If it was true, why would the US deny it? (it was reported to be a joint Pakistani/American operation)

The CIA was very pissed off with the Pakistani's after that Khalid fellow was captured because the Pakis went straight to the press and bragged about the capture; the CIA on the other hand wanted to wait a few days so they would have the chance to follow up on any leads they found before the bad guys found out how close the cops were.

Of course the Bush admin initially denied the arrest took place. Dubbya thought his daughters might be involved.
