Perhaps I am misunderstanding the play. Only one person can play at a time, right? Then they pass it to the next? It seems impossible for 2 people to play their part (Front Commanders) except in rotation. If 2 Front Commanders grab the posted file at the same general time, the file returned will not reflect both.
That seems sequential to me.

35 turns in the game. If people dont want to stick around, that not our problem. We have enough kids from the SLeague, who are genuine scenario designers and enthusiasts to which this idea is like a godsend (the way we always wanted to play this epic game). The rest is speculation. We'll see I guess.

That should take about 2 years. My best good wishes go to you and your "dedicated kids from the SLeague, who are genuine scenario designers and enthusiasts to which this idea is like a godsend (the way we always wanted to play this epic game)". But if people don't want to stick around, that *is* a problem. I'm just saying that it is better to recongize this potential problem than to ignore it.

I guess this is a different kind of game then. If its a new idea I created, I didnt give it the right name. Simultanious Multiplayer PBEM? S&M-PBEM
|
Different games are wonderful. But a Demo Game is not a PBEM or other type. Demo is Demo.

The default WWII scenario by Microprose would simply not fly with the SLeague (which added to that the PBEMers which are Sleaguers playing) was the target group for my original post. Blame HTower for this one here. Our job over there is to make scenarios. We have so many in the WWII genre, but RF is like the monumental beacon to us all. It's strange, but it has a quality to it that is something special. I really dont think were going to have a problem with it.
|
No problem with your area of interest at all. To each their own. It's just that H Tower suggested your Red Front Scenario as our next Demo Game, and I saw some problems with doing that in a Demo Game format. I hope it works out for you completely and happily.

Yeah, good luck Klesh, but unless there are many of us here who know this scenario (I am not one of these) then it looks like your numbers won't be added to by those of us in this Democracy game..

Yes, sure. But if say one front commander is away, the other 5 or whatever can take thier turns, both ministers can all do their part. One minister could go, then 3 front commanders, then anothger minister etc. Then a different 'order' next turn.

I present to you The Age of War PBEM game. Of which several players are interested in this RF game. Thread started June 25, 2001, with over 1,000 posts. This represent 6 years in a scenario that lasts for 50. Of course this is a commitment that is just as great.

thanks LOADS guys for letting me put a proposal forward.
I guess it's pretty obvious that SLeague and Demo don't mix, let's just drop it already then.

which leads us back to the orginal question, what shall be the format of our next game?
from scratch again or some sort of pre developed world (eg scenario)?

Well, it sure shouldn't be a SS game. The previous one was military and oceanic. What about a large all-land military one?

That makes sense, and maybe if we go on to world map, we could be in Aisa or whatever. And yes, I've been say that we have the giga world map, so, I'll just put the file below, Note, website has a every weird scenario on the site too (or at least looks weird,) and the map I'm talking about is the sencond one, the frist one dosen't work: http://ostranderbellepoint.tripod.com/index.htm

can we rely on the computer to make us a decent landmass map? IIRC, this game was supposed to be a landmass game and turned out to be another island game.

that would depend on the settings used by the president when starting the game.
I have played on many random maps that would have been perfect for this

I like the idea of a large (contiguous) land mass gigamap as well.
I also like the idea of giving the AIs good starting positions and leaving us on a small island or a pole
As for using a non-computer generated map, why not have a non-participant produce the map and create the 4000 BC save? That's worked well in succession games. That way we know that we won't have some wacky map that doesn't match what we're looking for... and still retain some mystery in the game.

STYOM - I have a giga map start on a three tile island. (Not a scenario, but just luck of the draw) I will not be participating so it will be new to everyone. If interested let me know.
I nearly posted the 4000BC start ... but thought you may prefer it emailed.

Please send me a copy, SG(2). I'll PM my email to you.
I don't know if the people will want to play that map, but if they don't, I will. So I'll hang onto it until a decision is made.

i too have a perfect map... no water.... lots of mountains... I am not telling how big it is as the fog of war element is part of the challenge of the game.
No water means the super clad strategy can not be used again....

If a non-participant provided a map that would eliminate naval conquest, that would be perfect.

OK, I will provide the map, but won't participate in this game...... if that is what the community decides is the format for the next game
Aside from anecdotal or tongue in cheek comments

one last word of warning.... the name of the map is captain chaos. it is purely random in terms of terrain spread, but 99.9999999% non ocean. there is no standard to placement of terrain. EG AI generated maps place tundra at either pole, you will not find it so in this map. The last thing i want to hear is who the &^%*& put patches of tundra where the equator should be!!!! The bottom line is buyer beware.
