Preferred Victory Conditions.
Please comment.
Reading another thread, I became interested in what VCs others prefer. I seem to get more cultural victories than any other, which is fine somewhat, because I often don't care how I win or if I've won. What I mean by that is, cultural victory or not, if I want to conquer the world I'll keep playing and do it. I don't forget the Aztec invasion of 3 thousand years ago and I demand payback.
I want to experience every aspect of the game at every level, so there are times I am trying for a specific VC, and at these times I turn some of the others off. However, I am ASSUMING the AI, as each civ, is trying for all the VCs that are on and thus I would be limiting how the AI plays if some are off. So I don't do that often.
My (brief) opinion of the VCs are thus:
Domination: unsatisfying, as I feel I cheated myself out of a conquest victory.
Space Race: fine, but I'll probably keep playing.
Diplomatic: I'll build the UN and make sure it doesn't happen.
Conquest: if I'm in the mood.
Cultural: happens too fast, too often.
Elimination: here's where I lose on the higher levels, but that's okay--the only way to learn how to win is to lose a lot.
Regicide: nice option. Wiped out France in ancient era recently--it regenerated and later became the best of my allies. Never would have happened before PtW.
Mass Reg.: too many kings (but they make good scouts early on).
Victory Point: haven't tried it.
Capture the Princess: why? She'd only boss me around.

I voted for Dom, but I use Conquest. I hate the Cult/Dip stuff. So it is usually Dom and ConQ. Conquest only if you are going for score.

Conq is my preference, and my only beef with Dom is that I feel like I should've tried harder if I was that g-d strong.
Still curious--if I turn of Cult, will the AI respond by not bothering to build cult improvements or particular Great Wonders? Or does the AI even pay any attention to what VCs are on? Or off?

I keep all the standard VCs. If you turn some off you don't have that opportunity to win. I just had a 53-hour game where I had to do a spaceship win (edited to be delayed until after Integrated Defense) because it had become the only option available.
BTW, the way the poll is set up, you can only vote for one, so I didn't.

Mea culpa. I will try to adjust that.
Vote anyway. I'm really curious.

I don't the AI would try any less, as cultural improvements serve other purposes (such as culture flip, or the prevention of such. Also the extension of your borders). Also, cultural wonders are necessary for cultural civs to get a pacifistic GA.

Long live conquest!!!
However, I usally end up winning through Space Race about 80% of the time.
Never had a cultural victory and never actually strived for one..

I wouldn't advocate striving for a cultural victory. Takes the fun out of planning an invasion.
Conquest is very satisfying towards the end of a long game spent building up a culture. But that usually means a cultural victory is on the way, spoiling the conquest victory.
I bring it on myself, it would appear. Note to self: Be nastier earlier in the game.
I am surprised space race has two more votes than conquest.

I voted for Conquest... oh sweet conquest That option satisfies my desires of world-wide domination
But I also use the Cultural victory sometimes.
And the diplomatic victory.. well.. that's not my fault... every other civ have me "polite" so...

Here's the prob: can't find names. Who's the mod? Nothing indicates moderator's name/user name in the top left of this page, or anywhere else I looked.
If the great and glorious Mod is out there and looking down, please hear the plea of your most unworthy user.

Hi everybody...
I usually manage to get a culture win by accident. I just like to build. Of course it's usually happens right as I'm kicking some AI butt and having a lot of fun doing it. I've started to turn off the culture win just so I can win another way. Only once have I won a different way. And that was by space ship in 2041. A few turns later and France would have launched. And if not they were kicking my butt in score and would have won. Got lucky there.

I try to turn cultural off, but fingers won't obey. Just once I'd like to see the AI beat me culturally. Guess I'll have to move up another level for that to happen.
Conquest w/ Regicide on is cool. The first time that happened, I took out Paris and Joan and watched all the other French cities collapse into rubble. As we had shared a small continent, I suddenly felt very alone.

I like space race when you have to invade to stop them building the ship

I like winning by Space Race. Wars to knock over enemy spaceships and espioage to put them back to square one are fun IMO.

It's definitely Conquest. I'm the best example for a warmonger There's nothing better as the feeling when you march into a country and force them to do your will and doing huge battles. I love massarmies and massbattles.
