What did Saddam do?
I have seen a report from the USA the other day and it got me thinking:
Why exactly do the Americans hate Saddam this much? What exactly has he done to the American people to become the most hated guy in USA?

Saddam Hussein is not the most hated guy in America, Osama bin Laden is.
However Saddam Hussein is the most hated guy in the White House, very likely it's a personal issue since Saddam tried to assassinate George Bush's father.

The American people hate him because the media and government [now] focus on his atrocities and hype a non-existent bond with al-Qaeda and potential WMD's, while ignoring more dangerous threats to the US and worse regimes as far as human rights go.
The government hates him because he was our boy and then defied us.

Daz, I'm an American and most of my friends are Americans. And I don't know anybody who harbors a deep personal hatred for Saddam Hussein. We know he's a murderous tyrant, and the world would be better off without his kind, but we don't go apoplectic about it.
However, I know lots of people who would like to see Osama bin Laden hanged and would happily attend his execution.
Saddam tried to have the elder Bush killed when he visited Kuwait in the mid-1990s. Bush the elder was not a head of state at the time of the attempted assissination, he had been out of office for several years.

Ok attempting to assissinate your ex- head of state is a good reason for a strong dislike.

Saddam is a madman and one of the worst dictators alive. If he gets killed or removed from power, the world would be a better place. However, to remove him is not the business of Uncle Sam, but of the Iraqi people, just like the removal of George W. Bush from power is the business of the Americans and nobody else.

When Bush Sr. visited Kuwait around 1993, Saddam was planning on killing him with a car bomb. For one reason or another, it didn't come off.

Because they tell us to hate Saddam, that's all. Americans are sheep. Sheep with guns, but sheep nonetheless. Despite all the bravdo about being individualists, we have an amazing hearding tendency and pretty much do as we are told. Those of us who are real individualists suffer criticism and ostracisation.
We are the most propagandized people on Earth. Even the average Chinese has a much better idea of what's going on in the world than the average American. They just can't talk about it.

As for the alleged assasination attempt, an article to which Oerdin linked in my victory thread (attempting to prove that there was a real plot) writes this:
Quote:
|
A senior White House official recently told me that one of the seemingly most persuasive elements of the report had been overstated and was essentially incorrect. And none of the Clinton Administration officials I interviewed over a ten-week period this summer claimed that there was any empirical evidence—a "smoking gun"—directly linking Saddam or any of his senior advisers to the alleged assassination attempt. The case against Iraq was, and remains, circumstantial.
|
It remains unproven.

To answer your question, we the American people have no idea what he has done since he has been in power. We know some of it. Iran war, attack an American Naval Ship in the Gulf 87 USS Stark? Gas both his people and Iran soldiers. If we knew everything he has done, we ourselves might want to go there and put a bullet in his head.
Only BushJr., knows why Saddam is a target now, and he is not telling us why. I mean the real trued.

ramo thats ridiculous we aren't ignoring them. we know they are there. this is the typical hypocrisy u find by anti war protestors.
they yell at us for ignoring othe rppl. but would they support us invading them? no. so really all they are practicing is duplicitous arguing tactics to try and make the other side look bad. instead of engaging in any fruitful thot.
