New copy-protection problems w 1.21f!(ALI CHIPSET)
After I installed the 1.21f patch the game stops loading after having seen the CD icon. I had to uninstall Civ PTW, then delete the directory in order to get the game working with older patches. I have tried the CD in both my HP cd-rw & my ACER DVD-Rom. Could it be IDE drivers?
I've read that Infogrames have changed their copy protection to secUrom? Is there any patch that might bypass it?(as with Civ3)

hi ,
okay , what about mods or scen's that you have imported , graphic , etc , ....
one other Q , what is your OS and are you updated ?
do you use security software when downloading the patch ?
when did you do a reformat the last time ?
did you look manually for files like infogrames , firaxis , civ , civilization etc , ....? these files remain after a regular uninstall , ....
have a nice day

-I uninstalled the game.
-Deleted entire PTW directory.
-I haven't downloaded any mods or scens.
Computer specs:
Athlon 1400
Asus A7A/266mhz mobo
Ati Radeon 8500
512mb Memory
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
All Drivers updated(video,mobo,sound)
Windows XP Pro SP1
Last format was about 6months ago.
I'd also like to mention that I am a Computer Technician, so I perform computer troubleshooting every day.
I'll uninstall CIV 3 as well as PTW & keep you updated.

hi ,
well dont forget when you uninstall them , do it to both ( civ and ptw ) and look for all files manually that you can think of , ..... delete , reboot and install , make sure that all your security programs are turned off when you install and get the patch , .....
lets hope this does it , ..... get back when the problem is still there , ....
have a nice day

I know where to get nocd patches & to my knowledge the nocd for the 1.21f version wasn't out yet.
Also let me remind you that the game works fine on all versions BUT 1.21f.
Thanks anyway

The first (and any) person that supplies a link to a nocd patch is toast. Again, Apolyton does not support or condone illegal patches for the game... You've all heard it before, just a simple reminder

WOAH!!!! Even the slightest mention of nocd patches in this forum get the moderators all riled-up.
K, now I'm not interested in getting the game to work WITH a theoretical *cough* nocd patch... because I actually PAID for the game... So moderators calm down & stop giving me hope for a solution to my problem by incresing the posts for no reason.
If anybody has the same problem that I do please post. It would feel good to know that I'm not the only person in the world that has this problem with the 1.21f patch only.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!
I was able to finally get the game working with the 1.21f patch by uninstalling the updated ALI Ultra IDE drivers. Why is there a conflict only with this new patch & the IDE drivers??? I dunno maybe Firaxis or Infogrammes will let me now(I do think so).
In the mean time if anyone else has an Ali chipset DO NOT UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS!!!!!!! if you want to play PTW that is. Otherwise enjoy the added performance of updated drivers.
