I would be happy to play against Paul in a DT3, if he accepts it.

"Although I can see why you want them in the same game the idea of "limited military" does seem oxymoronic. I mean if you don't want direct contact to jeopardise the builder idea then why not just give them the same scenario and see how they go?"
It's not just "multiple SIM-City" googlie, at least not the way I intend to play it.
There are two aspects of winning the game - building yourself, and doing everything you can do to interfere with the other guy.
Competition for SP's, blocking access to special resources and landmarks, racing for pods, ambushing exploring units and transports carrying artifacts, plundering improvements, blocking territorial expansion, attacking and defending energy parks, etc. Then there are the beloved probe teams.
Saying it's "not SMAC" is a little semantic, or a little pedantic, or a little of both. AI factions are nothing more than targets to plunder, as LoD said. "Submissive pact" - not with me. They are inefficient wastes of real estate, once I've taken anything of use. When I load the game, it say SMAC, mindworms are SMAC, the terrain and dingy graphics are SMAC, the unit workshop is SMAC, random events are SMAC, combat resolution is SMAC, etc.

Well, LoD, by now I figure my reputation precedes me wherever I go - no point in pretending to be a nice guy.

Yeah, I know, and in the light of this fact I'm suprised that you don't have a nickname like "MtG the (Nerve) Gas Man" by now .

Apropos the debate on game type, I think a good method would be to first set the game parameters, and THEN let the players choose their factions, allowing each to change after seeing the other's choice until both are happy. This would introduce a completely different dynamic, and would require some tough choices (Do I rush, defend or turtle.

I am curious to know why these games are being played PBEM and not IP as only two persons are involved. Is this because the multiplayer software is unreliable or what?

Why PBEM ? Because it does not force people to be on-line simultaneously. As an example, Lod is in Poland, and MtG is in Mexico, so it could be difficult to find a common time slot to play IP.
Anyway, a PBEM/Hotseat game *can* be loaded as IP, it's up to the players to do it.

Even though I lost, I enjoyed my DT game against Tau Ceti and wouldn't mind playing another one. But don't expect me to play quite as fast as I did back then; I don't have as much time to play as I used to have.
By the way, whatever happened to DT1, DT2 and DT3? Did they die?

Here's the actual DT1 thread:
http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum27/H...098.html?24#24
I think Vel conceded between 2155 and 2160. The thread just died, and there is no mention of what happened, but Zsozso had what I'd call a commanding lead at the 2155 update.
It's very interesting that Zsozso was doing so well running Green in all the updates that showed Social Engineering, whereas Vel was running Dem/Planned/Wealth in 2140 and Dem/FM/Wealth in 2150.

DT3 is still running, with less expert players than the DT1, 4 and 5. Last update I've received was 2265. DT2 was abandoned (unless LoD manages to taunt MtG well enough for him to pick up the game again ).
I wish I had the time to do these nice updates as I did for DT1, but unfortunately R/L interferes once more...

I was just about to post that I would withdraw for this one because I had already played a DT game and Mark and Hobbes both had not yet played one. But I am still available for new DT games if you need a player.

In all fairness, I saw that Fist was going to beat me up the tech tree when I was about 10 techs away and switched to all money to try to beat fist if he got there first and somehow failed to finish his base... on my own I would have transcended no more than two years after fist if I'd kept my research.
Okay, I may be interested in doing another game if someone wants to play a loser.. Maybe Paul and we can have the battle for the worst of the transcenders? Or I always enjoy playing games with Misotu... or both if I'm feeling sick in the head.

Heh. Well, "almost as bad as Googlie" is probably right. I'm only in 15 concurrent games right now, vs Googlie's 22
I'm in the process of moving at the moment, so my turns might be a bit sporadic in a couple of weeks. But I'll happily play Tig - and Paul too if he would like to take the game - both old friends from a number of MP games ... those early turns don't take too much time and I'm keen on the fast turnaround that the one-on-ones provide.
