The Apolyton 100
PLEASE DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD
The Apolyton 100
The Apolyton 100… now more professional… not just my views and knowledge on them; but reformatted to more state the facts and turn from a small “community” editorial into something more like a historical book, reporting the facts, only the facts, and just the facts…
(Which will hopefully make certain that I am not flamed for my work )
The Apolyton 100- over 70 pages of Data, with usually a full page entry on each Apolytoner. It’s not complete, but it’s as complete as it was possible to do. It represents a gigantic investment of time, but it can be made better- please, if you have any suggestions for improvements, or more information on yourself or others, please post in the companion suggestions thread or email me at ftg3(AT)lycos.com

+Dissident’s two former logins are included in his total: Krushala with 1317 posts. And Puaxant Tuvip with 399 posts.
*Boddington’s wins the award for falling the most positions without falling off the list due to the various massive PCRs he has suffered.
*Provost Harrison has probably lost the most posts to PCR’s but has managed to only fall two positions since losing his deity status.
*DanQ’s position didn’t change at all

The List Proper
----
aux1. HershOstropoler
Former Usernames: (Roland)
Famous DL's: (none known)
Real Name: Roland?
Age Group: 30?-40?
Nationality: Austrian
Lives: Salzburg, Austria
Registered: (before) 2-15-99
Had/Has A Website: ?
Contribution to Apolyton: Debates, AC-Fiction, The Apolyton Economicist!
Description:
Roland, along with Sergeant Sheets, Rang, Imran Siddiqui wrote the Chronicles of Chiron, the first collaborative story about the computer game Alpha Centauri on Sidgames before Alpha Centauri was released and had it posted in their stories section. Sadly, however, Sidgames is now defunct. Although DarkCloud still possesses the story on his harddrive, and perhaps Imran, Dookie or fjxorc may also have it; if someone is interested. When reading the story, this was created in the days before the Hive had its current name and when Provost Zakharov was known as Provost Sakharov.
He mostly visits debates on Apolyton as of March 2001.
Around November/December 2001, Roland changed his Username to HershOstropoler, which, according to research done by Sagacious Dolphin, happens to be the name of a court jester to an C18-19th Rabbi. Supposedly, he had his former account locked and the post count zeroed because he only wanted to post in the off-topic economist threads.
He carries the EU flag as his flag of choice on the forums.

aux2. Evan Von Christoph
Current Username: Thorn
Former Usernames: EvC, EVC, Cecil, Evan Von Christoph, Chris EvC (et. al.)
Former Titles: Apolyton Daffy Duck (Given to him by JohnT)
Famous DL's?: (Lucifer D. Satan [A satanist], General Steelman (supposedly an intelligence officer looking for dangerous terrorist named Evan von Christoph), Emperor Craetsezar, advocator of Roman imperialism with whom Evan had lengthy flamewars.) ...though popular speculation holds that Giancarlo and CivNation2001 are his DL's )
Usernumber: #2366
Real Name: Chris Evan VonChristoph
Age Group: 20 [Aug 9, 1983]
Nationality: American
Lives: Pennslyvania?
Had/Has A Website: ?
Contribution to Apolyton: Spam. Micronations. Spam. Apolytown. Spam. "Funposts". Humor.
Description:
My first introduction to EvC was when he was using the login Evan VonChristoph and announced in a thread that he was homosexual.
Well... after that colorful introduction I soon learned that he was one of Apolyton's legends! He had been one of the major spammers of 1999 and had joined Giant_Squid and Jasonian in Apolyton Micronationalism in the Audenitor Independent Nation- which was formerly called Apolyton Independent Nation, but, because MarkG and DanQ raised legal issues, the name was changed.
The AIN disbanded in late 1999 and EvC moved to the FIoJ "Flying Islands of Jasonia", but he soon became bored of Micronationalism and returned to Apolyton where he has since appeared at varying times... Mostly every 3 months (when the name change feature becomes active, and/or he returns from a banning) he will change his name and post a lot.
July 1, 2001, EVC received a 10% PCR and a week ban for spamming the OT and ressurecting dead threads, the ban courtesy of Ming… Then on the 17th he was banned for another week by another OT Mod, this time, MichaeltheGreat… EVC manages to receive bans quite regularly…
EvC was finally de-facto permabanned after he gave his password out to people in the Apolyton OT some time during 2002. However, he returned as his regular old self in the guise of Thorn, and continues to post under the login.
Then, on December 30, 2002, Thorn managed to get restricted again for spamming. This time by DanQ, completing his round-robin moderator ban- EVC is perhaps the only poster to be banned by Mleonard, MarkG, Ming, MichaeltheGreat, AND DanQ… Which says a lot, since DanQ hardly ever bans anyone

aux3. Michael the Great
Former Usernames: (none known)
Famous DL's: (LTEC!)
Real Name: Michael
Age Group: 30-46
Nationality: American
Lives: Tijuana, Mexico
Registered: ?
Had/Has A Website: FreeFireZone (Formerly a site for the game Combat Mission; had a thriving Off-Topic Community)
Contribution to Apolyton: OT Moderator, Debates
Description:
For a long time MtG was a poster at Apolyton in the OT, then in December 2000 his wife had a baby and he took some time off from Apolyton.
In April 2001 he became Off-Topic Moderator when Ming supposedly quit (there was a thread 'Ming is quitting moderatorship) and has moderated the forum since.
He is an avid poster and used to be one of Apolyton's great debaters.
He came to Apolyton from the old .owo Alpha Centauri forums and ACOL, where most posters now flame him since he became an Apolyton Moderator
Served in the same Army Division as Chris 62.
A player and poster in the Alpha Centauri section... retired from that posting job now that he is moderator.
He currently has a feud with ACOL Kitty; whom he considers to be an obnoxious DL... However, he keeps true to his word (on his forums, The Free Fire Zone) he promised not to ban anyone unless they were messing with the site; and despite several provocations, did not ban Kitty.
MichaeltheGreat countinued to run his FreeFireZone as a portal for general posting and the "Combat Mission" game until he sold it to MBloom III sometime in 2002. MBloom III tried to convert the forum into a football [soccer] forum, but failed, and received a total of zero new registered members since he assumed moderatorialship. As of Jan 1, 2003, the only occasionalvisitors to the forum are MBloom himself, chegitz guevara, DarkCloud, The Bursar and Chris62. .
MichaeltheGreat stared FreeFireZone as a forum for the internet game Combat Mission. He had about 2 Combat Mission joineess, but the majority of the traffic came on the off-topic sections of the site from former ACOLers and Apolyton spammers. The main contribuitors during that time were; devilmunchkin, DarkCloud, *End is Forever*, Venom, David Floyd, Asher, Chris62, Sir Penguin and The Bursar. Although, Eli and a few others dropped by from time to time. However, about the time that FFZ was converted into a football [Soccer] forum, many of the ACOLers left for Counterglow.
He was a major advocate of using force against Afghanistan's ruling Taliban government.
Michael the Great is married to LTEC! (Let them Eat Cake)
Also, around April 4, 2002, he stepped down from his moderatorial position as an april fools joke, giving moderator powers to his wife, who closed a thread because people were making fun of cats… Then he semi-disappeared from Apolyton after setting his post count at zero.
Now, he is presumed to be spending more time taking care of his young children, although he still moderates the OT from time to time.

