Yes. Apparently there are still problems, too.

**rubs eyes** Aha! So I wasn't seeing things. Yeah, I'd think it's been down, considering there were only *FIVE* users present when I logged on at 1:35 a.m. CST USA. I've never seen that few people browsing until, well, this morning.

Brilliant.
This is what I tried to post:
I've been trying to get in for the past two hours, and was getting 'fail to connect' errors.

Dunno. There's glitches in threads that had 0 replies earlier today. See the "Rivers" thread in the Civ3 creation forum.

0 replies are no big deal. It's the ones that are without the opening posts that are funny.

What's with the 14 minutes and 46 seconds thing anyway? It's as if we are such a demanding set of users we will not accept "down for maintenance, come back later".

UR-
What IW meant was "threads with zero posts" (just like you described it).

Well the first time I saw it I thought it was amusing, and probably was a real (albeit spuriously precise) estimate. But it is always the same estimate, so it doesn't provide any info.

Something like this would be more humourous:
"due to the actions of one poster, Skanky Burns, 'poly will be down for the near future. When it re-emerges please feel free to castigate him"

Hehe, an interesting spin, but at least Skanky is used to getting the blame.

DOWNTIME REPORTS MAR 2-4
(5 March 2003, 06:33 | About) From 19:40 to 23:15 on March 02 and from 23:40 March 4 until 01:15 March 5 (all EST), our server was down. In the first case only parts of it were not fuctioning, but needed a reboot. On the second, we had system crash requiring additional (maintainance) downtime for the database after the server was up again(during which the non-database-using parts of the site were functional and forums were accessible via the the cache feature).
The first case actually lasted longer due to real life issues and not system failure. These problems ended a record-breaking close-to-two-months server uptime. The recent server changes have helped a lot in the "war on load"(and despite increase traffic(over 400 users for several hours every day, 600 registrations in the last 5 days)) making us feel more certain that we wont be dealing with similar issues in the near future again.
Our apologies for the disturbance.

To both the terrific uptime record, and to the randomly blaming posters idea.

I remember the days when we would see one of these downtime reports almost every week.
Congrats to the admins on getting everything to run smoothly (well ...almost ).
