I also play Civ with my sound off. But then again, I must be strange, as I turn off the ordinarily much loved computer sounds off completely, whenever I can.

Hmmm, maybe I'm the strange one here. After so many years of play I still like listening to the music of the various versions of Civ.

I have turned the music off but still want to hear sound effects. I think they are cool and adds more to the gaming experience.

I usually play with civ II sound effects but not music. It just annoys me. I suppose it could be worse - do you remember Colonization's TERRIBLE music?????

Single-player, off; multi-player, on. Sometimes you can hear battles or ships sinking in the far corners of the world. Any free information is welcome. Plus, the fanfare at the start of my turn helps get my attention. I'd think this would be particularly helpful for people who have admitted a predilection for surfing during MP games .

It depends what sort of mood my computer's in!!
It's a bit unstable just now, and sometimes won't play the videos, sometimes won't play the sound. Sometimes I get both, sometimes neither.
But if it lets me, I like to hear the sound.

I always leave it off. I'm either watching a sports event, listening to music, or pretending to listen to my wife babble at me She should know better than to try to have a discussion with me when I'm playing MP...

**ROTFLMAO**
Anyway, I don't play with Civ's native music, but do leave the sound effects on most of the time. Sometimes I pop in a CD on my player and play Alice Cooper's "Hey Stoopid!" while waging war on a savage AI enemy .

Sound on, music off.
Unless RealAudio's on; in that case, RealAudio takes over the sound card, and nothing else is permitted to utter a peep...

You people who run other apps like music when playing, please don't do this in multiplayer, unless you want to become real unpopular, real fast
Its not hard to tell who's doing it either.

The music is always on - ain't it grand to hear "ode to joy" while your cities rejoice at your brilliance? Or to hear the somber mourning after you crush the last gasp from some pitiful neighbor?

Listen, SG2, I'll have you know I'm my own man, I play Civ whenever and wherever I want to ... oh, hang on a sec, mate ...
"Yes dear? You'd like the house moved three feet to the right?"
Back again, SG2. Now, as I was saying ... I have to shoot through. I might be a little while.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think I could play with the sound off. It just wouldn't be the same. A bit like eating Spotted **** without the raisins.

Seeing as I play it on bcr3's computer and his roommate always plays with the sound on, I don't usually play with the music... It gets a little discordant... I like the sound effects every once in a while... 'course I never play Warcraft or Age of Empires without the sounds, so maybe I'm missing something... hmmm.
