bug (of sorts). If those with US versions upgrade we cant play PBEM with non-US versions. This has led to a big bollux-up with some people (including me) upgrading then trying to remove the damn thing (with the usual success).
On that note, does anyone why the splash still says 1.21 if you remove 1.21 with windows 'add/remove programs'? It seemed to work (except for the splash) but it would save a bunch of trouble if I knew for sure.

No **** sherlock, but I dont spend my time worrying about what version you have or if you're involved in a game with someone who's involved in a game with someone who's involved in a game with me.

Now since only real difference between US and non-US versions is copy-protection, here is one small test.
Non-US user downloads US patch.
Then "installs" it in some backup directory (just to not overwrite original 1.14f patch)
Now, pick 1.21f civ3x.bix and civ3Xid.mb files and put them in your PtW directory (backup original 1.14f files).
Now try playing the game with such setup.
Will it them be compatibile since you'll use same BIX files as those with 1.21f version (but you'll still stay with 1.14f patch)?
I don't know.
Only time will tell.
Someone could test it.
.
P.S.
By the way and chance of post-patch chat with Firaxis?

Took a chance, and lost
OK, I waited for this patch (past the 90 day refund period) thinking, no make that hoping, they will get it all working.
I still can't connect to games (no firewall, no router, no anti-virus).
I unisntalled, erased, re-installed to no avail. Totally frustrating.
I don't think I'm the only one who still has problems. Whats the trick? $500 of new hardware for a $30 game? (I already swapped NIC, tried new video card, exchangd some memory with friend).
The only reason I bought it was to play online, and it still does not work. Any magical words of wisdom, anybody find the 1 odd-ball thing that made it all work?
Running Windows XP Home (up-to-date).
Soundblaster Live
Nvidea MX440 (Elsa).
Athalon 1.2ghz T-Bird on K7S5A MB.
512K DDR.
PS
Other Directplay games I use work fine.
Any hints as to what to try would be greatly appreciated!
