Excellent explanation Catt. I'd just add that I know a bit about the above point. When checking out the trading cost computation as presented in my "AI-human trade revisited" thread, I found that based on aggro level of the opposing AI (as founf in the editor) and difficulty level of the game, the AI increased its demands by up to 20%. This demand was reduced by up to 2% based on attitude, with a 1% threshold somewhere in polite and another somewhere in gracious.

I didn't find any other effects when getting the AI down to furious, but I don't remember whether I only tested this on an AI that already demanded 20%, which was max.