aux4. Ecthelion
Former Usernames: (Andz83, Chaos Warrior)
Famous DL's: (Diplodocus, Outlaw [created for Eli], Thranduil, Strategist)
Usernumber: #5441
Real Name: Andy
Age Group: Oct 6, 1983 (20 yrs)
Nationality: German
Lives: Germany
Registered: March 23, 2000
Had/Has A Website: ?
Contribution to Apolyton: Spam [humor] , OT
Description:
Andz83 started on Apolyton and posted in the Civilization II and Off-Topic, where he discussed his favorite topics, History and Civ II.
In the Area 25 incident, his DL, Diplodocus was disabled permanently, and he was banned for 2 weeks.
He then came back as Andz, but disappeared and started posting as Chaos Warrior, without telling the other posters that he had changed his name, and being a strange and elusive figure. He gave himself away when he asked Eli to post something for him.
His main Civ III idea thread was a comprehensive terrain thread.
He admits that, over time, he turned into a spammer on Apolyton...
He then changed his name to Ecthelion and disappeared from Apolyton in May 2001, then returned in the summer. After a week of posting, he was PCRed by MarkG. Since that time, he has not been seen at Apolyton, apart from a thank you comment in the happy birthday thread dedicated to him
He was known as Provost A on the Civilization Gaming Network.
The only reason he is on the auxiliary list is because he was banned (either by choice or request, I still have to figure out which happens to be true) while I compiled this listing; thus, apologies in advance to any who would try to place him higher on the list.

aux5. Lazarus and the Gimp
Former Usernames: (Trappist, Bugs ****ing Bunny)
Famous DL's?: (none known)
Real Name: ?
Age Group: (1971) 32
Nationality: British
Lives: Britland
Registered: before 2-15-99
Had/Has A Website: ?
Contribution to Apolyton: Humor, OT
Description:
Quote:
|
I racked up about 1500 posts as "Trappist", then got the username deleted because I got bored of it (this predates the name change facility).
Then I notched up another 1500 as "Lazarus and the Gimp" before the "Curse of Apolyton" corrupted my user details and I had to register again.
The postcount you see here is what happened between re-registering as "Lazarus & the Gimp" and the abolition of "post counts that count" on the OT.
So add about 3500 to the postcount you see on my profile to get an idea of my true figure.
|
Bugs ****ing Bunny is an extremely humorous poster who hails from Britland and has frequently gotten into flame wars with other posters, but, for the most part is enjoyed by all for his strange antics.
In the months of Nov 2001- Dec 2001 he visited FreeFireZone and posted a fair amount, but has not been seen there since and has returned to Apolyton's OT and continues to post there.
He frequented ACOL for a time; and currently posts on Counterglow from time to time. Also, in the glory days of FreeFireZone, Laz was known to drop by from time to time.
He has never received a PCR…
He once interviewed AH (Alexander’s Horse) for a Faces of Apolyton article that was rejected for being too rude. It was subsequently involved in a dispute over copyright that got MarkG permanently banned from ACOL.
Every now and then in the OT, he has published “Historical Filth” articles where he researches into the ‘secret’ lives of great men and hidden histories, uncovering strange and unsettling information about Kings, Queens, Scientists, Priests and “Holy” Men. As of March, he his currently researching a new edition- reading histories and searching for a topic.
He is exceedingly well written and very good at writing. You can find some of his fiction in the Civ III-Stories section, and I encourage you to read them. He has a very unique style; with terse language that nevertheless flows.

Contribution to Apolyton: Spam. Funposts. Civ II
Description:
Comrade Dan was well known for his spam and his strange posts supporting Communism and other 'interesting' ideals.
Notable Spammer and civer. He has been confused for icedan at times, and once was insulted in a thread for insulting Australians. He was baffled.
After 50 posts and 2 hours the two eventually got things straightened out and it eventually turned out that the man offended was talking with icedan (another New Zealander) on ICQ
He was also a notable member of Rand Al'Tor's Apolytoners house in the Sims.
Comrade Dan had several arguments with Geography Dan (A Jew) and icedan (A New Zealander).
Comrade Dan left Apolyton about a month or two after the Area 25 fiasco, in which he was banned for about a month because of spam and vulgarity.
Near the end he became bitter.

Contribution to Apolyton: ACS Picks the Winners/Fantasy Gaming
Description:
Reismark was the creator of the original series "ACS Picks The Winners" for football predictions. Now known as the "Lombardi Handicappers' League", it recently completed its third season of football and will soon begin its third season of predicting the NCAA men's basketball tournament. He was also the original mind behind fantasy sports on Apolyton through sandbox.com, though that pandemic has spread in recent years to other sites and to the control of his friend Imran Siddiqui.
In September 2000 he created the Civilization Gaming Network and sucked several Apolytoners away from Apolyton, though his intention was not to compete with but rather complement all Civilization sites. It was a worthy opponent of Apolyton and received 500 members in 6 months, which works out to nearly 100 members a month.
CGN went under in May 2001 after his host discontinued its hosting plan with only one week's notice (luckily, however Reismark managed to put off disconnection for an entire month.) During the time when CGN was down, discussion moved to ezboard sites. However, CGN resurfaced in October with the help of many throughout the Civilization community, thus partially achieving the site's original goal
In June 2001, Reismark left the bulletin-board world in June when he had a 'family-emergency' but has since returned.
Reismark's frequent hangouts are Apolyton & CGN, though he can be spotted from time to time on the Frontier & CFC. Likes include football, the Yankees, dropping 15-ton safes on posters in the Coffee Shop, the various seasons of Survivor, and Chris Jericho, professional wrestling's first ever undisputed champion and personal god to many.

Had/Has A Website: Michael Jesczenka's Civ II Website
Contribution to Apolyton: Great scenarios and in-depth Civ II posts
Description: Michael Jesczenka once had a great civ II site that I discovered in August 1999 while using the internet for the second time.
(The first time I used the internet was an AOL Free Trial... thus It really didn't count as 'using the internet' so much as 'Using AOL')
His website had in-depth historical scenarios and other goodies for Civilization II.
When I came to Apolyton's Forums for the second time in August 2000
(The previous time I visited Apolyton's Forums was May 2000, but I didn't want to register, so I couldn't read any posts )
Well, when I first came to Apolyton and entered the OT I asked about Michael and heard that he left the forums after a messy argument with Giant_Squid.
Later however, I learned that he still lurked in the Apolyton forums as "Magyar Crusader", but I did not believe that Mark and Dan would allow a DL to roam free, so I did not contact him.
In December 2000 or so, his excellent Civ II website disappeared and I searched for Michael to try to contact him.
I found him on Master Angel Bob's website and attempted to talk to him; but he did not return to the forums there.
Eventually, In May 2000 he returned to Apolyton under his original username and asked it to be changed- then he disappeared and I could not ask him where his website had disappeared to.
Very very conservative. Also very very Christian. Used to loathe Turks. Still loathes Rumanians. He was often banned and flamed by other posters on Apolyton.

phoenixcager first appeared on Apolyton in the Off-Topic and Apolyton/Community forums and quickly became liked by many posters.
He has posted most everywhere on the Apolyton site, but his posts are lost because they are so well spread throught the forum.
Phoenixcager has trouble accessing the site because of the new "vBulletin" look as opposed to the old "UBB Board"
He is also present on CivWorld and many other forums run by old Apolytoners.
I seem to remember him saying that he was a military reservist in Singapore.
On the Civilization Gaming Network (CGN) he was the most active poster, posting many useful threads and keeping CGN alive, he was eventually gifted with moderator ship of several forums at CGN, until it disappeared.
phoenixcager has been posting less to the forums, though he still visits occasionally because he doesn't have free internet access anymore. (and of course; he now spends more time with his family. )
He is currently in the CTP-Multiplaying section where he is still playing 2 PBEM games.

