I have a DSL connection, so speed isnt a big problem, abut anyway, decide and let me know. I have ICQ also, so its easy to contact me (sunday is perfect for me also)
Just in case:
SMACX: Pirates
SMAC: University

Auric: speed as in how long a turn takes to play out. This is play-by-email and the save games are sent around after each turn. With this type of game your connection speed isn't an issue. A fifth person just adds to an already long game time.

Some ideas for the rules:
- Small/Standard world if we do four players, Standard if we do five.
- Normal worms, erosion, rainfall.
- Medium water.
- Difficulty: I don't care.
- All victory options on, plus co-operative.
- Flexible start.
- I don't like accelerated start or starting with some of my bases developed for me, I prefer to decide all that for myself. We could start with extra pods to speed the beginning up, though.
- No preference on research (Blind, Directed) but if we're going to make this game last for some time I think Blind research would make it more interesting.
Anyone else have preferences to the rules?
I don't mind a fifth player, but then I think we should take some steps to speed the beginning up a bit, be it established bases or extra pods. I'm not so sure how successful we'll be in getting five people together for an IPX start.

I prefer minimum water and directed research.

Sounding good. Small world with high percentage land (70-90%?) is fine with me.
Is anyone comfortable with creating a scenario (or doing whatever needs to be done) so that we start with multiple colony pods or whatever else we decide on?

I think so. Googlie has done that for players in the past, maybe he's willing to whip one up for us.

So you guys wouldn't like it if I knew your starting locations and lay of the land?
Seriously, I was hoping that you could do a random map with attached attributes. Doesn't sound like it though.
Does someone know how to get ahold of Googlie?
Duma you in?

Damn... lost my lengthy response. Ah well.
To summarize:
- I'm in.
- Typically, it's good to have a CMN to make the map and manage the passwords. I've asked HObbes, but no guarantees.
Hmm... yep. Cheers.

DuMa intimated that you guys may want someone to set up and accelerate a game for you. I'm happy to do so.
Email me with the details including factions once finalised, and if you have a preferred password. Do you want AI's?

Awesome, thanks HObbes!
So, guys... who'll take the notes to finalize the rules?
I'm pretty darn easy-going... though I do think 'small' is a bit small.
As for general rules, I'd suggest the tournament rules. I'll edit this post and put in a link which outlines them... basically, they're rules against cheating.
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=14379
Heh, it was the first post in the AC-Multiplaying Forum. Easy to find. Anyways, just wanted to point out the section, in the first post, called "PBEM specific rules/restrictions on exploiting bugs (latest changes in italics)"
That be that for now.

Okay, so to summarize:
SMAC game
Thinker difficulty
AI's take the rest of the slots
Extra pods at the beginning (I think 3 is the norm, can anyone confirm this?)
---
mox (todd@sudoflux.com) is the Gaians
Gunnar Thor (gunnith@nff.is) is the Spartans
Lazerus (Kris_no1@hotmail.com) is the Hive
duMa (modowd724@hotmail.com) is the Believers
---
Standard planet
Normal worms, rainfall and erosion
Low water
---
All victories on, including co-operative
Tech steal when conquering
Directed research
Flexible start
Other issues:
[4] - Are we going to try to get all of us together for the weekend for an IPX start? Saturday's out for me, at least.
Hobbes (jcrocombe@aardvark.net.au) has agreed to be our CMN, we just have to firm up the rules and send them to him.

difficulty only really hurts zak, morgan and the AI right ?
1) Its usually played on transcend though unless any1 objects.
2) I don't mind a few extra pods but equally im for starting with just starting with the basic pod and scout since with ipx we'll soon have decent sized bases before pbem (not so keen on the idea of established bases).
3) yes
4) yeah, sats out for me aswell, 1year with my gf so im going out. Sun is fine though got nothing as of now
Cheers Hobbes

Heyo,
In response to:
1) Transcend or a notch below it is fine with me for difficulty.
2) Extra pods are good for me.
3)AI's, yes
4)Sunday should work for me. What time? I'll try to clear out my schedule.
5 players if fine as long as we have extra pods to start.
Blind research works for me
Everything else Gunnar stated looks good to me
Also, put my email down as todd@sudoflux.com
Almost forgot, thanks Hobbes!

Okay, I edited the list above. Thinker is the next one below Trancend, that okay?
Sunday's good for me for IPX, after 7:30 - 8:00 pm GMT.
[EDIT] Do or die?

starting units for tournament map are as follows:
Each faction starts with 4 independent scouts, 1 former and 4 colony pods, plus 2 non-independent formers
too much?

It ain't all bad! Sorry folks! (if it wasn't me, it'd be someone else, admit it ;)

Guess we won't be starting today. It was a bit much to ask of Hobbes anyway to have a map ready on such short notice.

I hope to have it ready later today or tomorrow. Don't be too impatient, you've probably got 18 months or so for the game itself!
