I've been approached by Quixtar...
Ok so here's the scoop.
A Quixtar representative approached me the other day. He asked if I would like to join the Quixtar "experience" and said I would listen to him. Anyway, I went to a convention where the lead spokesman talked about how much money you could make and not talked about the actual products and what not.
Further research done via internet legitimized the company and people have said that a Quixtar participant actually does make $$$.
They (the Quixtar representatives) have compared themselves to Costco and Starbucks where there are franchises/stores in various locations and it is basically the same thing. The representative sells items online or door-to-door and makes a profit out of it. The person who introduced the new seller would make money from the company.
What I would like to know is if anyone here has had any experience/encounter's with Quixtar orAmway and what you guys think about this.
Currently I am a full-time student but have some time on my hands. If this is legitimate, I wouldn't mind the income....but is it right for me?

Any out-of-pocket expenses ?
They do have a BBB logo.
Not that that makes them gold.

This used to happen to me all the time when I was in the Army. People were always trying to get me to sign up and sell Amway.
Basically the way people make money in these operations is by recruiting people, who will wind up selling the stuff to their friends and family. Trust me, they're the only ones who will buy these products from you.
They play it off like you'll be selling to the general public, who will be very interested in what you have to sell. Most likely they won't be.

Static, so basically they say that the stuff is gonna be sold to the general public via door-to-door or internet, but in actuality only one's family members is likely to purchase the stuff AND the person above you makes the money....and that's how people actually make money out of this?

it's a scam. there are several pyramid scheme companies just like this one around and they make the money while you do all the work. One worker out of a hundred actually makes good money on this.

Personally, I wouldn't talk to anyone who refered to their company as an "experience".

Technically, they aren't pyramid schemes because they sell a product. In a pyramid scheme, you just send money around.

That's probably true.
I was a Man Friday for a woman who was successful at a couple of these. She sold a lot of stuff herself (not just to friends and families), and she also had a cadre of "down level" people.
The trick to succeeding is (a) getting a high-quality product you really believe in and can get other people to buy and (b) working hard to sell it. But when you really start to succeed though is when your recruit down-level people and teach them how to sell.
BTW: What the heck does Quixtar sell??

Quixtar apparently sells things like those large discount stores. (Costco, for example). Things ranging from toilet paper to herbal supplements and what nots.
I am still skeptical about this whole deal but am thinking about this. I'm not quite sure if I would be able to recruit other people below me tho, as my management skills are not equal to my interpersonal skills.

IIRC, the difference between a pyramid scheme and a legit business is from where the company makes most of the money. If it is from recruiting people, it is a pyramid scheme, even though a bunch of these schemes tried to make themselves look legit by having "products" to sell.

Hmmm,
So U.R. this might be one of those kinds of schemes where they look legit, but actually aren't? What's your personal take on this situation? (You've helped me b4 so I trust your opinion among other ppl here )

Let me take a look around the Web to see if I can dig up anything. So Quixtar is just a new name for Amway - strangely, I cannot even read the press items on their website without being a member.
Okay, from this page I found:
Quote:
|
For "Pro-Suming" IBOs and IBOs just "buying from themselves" with little retailing of product, AmQuix is nothing more than a "buyers club" pyramid scheme. IBO's in this mode willingly sacrifice their time and pay higher prices price studies so that they can participate in this last "legal" pyramid scheme.
|
On MLM Survivors the verdict against the company is less than glowing.
Even Skepdic classified it as a legal pyramid scheme.
So it does look like a pyramid scheme, after all.

Good Gosh!
I just read the article:
http://skepdic.com/amway.html
and it's freeking unbelievable! I went to one of these conventions and it is totally the truth! "Initiated" people wore clothing that was similar and they seemed to have enormous enthusiam. Also, I think some of these people were 'plants' who were placed in various areas of the crowd to work them up by yelling and laughing.
Oh jeez, this is pretty damn messed up. I gotta thank you once again for finding all this stuff out.........I couldn't find info like this when I was researching about Quixtar.

The funny thing is that these companies will always point to Amway and Herbalife as credible role models. The problem is that both of those companies are scams to begin with.
Everyone and his mom is out selling vitamins these days.

Hey, really you don't owe him anything.
Throw it in the trash and don't ever talk to him if you don't want to. Don't even show up for the meeting if you don't feel comfortable.

Ah, I feel like I have to....it's the responsible thing to do. Even though you guys steered me on the right path, I have to return his merchandise and tell him face-to-face that I'm not interested.
Although I won't have anymore contact with him.....

Exactly. I wouldn't even go. They like to get to you through guilt, where all else fails.
You have to understand, this is these people's whole lives. They totally buy into the mentality of it, like a cult.
Just this weekend, a friend of mine was telling me about another friend of hers who is now involved in this rubber stamp/stationary sales thing. She's become totally absorbed in that world, spends all her time with these people, attends "Stamp Camps", etc. I mean, it's totally crazy.
Run, don't walk, away from it.