Description:
He currently hangs out at The Frontier story forum along with Chairman_Milo, Mao, Comrade Dan, Hodad [El Awrence], and others.
He used to post frequently at CGN, but in December 2000 he faded from the boards.
I first met Shadowstrike in the Civ III ideas section where we helped craft many ideas together with UltraSonix. Together the three of us created many ideas for Civ III. Shadowstrike specialized in wonders and technology.
He later frequented the Coffee Shop in the Off-Topic, but never truly deserted the Civ III ideas section, and now posts there infrequently.
Currently, with the Coffee Shop gone (It has since reappeared under the control of himself- and since disappeared as time has worn on), he only appears at various times in Apolyton, sometimes in the Community section of the site.
Shadowstrike also frequents the official Europa Universalis boards as well as the Europa Universalis boards at Apolyton.
Although, now (as of March 2003) you can probably see him in either the Coffee shop or the Other Games section of Apolyton. And, it should be noted, he also enjoys a good game of Heroes of Might and Magic III in addition to Civilization III.
He also enjoys and visits Rollercoaster Tycoon websites.

My greatest accomplishment is my longevity at Apolyton, although I wasn’t here yet when the site was born. Minor accomplishments are my contributions to the Suriname threads and the fact I was once 4th in the rank of post-count. However, my position has decayed ever since, so I’ve decided to support abolishing PC’s as consolation.

1) knowledge/interests
Diplomacy, Video gaming, history, some random sciences, etc.
2) discussion style
My discussion style is mostly stolen/ in homage to Octopus, who left Apolyton a good bit ago and I mostly knew him on the SMAC boards. The person closest to him in style left is probably Wraith, whom I have also stolen liberally from.
3) opinions/positions
Good question. I'm not sure anybody here at Apolyton is really that close. There are plenty of psuedo-libertarian conservatives here, but I think I'm the only psuedo-libertarian liberal. Giant Squid has a quite unique political position. Ramo is a bit too socialist for my tastes, and while n.c. is an excellent reflection of me 3 years ago, I'm a bit farther from that now. And of course all the real libertarians are all pretty strong in it, placing them far away from the moderate types like myself or Imran who might concede some terms of the debate, but then proceed to find 10 zillion loopholes to stick our (liberal/conservative) agenda through.

In addition to posting in NESes, civman2000 previously played Diplomacy (but has now ceased playing that game) as well as the Civ III intersite democracy game, Civ III, and Civ II democracy games; and is a member of the game NationStates.

Description:
Orange was one of the first Off-Topic posters who I identified with and bonded with and created a friendship with. He is also the first Apolytoner whom I contacted with Instant Messenging.
He contributed to the Civ III ideas section, but it was truly in the OT where he left his mark with The Apolyton Yearbook, a guide to all Apolytoners that included their pictures.
His stances on Civ III issues are that: He hates the Iroquois and hates lots of wonders.
He is pro-abortion and anti-death penalty. He is a "Social Democrat" (read: hardline liberal/socialist )
orange is also an agnostic atheist.
DarkCloud, orange, laser, and Colony Pod participated in some very long debates (4-6 pages) at CGN, which, overall were unresolved. (DC and laser were the fascist/nationalistic/centrists), whereas orange and Colony Pod were the (Communists/Socialists/Anarchists))
orange continues to moderate the off-topic at the Civilization Gaming Network and does so quite liberally.

Contribution to Apolyton: Civ III Democracy Games
Description:
One of the most prolific-posters in recent history; Trip is known for his participation in and starting of the Civ III democracy game. As one of the founding players of Democracy Games at Apolyton, Trip is wistfully remembered and accoladed for his accomplishments and spearheading of efforts to keep democracy games going.
In addition to participating in Civ III Play By Email games; he is currently a member of every Civ III: Play The World democracy game; from Legoland, to Vox Controli, to Roleplaying, to Lux Invicta, to the other two, as well as being the Minister of War for the Civ III Intersite Game, where Apolyton plays against other Civ sites’ in a competition for honor and glory.
Trip, in addition to helping start the Civ III Democracy Game, and being its first President; he also started the PTWDG, the and founder of the PTWDG team Lux Invicta.
Since February 2003, he has been also seen in the OT from time to time. He used to do a lot of scenario work and some stuff in the general and creation forums, but hasn’t done much since December 2002.
He started playing Civilization Games around 2000 and has been playing war games since he was 10.
He lives in Colorado, and goes to Colorado State University, majoring in Computer Science and History, and he’s not married.
An interesting Fact
(courtesy obiwan18) (created in January 2003)
Assuming Trip maintains his current post count rate of 13.8 posts per day, and everyone else sustains their own, it will take Trip:
129 days to reach top 20 apolyton list, passing Stefu.
448 days to reach diety.
4858 days or 13 years to pass Ming!
If Trip increases his post count to 28.36 posts per day, he will become the next deity, ahead of Urban Ranger.
Nevertheless, Trip is almost De-facto Mao reborn (except that he posts on topic and contributes a bit more than Mao did… in the form of Democracy games, etc.) In fact, even though the script lists him as having 20 posts a day- he truly claims to be Mao-esque, truly managing about 34 posts per day since there were many months in which he posted hardly at all.. It was not until late-June that the Civ 3 DG started, which is when he started posting the most. During that time, he had over 30 posts per day, and that was after being inactive for April, May and most of June. After he left from being President of the C3DG he was inactive for another 2 or 3 months, then came back for the PTW DG. So that's 3 months and another 3 months, so he’s really been active for only 4-5 months which is an average post per day of around 34.

Triggered the idea of "Forum Wars" (team PBEM games between ACS, ACOL & CGN).
Description:
Keygen is mostly known for some things in CtP-Multiplayer forum, helping people on several aspects there, and organizing new PBEM games for newbies.
He Posts on OT once in awhile.
He won the first CtP PBEM finished in Apolyton and is involved in several CtP & SMAC/X PBEM games.
He believes that people in the CtP-Multiplayer community trust him for good advice and look up to him as a CTP veteran.
He still makes (very) few posts in ACOL & CGN. as of march 2001… as of February, 2003- he is hardly sighted at either locale and continues to make his home at Apolyton.
He is currently (slowly) working with a group of CtP funs to create a Civ/Ctp related site, CivLeague, and with Solver to create an Age of Empires site, Epochi. (As for March 2001… it is unknonw how well these sites have succeeded as of February 2002.)

Contribution to Apolyton: Civ II, humor, spam
Description:
St. Leo was one of Apolyton’s first to 2000 posts; making short and spammy posts. He was one of the original ‘funposters’ and ‘arguers,’ lumped into a group of people including Infatuation and the notorious History049. He posted heavily in the old Off Topics, in the days when there were two of them; but eventually left Apolyton for Sidgames. However, he returned when Sidgames went out of business in 2001.
He managed to get a 300 post count reduction for posting a message "This is a spam message" after being dared by another poster (Jay Bee?). Thus, it is apparent that he truly doesn’t care that much about post counts and probably spammed just for the thrill of it, and/or the fun of creating interesting semi-useless and humorous posts.
He is active in the Scenario League and his most famous scenario is the "Roman Riots" scenario (ed. note- This was an immersive game with all custom units) He has recently (march 2003), conducted an interview with a prominent Civ II Scenario-designer for the SLM Magazine and is currently awaiting its publication.
He had his "Civ II Ziggurat" hosted by Sidgames until Sidgames disappeared.

Contribution to Apolyton: CTP modmaking
Description:
Locutus is an active participant in the CTP II and CTP I democracy games as well as being an active CTP PBEMer. In addition, he sometimes posts in the NationStates forums and currently runs a nation in the game; accessable at http://www.nationstates.com and is a member of the Mac Civ Group.
He has also but contribuited a bit to CTP II strategy by cracking a few formulas and disected the CtP2 resource system.
He has not participated much in CTP Mplaying, but he did once organize a MP tournament, although it proved, in the end unsuccessful.
He is better known for his modmaking prowess; especially his SLIC programming.
He is a heavy poster in the CTP sections, sometimes blanketing the forum in his sometimes informative and always respondable to posts.
He constantly organizes succession games and tournaments, maintains lists of links and file databases (and is currently the CTP section manager for the Apolyton Directory), writes news, moderates the CTP forums maintaining the topped threads, and promotes the CtP series outside the CtP community to recruit new people, in addition to defending the CTP series from the constant derision that Civ II purists heap upon it; quite evident when you go into the chatrooms and watch the CTP-bashing, etc.
He also did a few mods for Civ III.

