A bit of everything, except RTS, racing, and FPS. But the one I like most defies classification: M.U.L.E.

I didn't feel like subcategorizing them (because EU2 is neither RTS or TBS though it could fit under 4x).

well I voted for TBS, RPG, and Sim
I do play some sports games like Madden football. But that is the only sports game I play. And even then I don't buy it every year. The PC version is pretty crappy anyways.
I rarely play FPS. I have played a little bit of Max Payne. Just couldn't get into it. I have also played. Counterstrike.
I could have voted for boardgames, but I never play any of those anymore. In the past I have played monopoly, risk, and axis and allies.

In order of preference:
1. TBS. The Civs, 4x games, and SMAC in particular.
2. RPG. Isometric ones as opposed to first-person, though. I even will count Diablo in this.
3. Simulation. In this I include the SimCity genre andf the flight sims like X-Wing.
I initially enjoyed the RTS games like Warcraft, Command & Conquer and Total Annhilation, but got really bored with the genre. I don't intend to buy any more unless I see one come out that is dramatically different.
I liked EU and EU II ok, but also got bored after a while. Too many stretches of tedious nothingness.
I would probably enjoy FPS more if they didn't give me motion sickness.
I never understood the appeal of fighting games like Mortal Kombat.

I remember this from my Commodire-64 days. Great game. Too bad the DOS version never came out.

4x games: MOO3, GalCiv, Space Empires IV, etc. Conquer the galaxy games.
I never considered SimCity a Tycoon game, but if that's where it goes, fine. I always considered those types of games to be business sims (Capitalism, Railroad Tycoon), which I usually find boring.

MOO3, SEIV etc.
Stands for exploration, expansion, ex -um- communication, and the extra one I can't remember.
Edit: Narrowly pipped by BG, but I see he doesn't know what the x's stand for either.

Wouldn't SimCity be a bussiness sim? I see 'bussiness' as "dealing with money", and AFAIK you "deal with money" in SimCity games...
Sim(ulation)s I always considered only applied to flight Sims... I can't see what SimCity has to do with flight sims...

I'd call MMOG's different to RPG's. In an RPG its usually all about how you save the world. In a MMOG you have to derive your fun from what you do in the world while it goes on saving or destroying itself whether you bother to log in or not.

You should have been pleased.
Besides, I'm in no place to criticise anybody for making wise-ass comments, since that's all I ever do myself anyway.

You've got that right...
The comedy in both SS1 and SS2 are great (I've heard they're making a third game...can't wait... does that one includes pyramids (of some sort) also )

I don't see it as a business sim. Lots of games deal with money management...like Civ!
Since Sim is short for simulation, I just naturally thought a city simulation would apply...

I think a business simulation would be more akin to Simcountry, for instance.

Strategy is about weighing up all available options and making a decision, which is why we say that very linear games (i.e. ones where you have little or no choice) have no strategy to them.
Admittedly, that definition of strategy is very broad - I think that a "strategy game" combines many different areas - like the diplomacy, city building, tile management and war of Civ games. On the other hand, something more narrow, like a "business sim" or a "war game" only deals with one of these areas.
That's the way I see it, anyway.
I believe that SimCity4 is a strategy game, and that SimCity2 was a "sim" game because in the older game all you really had to do was just throw down buildings while keeping an eye on the budget window and demand bars - IMHO SimCity4 takes it one step further than that.
