That's not exactly what I meant. *EXISTING* infrastructure (ie. Cities, factories, etc) that was there before I started that country didn't even appear on the map.
Anyway, I like my current country a lot more. #248 in the world for White Giant, whoo~!
Sandman, would you be able to invite me (Alecrast) into the federation as well please?

If you conquer the country, can you assimilate it, or does it get automatically assimilated?

You cannot assimilate it. You just run to countries.

You run it as another country. If it was controlled by another, they lose their access and you get mailed a password.

if your education is any lower than 80, build more of what is needed, and increase production of school teachers.
In any case increase raise all of the priorities. They should amount to 120 in total, BUT THEY DONT.

Education of your labour forces to improve your worker base (You want teachers, university teachers middle managers, and high tech executives mainly), removal of outstanding high interest loans (Usually a good idea to take out new loans at 4% (Search for that specific percentage, don't go to the world bank) to pay off the higher interest ones, then sit on those low interest ones for a while), elimination of non-profitable corps.

The trouble with closing down loss-making corproations is that they tend to be heavily indebted, and when you close them, you have to pay off the debt yourself.

If you can't make it profitable, the debt will only get bigger, so you might as well close it as soon as possible

So you keep them for a while to take out new loans at 4% to pay off their existing debts, while trying to make it more profitable (ie. So you can sell it to some sucker CEO).

Yeah, I know, but it sucks that you have to pick up those debts, especially when it wasn't your decisions that led to their being incurred in the first place.

Just see if you can try to pull them off.
I had a corp with 90Bil Debts (!), that was loosing money.
The debt has now risen to 110, but it's making a profit, so I am not worried at all. It's actually worth some money now.

A constant problem! I have plenty of Medium level workers, and not enough low level workers!
What workers go to the army to be soldiers?
I know that officers are medium level managers.

Low level workers become soldiers I think. If you need more low level workers (and have a lot of high level workers), use effectivity upgrades in your corporations. They free up low level workers but use more high level workers.

Couple things...there is promotion of workers up the food chain: lower to middle to high. In the case of high, as I understand it, they only come from middle level.
Middle level managers become officers in your army.
Low level workers become soldiers in your army.
The limiting factor in most agressive play is not enough officers.

I've got plenty of Unis, I can churn them out in droves, and change hiring for my Corps. as well.
War Clouds begin to form, around me. I am currently between two countries at war ( member of the same federation, btw! ).
I am thinking of joining on one side.
It seems very tempting. But then again, it will send my economy down the crapper.

no! I cannot give up because some stupid foreign country crashed my economy
(btw_ in this very moment I'm chatting with a gorgeous guy on icq and I still wonder why every single human being who happens to be cute is goddamn stupid as well )
Franit Empire raised its taxes to 50%- corporations are still going pretty good, except some weak ones that I expect to go bankrupt soon- as long as I build more and more clothes companies and keep upgrading it's ok
My govt index is still around 24 and nobody knows when this will change I noticed apolyton federation has LOTS of new members!

The military buildup in Mentop has now begun. I plan on building up my defenses first to a reasonable level, then to build up the offense.
I have my eye on a few countries that border Mentop and will hopefully be able to add them to the Apolyton Empire...I mean federation...

A benefit of having 2 countries under the same login (ie: when you capture another country) is that you can transfer money, weapons and people from one country to the other.
For me, that means my main country is growing by its standard growth rate + 25,000 people each month. I haven't transferred any money or weapons yet as I wanted to experiment with pulling a pathetic computer country up out of a hole it has dug itself into.
And since I discovered that highschools, not primary schools train teachers (thanks Malleus) my education index in the slave country is rising decently. My corps are chugging along improving quality/effectivity, but most don't have full staff yet. Once my education is decent, I'll begin staffing the corps fully. Social security is around 24% at the moment.
Good luck with your military conquests, DMJ.

Thanks. I'm a little worried since the computer countries around me have defense indices in the 90's for some reason...I think they used to be player-run. One of them has 13 million people though

Nice high population.
For general information purposes, the largest population of computer-controlled countries is in The Republic of Umerna, with 19,345,437.

It probably has lots of real shitty indices to scare people from taking it.
Oh, A market tip for you guys.

meh...first i want to get rid of my debt, it seems like i'm finally making a profit now that i've 2 Services companies.
My Internet companies profits have gone down a bit it seems.
The High Tech Services also isn't having the best profits now, but it's still a profit, and every little bit helps now.
Maybe once i've payed off half my loan (50 bil) i'll start another company.