Contribution to Apolyton: The List
Description:
The main compiler of “The List” of ideas for Civ III, a huge project taking many hours and spanning many pages… 426 word pages I believe.
He also hates Alpha Centauri considering it a sub-par game that does not deserve the name “Sid Meier” in front of it. In fact, his hate and his experssion of it were so vitupritive that the old Alpha Centaurians still remember him blackly, claming that he drove away posters.
Nevertheless, his work for Civ III ideas is to be admired, as well as his 2000-2001 moderation of the Civ III sections… Until he decided that he hated the game, becoming disillusioned with Civ III and Sid Meier; making the fateful prediction that Sid’s next game would be “about something stupid- like golf.”
Since that time, with the advent of SimGolf, a joint venture by Sid Meier and Will Wright, the maker of the Sims, yin26 has been considered to be Sid’s alter-ego on the forums; created as an alias so that he could express his true feelings on the games.

Description:
“Hi,” “Have a nice day ”
Israeli.
Poster voted most likely to be put on others’ ignore lists due to his quirky style of posting, leaving large lines between words and sentences, spaces and always ending with “have a nice day”… strangely enough, people seem to be insulted when he tries to be friendly to them… telling him to shut up and to not tell them to have a nice day; but he persists, even in the face of adversity, despite calls of spammer and likewise.
He is a member of the macintosh civgroup, helping keep that forum section alive along with FlameFlash; and is a member of the Civ III intersite-democracy game as well as the Civ III-Democracy game… In which the December 2002 spoof of him by Aro has become an instant classic.
He is kindhearted; but many of his posts are along the lines of “I agree, etc.” That’s not to say that posts of that sort are bad or anything, in fact, in many cases, they are needed to encourage the threads’ author; but panag takes posts of that sort to an all new level. (Of course I may just be adding this last bit because I am bitter that he has overtaken me in postcount despite registering after my registration date!)

Shi Huangdi was, in the early days of the site (1998/99) an ally of the conservative poster Michael Jeszenka (altough he himself was never a proponet of theocracy or genocide.)
He later, like David Floyd and the rest of the Libertarian horde (wraith, etc), adopted a more libertarian stance on social issues.
In the old days he was involved in both the AUP and SSOM rebellions, altough now gets along well with Ming and MTG.
He is a longtime conservative debator on Apolyton Off Topic forum, and also helped playtest some civ II scenarios.

He did not start to gain lots of posts until he discovered the Off-Topic in June and began to spam it.
He was banned during the Area 25 affair... and since then 3-4 more times by MichaeltheGreat for slightly racist jokes against Palestinians. He also received a 10% PCR For posting in Colon's "Close the Earth 2025 Forum" thread.
Good friend of Ecthelion and DarkCloud. He knows Sirotnikov and just about every other Israeli poster on Apolyton
In the past couple months (Nov 2002-March 2003) he has been heavily into Civ3PBEM and the PTW demo game (under the team of Vox Controli)… also, on March 12th, he joined the Civ III intersite game and plans to participate there more in the future.

Chris 62 served in the US army from 80-86 with MichaeltheGreat in the same division.
He is a major opponent of Post Counts.
He frequents the Spanish Civilization II, Scenario League, OT, General, Multiplayer website forums.
He is a co-admin at CivFanatics as well as being; off-topic moderator, senior moderator of all Colloseum forums, except the tech section, and also moderates the other games forums. Working with Lefty Scaevola and Thunderfall, his job at Civfanatics, helping to keep the posters in line, is much like Ming’s job here at Apolyton.
He also, ( in January 2003), helped MBloomIII revive the FreeFireZone website from a dead-soccer site into a more eclectric site, featuring a “babes” section, “music” section, and once again thriving off-topic. He is currently (as of March 2003) a co-admin at the site; which is now oriented toward Americans (especially evident in its ultra-rightwing Off-Topic)
He is also a card-carrying member of the Apolyton Hall of Fame, inducted in August 2002... and ran the Faces of Apolyton Interview for Jay Bee as well as assisting Solver on several others.

I was married in 1993 and my son was born in 1997.
Served in the US Army from 80-86, and am a colege grad, with a degree in modern European history (for all the good that does me ) and hardware engineering.
I supplement my income by writing.
I like Apolyton, but post in other places as well, but lately, haven't cared much for the OTs or a lot for some of the people who post here.
I also have made some really good friends here, but I will not name them, for fear that they would be assaulted by my many enemies."

SG2 is much like SG1, except his relation to SG1 is that of friend. (His name is Ivor and He’s a Printer)
SG3 is known to Apolyton as SG1's
(SG3- please do not be angered at me, that is a quote from your father in the Apolyton/Community section )
SG{3}'s a 15 year old named Claire
Currently SG3 is trying to petition for an avatar of her own, because she does not appreciate the ironclad that her father and SG2 use for their posts.
I first got to know the Scouse Gits in August 2000, where someone made a reference to there being three of them.
I did not confirm this until the threre SG's posted in a thread made by CornMaster in November 2000.
The Scouse Gitses are best known for their work on the Great Library for Civ II, trying to catalogue all the strategy threads on Civlization II into an easy-to-use thread. The Great Library project was started around 2000 and continued on for many years.
The SG's are currently the most active Civ2 succession game players. (March 2003)
The Scouse Gitses are British.

