Should I buy PTW if I am only going to do SP?
Ok folks, now that the latest patch is out and all, I'm wondering about buying PTW.
Thing is, I won't be using it for multiplayer - single player only for me. Now, unlike a lot of people, I really like CivIII. I like the culture, and the corruption and so on!
So, would PTW be worth it for me? Are the enhancments to single player worth it?
Thanks for your time!

I think so. I play a lot more SP than MP and I like the enhancements.

They were worth it to me, mainly for the improvements in designing improvements.

And make sure to try to do at least one PBEM game. MUCH !!! more fun against humans (albeit slow).
But yes, buy it if your only gonna use SP

Thanks guys! Looks like I'll get it then.
I was going to get MOO3 but, well, suffice to say I've changed my mind about that...
As a matter of interest, what do you guys think are the best improvements that PTW offers SP?

The advanced editor options mean lots of nice looking scenarios. Not quite as customisable as in Civ2, but the Double Your Pleasure mod (more units, techs, Wonders etc etc) has to be seen to be believed!

Do not forget the interesting new graphic effects for bombardment. Eye-candy, I know, but I like it!

I only play SP with PtW, and I don't regret buying it. The new Civs, new units, and enhancements make it more than worthwhile I have yet to see the Double Your Pleasure mod

my favourite changes:
- removed (some, not all) hardcoded stuff
- 24 playable civs at once
- new and surprisingly interesting units (berserk, guerilla, etc.)
but most important:
there will be patches for PTW, but none anymore for civ3, which means those (admitedly few) bugs left will stay there forever...

Airfields. They're so handy.
Ancient units upgrading to Guerillas. I had stopped bothering to build archer/longbow before PtW.

I usually just play SP. Sometimes hotseat w/ my son. I still can't figure out how to get connected to the web.
Just the new civs make it worth while to me

Yes... I think that the original Civ3 sucked major ass, but PTW with the most recent patches is actually pretty good. In another thread I specifically exclaimed that Civ3 has been promoted from "sucks" status.

Proper stack movement and rally points! And some interesting features in the editor, especially regarding movement costs and overrides.

PtW's AI (since the first patch, v1.04) is a lot better in managing shield production, so building crucial wonders in monarch/emperor is harder for the human player.

Yeah, rally points and stack moving makes the game so much faster in later stages when I begin conquering people!

Yes. Just to play the Ottmans and overrun my old enemies with sipahis is worth €30 I payed for it.
The upgrade path for units are improved. New city improvments gives more choises and boring episodes in some endgame get shorter.
The only complain I have is the new anti-copying sceme that annoy honest buyers but not deterr crackers.

Yes. New civs, new units, better AI (at building anyway) make it worth it. Civ III patches are all incorporated. Well worth it for SP.

Yes.
In addition to the improvements mentioned by others (which I thought were worth the A$49 I paid) you also get some mods/scenarios and maps. The Double your Pleasure mod is absolutely first rate.
