I'd really have to agree with this.

Even if you feel obliged to return his package, you can simply go, hand him back the stuff, and leave. No need in wasting your time listening to his pitch.

Right. I'll probably go and do what you guys have said. No need to worry about the guilt-trip thing, it doesn't work even when my parents try it.
I'll just do the obligatory chit-chat and then be on my merry way.
Jeez, you've guys have been a great help.

You're absolutely right: you should go, just to give him back his information and tell him "no thanks" w/o listening to his pitch. That is the right thing to do.

My sister sells Mary Kay, is that Multi-level Marketing? Is MLM the same as Network Marketing?

IIRC, the difference between a pyramid scheme and a legit business is from where the company makes most of the money. If it is from recruiting people, it is a pyramid scheme, even though a bunch of these schemes tried to make themselves look legit by having "products" to sell.
|
I think Amway is legit, but barely. There are real products you sell (usually crappy household cleaners and tacky decorations), but the real incentives are in recruiting more people to join amway and make an investment in a starting inventory and 'training kit'

It's a scam, Franky. It's a barely legal pyramid scheme. Unless you have a large potential market of people to scam into the system, it will end up costing you more money than you can make.
Do a google search and you'll see a number of sites about the Quixtar experience. I had a coworker approach me about this my first week on the new job. I was like, "Thanks, but I've already done my time in a cult. I'm not interested in joining another." Okay, I only thought that.