DarkCloud was born in Stavanger, Norway. He is a Catholic who attends mass quite often; but tends toward a deistical-interventionist interpretation of the bible.
See his biography here: http://home.att.net/~sjcfg/main.html At APOLYTON: The Book
DarkCloud found the Ultimate Civilization Site in July 1998 and downloaded the Star Wars Modpack, this was the first modpack I ever downloaded, and was one of the few which resided on my computer since I did not regain internet access again until August 1999.
When I regained internet access, I found Apolyton in August of 1999 when I was searching for Civ II sites. I immediately logged it in my favorites bar and then went off to look for more sites. I found the forums in March 2000, but did not post.
When I finally used the forums during the end of July 2000, I posted in AC-Fiction and met some colorful and interesting people, such as Googlie and Hydro, the main writers in The Spartan Chronicles, a major publication of Alpha Centauri Fiction.
I proceeded to save all the Alpha Centauri fiction posts on my computer for later reading. Then I quickly wrote the first 5 chapters of "University Saga" on July 27. This story later spanned about 15-25 pages in Word and was as yet incomplete by July 30th, but since interest in the story had waned, I decided to quit writing it.
After that, I entered into some discussions with a 13 year old American named Christantine the Great. Christantine had some good ideas about revolutions and colonies, but I claimed that they were too complicated for Civ. Next I got into several debates with an Australian and a Canadian UltraSonix and Shadowstrike, who, I believe are my closest supporters in Civ III and other debates. We three formed a team in August and September, cranking out Civ III ideas a mile a minute.
UltraSonix was the thread finder, if you wanted a thread, it was likely he could find it. Shadowstrike was the idea man, coming up with tons of good ideas.
In those days we exchanged many ideas. However, my view of Apolyton widened in late August (11th), early September and as I acquired my "Warlord" level tag, I came up with a quick joke and became "Warlord of the Ring" after JRR Tolkien's "Lord of the Ring" book series. I also moved to Civ II general, Alpha Centauri general, Civ II strategy and Civ II Creation.
On September 1, an interactive game was beginning to be discussed in AC-Fiction, this game would later become "The Chiron Chronicle", GMed by myself and [LordLMP]. Some of the most active players in the game were XWaste and Argonaut. Later the game grew and we gained a new active player- Christantine the Great and some other dabblers.
I first entered OT and posted in this thread "Harry Turtledove: Master of Alternate History?" on September 4 and discussed Harry Turtledove's literary works. It was from OT where I got the idea for Civ Survivor (read below) On September 5 I created a parody of Survivor in Civ II General and the winner of it, from over 28 Apolytoner Civ Fanatics who were locked in a room turned out to be Smash, who came all the way down from Vancouver Canada to receive his prize (of being a Civ III advisor)
I had one of my posts in the "Let's Clear Up Usernames!" threads Transferred from OT to the 'Apolyton' section by Ming. This got me started looking in the Apolyton section of the site. Which is now, probably the section of the site where I have posted the most.
I was there on September 12. 2000 when "The Guild of Emperors" was first started by Provost Harrison, and then locked on September 14 for excessive spam by Ming. I was there when "The Guild of Emperors" was again posted on September 25 in the "Apolyton" section of the site and locked by MarkG. On the same subject, I was also instrumental in the reinstatement of "The Guild of Emperors" in late December.
On September 17 I started "The Apolyton Army" with people listed by their 'Posts Per Day'. General Mao ruled this army with 24 posts per day under his belt. The Army was ended on October 29 after a month of posts and two topic threads. September was also the month where I became "Prince of Posts."
In October, one of the funnier Apolyton Posters- Par4 coined the phrase Spamgate(TM). Which referred to the "Area 25 affair" in which many posters were banned for spamming in an unknown forum connected to Apolyton to increase their post counts.
---
AMENDMENT: (All above was written in October, 2000.) (Below written Jan 2001)
Since then; I became one of two Off-Topic moderators for the Civilization Gaming Network (The other being orange, which went down in early June 2001, and migrated to ezboard; I did not follow it, due to the fact that ezboard happened to lock out my account!!!! However, I was one of the first 20 to return to the Civlization Gaming Network in October 2001, when they returned to vbboard forums.
In February 2001, I joined Earth: 2025, an internet game- then interested OmniGod and others in it... He started a myriad of threads on Earth:2025 in the Other Games section. As well as a clan in the game, the "Apolyton" Clan, which, at its height, boasted about 18 members, 5 of whom were apolytoners
Eventually, an Earth: 2025 forum was created on Apolyton; which was abandoned in about June or July 2001, when Ribannah exposed a "supposed" scandal and quit the clan... OmniGod attacked several members who were accused of being multis- and the interest in Earth:2025 eroded. DarkCloud quit the game in August 2001; but was never part of the Apolyton clan... he did, however, offer hints and tips to the other players.
Also, In September 2001 orange and myself participated in a long war with Ribannah
who was attempting to convince the world that the Iroquois was a more important and glorious race than the Iroquois.
From Sept 2001 through January 2002, I spent most of my time between the Civilization Gaming Network and FreeFireZone… Then I left FreeFireZone as it became boring when less people posted there, and then I semi-abandoned CGN after achieving my title of "Historian"… And after participating in a few long debates (average 4-6 pages) that actually accomplished nothing other than informing me that it is not a good idea to attempt to vent anger in a discussion if I want the people to actually LISTEN to what I am saying. Even if they are horribly, horribly wrong .
With Civ III's release in November 2001 came my new "List for Civ4" which is accessible here: http://home.att.net/~civgames/ideas.html (It was much touted in the Civ III section for the period of two weeks)
In December 2001, about a week before Christmas DarkCloud reached Emperor level, then received a 150 PCR from MichaeltheGreat for posting a "spam message" in the OT saying "Bow to the Emperor." By mid-January, DarkCloud had returned to his former Emperor position and currently sits in the hallowed Hall of Emperors along with many other mighty and revered personages.
DarkCloud became an Emperor around Dec 2001, when there were about 60 other deities, compared to the now Jan 2003 listing of 90 Emperors and 5 Deities! Thus, with averages; Apolyton has gained about 30 Emperors a year since 2000… Although some managed Emperor status in 1999, but they were few; St Leo, Bob Dornan, etc., and one managed Deity status by Aug 2000- Apolyton seems to have exploded since 1999 and has, since 2000, continued a steady growth despite the elimination of post counts from the OT… Some might even say that it is stronger than ever, considering how there are less opportunities to gain posts nowadays (considering that the OT is the most popular section) and the numbers remain constant.
(AMENDMENT: July 2002)
In January 2002, DarkCloud wandered around the official Europa Universalis forums after a short spurt posting in the EU section of the site and receiving little help. At the EU forums DC met Carlous Rex and BiB, (Carlous is registered at poly I belive, but Bib Ain’t ) And received an enormous amount of help on the subject of EU. Posted an average of 14 posts a day, then left after reaching 200 posts and the level of First Lieutenant.
In February 2002 the Chiron Chronicle Alpha Centauri NetFiction guide was restarted with myself as the GM again… (even though LMP had renamed himself Mellian and gone on vacation he remained co-GM)
In March 2002, DarkCloud debated in the OT a bit. Posting in the abortion threads and several religion threads, arguing mostly with technophile. Technophile may have won some of the debates. DC refuses to admit anything else other than DC won the abortion argument by making an almost absurd claim that DC wouldn’t even follow, thus, technically DC won the argument technically, but technophile won it practically. And practically is what counts.
In April 2002, DarkCloud joined Philosophyforums.com, under the direction of “Paul” (not registered at Apolyton.) DC searched for Philosophyforums after a discussion in the OT with Technophile and Immortal Wombat about “Several Givens about life” in which DC tried to prove that man does exist. DC thinks he proved it sufficiently. But Immortal Wombat and technophile had misgivings. Then on April 5th, one day after DC’s birthday, MarkG reinstated the Birthday List. DC was slightly annoyed.
Eventually DC managed to become a moderator at philosophyforums.com and, to date, has about 500 posts there. The second most.
In May 2002 DC doesn’t remember much.
In June 2002 DarkCloud visited a norwegian poster’s website: Historic-Battles.com and posted a bit. The site has now grown much and is very successful, (as of July 17,2002, it has 200 members or more) DarkCloud also had fun with the new features (the D&D [later civ-unit] stats) DC also posted a bit in the Stories forum, interacting with cbraund, CivMan2000, WTE-OzWolf and other story posters.
DC also received a virus and with help from blackice and panag, managed to rid it from his system; then bought a new super-computer
In July 2002 Apolyton Hit 21000 members! DC tried to submit some banner ideas for the Apolyton Store, all three were rejected due to poor image quality But Sirotnikov thought they were ‘cute’ ideas DC also got ICQ but quit the program after repeated attacks on his system through his firewall.
August thru November 2002 are unmemorable.
Also, through some strange freak occurrence, DarkCloud and one of the 30-40 odd Norwegian-born posters were born on the same day, April 4.
(MARCH 2003 Addenum)
Also, in December 2002, DarkCloud became official Story Contest Editor for the Civ III section; and IN January 2003 was given his special title and access to the moderators section of the site for his hard work in running the Stories Contest and updating the titles in the Directory.
DarkCloud also, along with several others, ressurected the NationsStates forum section around Februray 2003, with large amounts of posts, organization of a military thread, and a campaign for new members- as well as opening of relations with other nations. The thread, from Feb to March 2003 went from 3 threads commented on a day to 20, nearly a whole page shifiting daily.
DarkCloud continues to run the Apolyton Hall of Fame and does other freelance work when he feels like it. The January 2003 HoF was fairly infamous due to the Counterglow powers’ alleged rigging of the election; and DarkCloud’s reaction to the ‘rigging’ nearly resulted in the Hall of Fame getting closed down by Ming.
---(assorted notes)
Civilization Information
A civer since 1994 when I first played Civ I at a relative's house. I owned 2 copies of civ II in 1995
Never played Deity until 1997. I have only won deity twice and tried it five times; but created the ultimate in deity difficulty (non OCC) with placing 7 nations on a 5x5 island or something like that and won the game... with a specific expansionist strategy (before the year 1000) sometime around 800
I always end up at war with everyone despite any peaceful trials and have the nations gang up on me.
I have about 20-40 MB of scenarios on my harddrive and over 2000 units
Demogame Work
Along with Gramphos, I ran the Civ III demogames' memberlist in the days before civgroups.
Also, I was one of the first members of the AC-Demogame, and the Civ II demogame... as well as being in the first 100 (I think) of the civ III demogame.
I compiled memberlists for about 2 other demogames and was a member of the Multisite Demogame.
My strategy is mostly militaristic and was for the games; but I didn't post too much- mostly did statistics for members registered. [as per my Emperor of Lists title ]
Other
In my time at Apolyton, I have probably created close to 40 lists, over 20 of them in the Off-Topic, another 5 in the Community section, and the remaining 15 being small demogame lists, lists for nationstates/chiron chronicle/ the stories contest, or huge Civ III/IV ideas compliations. DarkCloud’s list sizes run the gamut from small to medium to large undertakings.

