Acronyms: MPG vs MGE
The recent posts by MarkG and Ming illustrate the fact that we are not consistent with our use of acronyms when referring to Civ2 Multiplayer Gold Edition. I prefer "MPG" because it emphasizes the Multiplayer aspect of this specific version. However, "MGE" is certainly correct, using the fist letters of the title. Any thoughts?

Hey, MacUser, how ya doin'?
I prefer MGE for the version. It's the Multiplayer Gold Edition. To me, MPG denotes a Multi Player Game.

I agree with this. Having been a wargamer for over twenty years, MPG always makes me think of multi-player game. When I see MGE, I know it means Multi-player Gold Edition.

Don't think so. You had to buy the multi-player version. Which was the original game with the bits added to allow multi-play, which is why the game has always been so buggy, because the added bits were added slap-dash. That's according to someone who worked on the process at the time, anyway.

Agreed. The former is the name of the game, the latter is what we do with it.

Hmmm. Never thought of it that way! Civ is the first video/computer game I've ever really played regularly. Seems that others agree with you too.

Actually I've heard MPGE also.

Technically neither is an acronym as an acronym must spell another word. MGE though.
