I CANT SEEM TO FIND A WAY TO UPGRADE THE SHIPS WHEN NEW TECHNOLOGY ARRIVES!!!
THERE MUST BE A WAY SOME PEOPLE TELL ME YOU CANT < IS THIS TRUE?!!

If you were attacking the game on realism issues, I would have thought you would start at the top, being a god or emperor over some strange species.

It is may be unsavory, but it ould be a nightmare for the viceroy to deal with.
I don;t mind that so, but the fact that the AI is willing to kept making ships that have better components available.

There are
Hundreds and thousands of posts here and at IGMOO.
I am sick of so many "this was already discussed" replies.
Either answer the question, provide a link to the other thread, or IGNORE the post.
If the board moderators expect everyone to read through all of these posts before asking a question they're as misguided as IGMOO.

You can not upgrade, I personally don't mind. It wouldn't be realistic to upgrade the full ship, giving it new armour, engines, weapon systems, ect... that is essentially scraping it and building a new one - which you can do.
If upgrading was in, and was to be realistic, the most you would be able to do is upgrade some weapon systems or internals - and even then it should require some level of miniaturization or sophistication first.

I thought this was going to be a problem, but turns out not to be that big a deal. Since every player is stuck with their old ships, you see a lot of 'outdated' ships flying around. ANYway, when you do have new ships made, this old ones make good cannon fodder and can dish out a little damage, too.
I have started a regular program of updating my ship designs every 15 turns or so, especially the smaller ones that almost any planet can build. Any unplanned ships that are built aren't too out of date, then.
Also, since the ship limit is not nearly so severe as in Moo2 (which could limit you too just a few ships on a small map), it does not matter as much that they are less effective.