Contribution to Apolyton: Civ III Democracy Games
Description
Major player in the Civ III and Civ III Intersite democracy games; he also plays Civ III PBEM (play by email) and is a founder of the Gathering Storm Civ III Democracy Game team (along with Sir Ralph). He is quite well known around the Democracy Game world.
He was one of the first members of the Civ III Democracy game and seems to have been a member of their Court.
And for some strange reason “Case Pink” seems to be mentioned in relation to him quite often… I’m not sure what it is, but he claims that UberKrux and Sir Ralph inspired him to write it.
notyoueither is currently one of the serving consuls, for the Intersite Democracy Game, where the various players compete versus other civilization sites, such as CivFanatics and the Firaxis team. Notyoueither was elected in February 2003 to serve along with two others.
He has played Civilization games since the original was released on DOS. It continues to be his favorite game. He first joined apolyton in 2001 looking looking for information on Civ 3. and stuck around discussing many aspects of the game with many people as well as dusting it up with some of the more vocal critics.
He was also one of the playtesters for Civ III.
Personally, he doesn’t care about his post count; but notices that no one registered after him has more posts than he does. Most of his posts came in the democracy games or civ III flaming/discussions.
He also claims to be a “bit cantankerous” and can sometimes get quite spammy in the demo-games.
Also, he created the case pink plan for destroying France in the Demogame and making the nation of Apolyton a world power! Much calculation was done as a result of the plan... and this wouldn’t be mentioned here except that it has become somewhat of a legend in the Demogame world.

Had/Has A Website: Age of Kings Website, aoe2.com (of which he is the co-webmaster)
Contribution to Apolyton: Faces of Apolyton, SMAC/CTP MP Ladder Administrator.
Description:
He was the originator of the smash hit interview series, Faces of Apolyon (FoA). Faces of Apolyton has so far interviewed 11 posters; Tau Ceti, yin26, Velociryx, WesW, Lancer, Xin Yu, Stefu, Jay Bee, Ming, DanQ (For the landmark 10th interview; a two-parter), and DarkCloud (Which DarkCloud formatted himself… But who did NOT answer his own questions… somewhere along the lines, the posters’ names who asked the questions were accidentally lost. That being the only technical blunder in Solver’s illustrious leadership of this much-lauded and much-controversial series.)
Speaking of the controversiality of the series, it sparked several imitators, including an interview of Lazarus and the Gimp, which was supposedly remarkably funny, done by Provost Harrison. (NOTE: Was this who interviewed him?) and a series of three interviews of OTers by derek, including Imran Siddiqui and Provost Harrison. Also, many Apolytoners objected to Solver intervieing 2 SMAC players in his first two interviews and a CTP player in his fourth interview instead of focusing on Civilization II players; however, this conflict was resolved after a few months bickering in the Community forum, and now has interviews scheduled from more varied realms of Apolyton; currently working on a real-time interview of Locutus (CTP), planning an interview with UberKrux (Civ III), and planning a follow-up with DanQ.
The Faces of Apolyton series centers upon asking the Apolytoners questions about what they think the game industry is doing nowadays and where it is going; as well as their thoughts on major issues in the real world and their thoughts on other posters.
He was a staff member of Apolyton sometime in 2001 and has access to the Apolyton staff room as a result of his work around September 2000, shortly after he registered, when he created a thread proposing that PBEM games be registered and the players have a ladder, getting points assigned according to their performance.
It took him than a month's worth of various debates till the system was enacted; with himself at the helm.
In addition to being the SMAC PBEM Ladder admin, he is the CTP ladder administrator and as of January 18, 2003 has over 1287 posts in the CtP-Multiplayer forum. Most of his posts have come due to his PBEM ladder administrations, some posts in the Civ III section, the Faces of Apolyton posts in the Apolyton/Community section, and through spamming the Staff Room.

Contribution to Apolyton: Civ II Strategy, Some Off-Topic
Description:
Over his years here at apolyton, has become good freinds with several posters, Orangesfwr, Albert Speer, Mleonard, EvC, Provost Harrison, Andz, Empress and others to a lesser extent.
He is a decent civ 2 player, plays aok (Age of Kings) and red alert from time to time, chess sporatically.
He greatly enjoys running and is, of course, a huge fan of the Rolling Stones.
He was banned in the area 25 scandal and many other times (anyone remember f'uck in my smilies.. numerous times, bastards limited # of smilies in post now )
I was originally Caesar the Great, long before there was a registered user, Caesar. I change my name temporarily, but I got tired of it and changed back asap, in the meantime some newbie had taken my former username.
He is becoming tired of apolyton to some extent, but still reflects his issues strongly on subjects such as music, religion and anything involving teenagers (suicide, depression etc)
He sometimes visits CGN.

Contribution to Apolyton: My Life... Threads, OT, fascism
Description:
He seems to have a hard life, his mother beats him, his girlfriend (Lee-Ann) is a drug addict, and is famous for admiting to stealing from a department store... And strangely enough, he posts all this on the site for others to read.
He has created thousands of threads on his girlfriend and his life; thus causing some Apolyton posters to ridicule him since they didn’t seem to think that he took their advice; although personally, I think he took some of the advice, just not enough to satisfy the Apolytonian OT hordes.
Some people insult him and make fun of him, but others attempt to help him.
He seems nice and helpful, and something may have happened to him as he stopped posting forever at Apolyton in January 2001, and before that he last posted in August 2000. (although since then he has been seen; according to hearsay evidence)
His username is the same as that of a prominent Fascist German member of Himmler's forces who died in 1986; reflecting his fascist beliefs… And no he is not an anti-semite, merely a moderate fascist.
One of his main beliefs was to use peer pressure on weaker students to “make them into whopping supermen like he claimed to be.”

Contribution to Apolyton: Humor, Memories
Description:
Creator of the "I have the leadership abilities of a small cantelope" quote and immortal humorous author of Apolyton.
He has spoofed everyone and everything at Apolyton during his career… Including his infamous AnnC parody.
He has created numerous memory threads on Apolyton and knows a lot about many of the posters on Apolyton.
I first met him in the Civ II General section and saw his "I have the Leadership abilities of a Small Cantaloupe" quote on the waiting quote section when a post is made.
Then I noticed his main realm, the Off-Topic and his numerous posts in it. I believe he was a member of Rand Al'Tor's October edition of the Apolyton Family in the Sims.
Stefu has created many smilies on demand for Apolytoners, and a few of his are on the current smilies list. Stefu created between 10-15 “national” smilies in 2001 for Finnish, American and other nationalities, a bunch of smilies holding little flags, acting patriotic. Many people thought they were cute. He is also the inventer of the “Kittens in Peril” “Save these Kittens” advertising slogan for Apolyton T-Shirts that were introduced in Summer 2002. (You know the shirt, the one with the green background and the evil bag-monsters)
Stefu is also renowned for his lists of ancient Apolyton history
The following is just posted here because Banana-Gate needs to be posted somewhere
Interesting events on the forums; in July or August 2001, someone (stefu?) started a survey thread poll for psychological reasons. The choices were completely random. One of the choices was "banana". Several posters picked "banana" before the thread was closed. However, the phrase "banana" became immortalized as a phrase describing a useless poll... Also; a large amount of posters started spam threads allowing people to choose various poll options; all of which included Banana. Many posters were banned one day. Including Imran Siddiqui. DarkCloud joined in on the fun; petitioning to allow polls to have more than 10 options. However I was not banned (Probably due to the fact that Banana was not an option in DC’s poll)
However, due to consistent need for 16 options in polls (for 16 civs in Civ II) The moderators, within a month, allowed all posters to use up to 16 options in all polls... Before this change, the moderators manually edited several polls to allow 16 choices.

Contribution to Apolyton: The Apolytoner's House
Description:
An Apolytoner who has had an experience with a Poltergeist while delivering things to a megastore on the graveyard shift on freight delivery.
Lancer invented the Apolytoner of the Season contest, an award for whoever has contribuited the most to Apolyton's OT.
He helped organize the Apolytoner's House, a charity home for a woman in the Phillipines, Karen Mills. The home was built from the funds of Apolytoners.
Alexander's Horse and him got into an argument about the house, I'm not sure why, AH ended up banned because he took the argument from PM's to the board and spent a week at ACOL.
Formerly served in the US Cavalry (airforce) ???
He has met Sten Sture and SuperSneak in real life.
He started the longest thread ever on one topic at Apolyton. The "What is the best MBT?" (Main Battle Tank) thread. It is archived (currently unavaliable as of Feb 2002 after the upgrade of the forums) and has over 1000 posts.
He also arranged the first ever official date between two Apolytoners with his thread, 'Apolyton Personals'. The Apolytoners are Tiamat and self biased (now engaged as of Feb 2002.)
He came up with 'Get Civilized', which is the first place slogan that appears on the new Apolyton T shirt (Available through the Apolyton Store.)
And according to Stefu he's always trying to get Apolytoners to date Phillipine Girls
He is humble and says:
Quote:
|
'The Apolytoner's House' was my project but it could also be just as easily listed in about 30 other posters bios. I sure as heck couldn't have done it alone...
|
Quote:
|
The Apolytoners house is up and providing refuge for Karen and her Mom, Sofronia, and her Mom's two other children. They were very poor, and suffering psychological abuse (at least) at the hands of Sofronia's sisters husband. Karen is the daughter of Sofronia and Terry Mills. Terry Mills is a Canadian who abandoned Sofronia, his wife, while pregnant w/ Karen. As the Philippines is a third world country, what they must have endured until Apolytoners came along is beyond my imagination.
|
Around December 2001, Lancer seemingly disappeared from Apolyton. Although, he manages to return from time to time, staying long enough to get banned for starting 5 threads in one day in the Off-Topic in early January 2003.

A frequent debator and frequentor of the Apolyton/Community section, GP also frequents the Civ II section, giving hints and advice as well as taking it.
GP wants Apolyton to convert to the "Branching Thread" formula that The Civilization II Universe employs. He believes it is more efficient, allowing the most important and discussed posts to be given priority and for there to be less discussion on the same tired old topics, as they disappear to the bottom of the pages.

I have taked two several-month voluntary bannings. Outside of these times I've been a very frequent poster (to explain the sudden jump in # of posts.) I'm primarily an OT guy.
|
From January 2002-Febuary 2002 he was under a self-imposed ban from FreeFireZone and Apolyton Civilization site due to the fact that he was spending too much time at the websites.
He again went on a self-imposed ban around Summer 2002 and, as of November 2002, has yet to emerge from it, although he does sometimes have other posters post things for him under his name… and was once implicated in sharing DanS’s login, which resulted in DanS being banned because GP posted drunk under DanS’ username (in addition to a 10% PCR.) GP has quite a record for posting while drunk… And has experienced quite a few bannings as a result of it.
On December 14, 2002, GP recently emerged from his “vacation”, also known as a “GP”, to quote the technical term on the site for such an asked banned-disappearance.

Description:
An old poster who sometimes posts humor and used to debate in the Off-Topic, but has grown tired of the off-topic and mostly playes Multiplayer succession games with Civ II.
He has contribuited a lot to the Civ II and III sections on Apolyton.
Over the Summer of 2001, he revived interest in Civilization II Multiplayer Succession games by posting in the Civ II-General Section. He created a tiny story about his first succession game in a thread that contained over 150 posts and overflowed into another thread.
Also, he seems to have disappeared from Apolyton. Hopefully he will return when Civ III is released.
He was America's biggest defender during the early days of the forums and constantly posted about how the US was going to destroy the Serbians (During the Kosovo crisis) One of the best known america-supporters, along with Ted Stryker [derek].
He is also known for logging onto Apolyton drunk on numerous occasions, all of which resulted in a gentle banning by Ming.

Contribution to Apolyton: Civ III, Off Topic, Debates
Description:
Major contribuitor to Apolyton, Apolyton's newest Deity, Provost Harrison has posted heavily in the Civ III and other sections of the site during his career.
He is a student Scientist in Britain and has met a number of British Apolytoners, Iain Lindley, Stewart Spink, etc.
He used to be a major debator in all types of threads, but has since abandoned Religious threads and has tired of debating the same old threads year after year.
Once when ProvostB, Provost Harrison, and Provost D were all active at the same time, PH created a "Chat thread for the Provosts" Chat threads have been since outlawed.
He also compiled a list of the Emperors in August or October, The Guild of Emperors and updated it with the statistics of all emperor's number of posts. He had it compiled in Excel, and released it again in December 2000.
He was studying to become PhD Biochemist, but quit sometime during 2002 and now works in a _____.
Provost Harrison reached the Deity level in December 2001, but received a large PCR 25-30% from the moderators and was banned about a week. He then created a DL and complained about his ban and said that he was not returning.
Surprise of Surprises, he did return after his ban was over, and is now recompiling his Post Count and once again posting frequently in the on-topic regions.
Since then (March 2002-Jan 2003), I think he has received a further 5% or 10% PCR for some reason or other, because at one point in my records he has 8600 or so posts, and now when I look, I see that he has about 7800 or so. Thus, Provost bears the distinction of being one of the few posters who can claim to have reached Deity multiple times; a distinction only shared by Mao and perhaps Alexander’s Horse.
derek also did an interesting interview of Provost in 2001.

Contribution to Apolyton: Civ III, Off-Topic, Spam, Trolling, Civ II MP
Description:
A notoriously spammy Deity, Alexander's Horse has started numerous "Troll" topics in various forums, saying things just to get a response.
He spammed his way to deity, posting short posts for nearly 2000 posts, but the majority of his 10000 posts were useful Civ III questions and Off-Topic debate subjects.
He received the title "Mega Troll" by fighting against Lancer in the "Karen Mills" threads. He wears his "Troll" title like a badge. However, after July 2001 or such, he lost his troll title. Nevertheless, in October or November 2001 he managed to receive the Deity label.
He was banned once for insulting Lancer (by taking a private message post [after being told to take the argument to PMs] and posting it on the boards)… and has probably been banned a second time for another fight with Lancer since then, IIRC.
He caused the entire population of Area 25 to be banned when he reported their rules violations after he saw some of the

He was once the Apolytoner of the Season for the Off-Topic. (Velociryx won for the entire site, beating AH by a narrow margin).
In January 2003, Alexander’s Horse and Ming had quite an interesting conversation on the topic of his alleged DL-rimmer… Alexander claimed that rimmer was not a DL despite some incriminating information: namely, he shared the same IP addresses and servers as AH; and the only time he posted were during the interims in which AH was banned. And also, his first two posts after AH’s banning were in AH’s defense… and then disappeared the minute AH was unrestricted… and hasn’t posted since, except when AH is restricted!
He also participates heavily into Civ II multiplaying (one of the reasons that his post count is so high- but not the only one…)
Around summer 2001 his wife gave birth to a son… and AH is already hard at work teaching his colt how to make DL’s.

He is a diehard Republican and is one of Apolyton's more colorful members.
He also argues a lot with n.c. a Democratic American poster who hates George Bush Jr.
For his Arthur Dent DL he invited Apolytoners to guess who was behind the DL.
He considers himself a Deist.
He created the famous "Excellent Adventures" thread and participated in the original Alpha Centauri Ficitional story at Sidgames along with Roland, Sergeant Sheets and others.
He is also the Apolyton Fantasy Sports guy for the United States and was the VP of the Green Army.
He also frequents the following forums: Front Office Football Central, Out of the Park Baseball, and Counterglow.

Description:
Most people hardly ever see a post by Mao. He is the master of spammy posts, posts with little content and that just seem to fade into the background.
Mao is a poster of few words.
I first heard of Mao when he reached Deity level (the first time) and was disgusted, I posted on all on-topic forums except for the CTP ones and I had never seen a post by him at all. Then I discovered the Off-Topic.
He lost his Deity status first when a PCR of 1000 posts hit him (or 10%) then he regained it and a forum bug reset his #of posts to 0. Mark fixed that and returned to him 10100 posts and he was a deity once again.
Longtime owner of the Coffee Shop.
He posted for a while, then disappeared to "The Frontier" an online story forum with "Chairman Milo". "Shadowstrike" and several other Apolytoners.
He sometimes posts in the Scenario League.
He chose the username because in a Civ II game, the Chinese leader, Mao, was an ally to him.

Contribution to Apolyton: Apolyton, Civ III
Description:
One of the creators of Apolyton, MarkG is now a deity. He has created numerous Civ III threads and maintains the site and forums.
The First Greek Civilization Site was a fairly small site, but worth visiting before the Merger with the Ultimate Civilization II site.
In August 2001 He updated to VBBulletin forums and took the archives (temporarily offline )
The upgrade helped him manage the new load of visitors to Apolyton… For a time an average 500 were on simultaneously. By March 2002, however, the flood receded to 200-300 on simultaneously and Apolyton has stayed stable for much of that time, excepting a short time in February when Mark Moved the server.
After Feburary 2002, Apolyton moved to reside on a non-profit server and cannot run any for profit ads, thus it only hosts Red Cross and charity ads. The days of the popup, popunder and UGO ads are over. As are the days when the ads advertised his other forum, "Top 40 Charts." Which he runs with his friend, Paris.
He has posted over 200 news items; not quite as many as DanQ, but still a large number nonetheless, the second most on the Most News Items listing.
You can find his picture in the Apolyton Yearbook (or at least you should be able to- he’s posted it enough times that it should be available there)
Currently, he adds new features to Apolyton for every 1000 users; including such useful features as the Quick Reply box and such infamous features as the D&D/Civ stats that used to be in every users’ sidebar, but which now reside in the users’ profiles.
He has done much work to benefit the Civ III community and deserves much thanks.
Thank you MarkG!

Usernumber: 6411
Real Name: Bill
Age Group: 49 (10-14-1954)
Nationality: American---> german/italian/irish
Lives: Chicago, Illinois, America
Registered: Registered originally at the Original Greek Site... and just continued at Apolyton when the merger occured.
Had/Has A Website: NO
Contribution to Apolyton: The List, OT and Civ Forums Moderator,
Description
The original Deity and advertising executive of Apolyton. Also the first Off-Topic moderator, (before MLeonard begged to be an assistant moderator for the off-topic)
Ming started posting frist in the Civ II forums. Most of his first posts came in the Civ II strategy section; and he participated heavily in the discussions and OCC (one-city-challenge games); then when Civ II MP:Gold came out, he posted much there and sent his turn reports and multiplayer strategies.
After the Civ III wishlist forums came up, he became heavily involved in putting together the list of Cheats and Bugs for the Official Civ III List
In the early days, all of his friends were Civ II people, and he shied away from the new Off-Topic section; but his posting style and frequency became noticed by Mark, who made him the moderator in 1999. He only started posting heavily in the OT; however, after being recruited by Mark.
During his time as OT Moderator, he has been joined by Mleonard (who made a successful campaign for off-topic moderator in 1999), who then, after becoming moderator, gradually faded away, and in March 2001 was joined by Michael the Great, who remained for some time, until his baby was born and he had to devote more time to household duties. In 2002, Ming’s evil-twin brother rah joined him in moderating the Off-topic.
Ming is a sometimes serious poster, as well as being a sometimes humorous one. His well-knowncatch phrase for a closed thread is "CASE CLOSED".
His other trademark happens to be a (wink) at the end of each post, and he is infamous for the amount of winks that he uses in his posts.
Ming and the other moderators have recently been overworked by the massive amounts of new posters present after the release of Civ III. (As of Dec 2001)
Ming manages to be online both at work and at home; certainly earning the honor as one of the most diligent moderators of all time. He has full banning rights and Post Count Reduction rights, able to access any forum section on apolyton and moderate it, including the staff room, where he maintains the sacred ban log… once a rumored secret… but now an incontrovertible fact. With all this power, Ming is almost as powerful as a Forum Administrator!

Thanks go out to Stefu, Gregor, Colon, Solver, H Tower and various other posters for information collected.

*Final Note. Between versions 2.0 and 3.0, there was an unpublished version 2.5 so some of the ‘old post count’ and moving positional data might be out of date- version 2.5 is the reason why that is true.

Thanks for the support Taz
---
and since the file directory is acting up; I'll post a preview of an updated Ming entry
(Was looking at some old threads and found some new info )
Not much an update- but just to show you that I'm still working
---
Description
The original Deity and advertising executive of Apolyton. Also the first Off-Topic moderator, (before MLeonard begged to be an assistant moderator for the off-topic)
Ming first started posting in the Civ II forums after coming to the First Greek Civilization II Site when the Addicted to Civ site shut its forums down for remodeling.
(As of Dec 2001) Especially evident in the fact that he receives about 30 post reports each day and probably closes more than three threads a day in the OT alone.

Contribution to Apolyton: The Apolyton Yearbook and the Apolyton Yearbook II
Description:
Orange was one of the first Off-Topic posters who I identified with and bonded with and created a friendship with. He is also the first Apolytoner whom I contacted with Instant Messenging.
He contributed to the Civ III ideas section, but it was truly in the OT where he left his mark with The Apolyton Yearbook, a guide to all Apolytoners that included their pictures.
His stances on Civ III issues are that: He hates the Iroquois and hates lots of wonders.
He is pro-abortion and anti-death penalty. No one is 'pro-abortion'. I'm pro-choice
He is a "Social Democrat" (read: hardline liberal/socialist )
orange is also an agnostic atheist. no one is an 'agnostic atheist'
DarkCloud, orange, laser, and Colony Pod participated in some very long debates (4-6 pages) at CGN, which, overall were unresolved. (DC and laser were the fascist/nationalistic/centrists), whereas orange and Colony Pod were the (Communists/Socialists/Anarchists)) hahaha...nothing to do with Apolyton, and inaccurate, but whatever
orange continues to moderate the off-topic at the Civilization Gaming Network and does so quite liberally.
If you like orange, you might try: Caesar the Great nice touch, though CtG and I are political opposites.

I can't even believe I'm here on this list somewhere, though I'm proud I haven't dropped much personal info around... that's always been one of my plans when coming here and actively participating (once I finally did).
I salute all the hard work done, and many thanks again on the recognition.

I'm not on the list, and I've been a lurker for 5 years, and used to post on the old TUC2S (probably under my real name if I could ever find any forum archives).
