Which good classic MP games have you played (and liked ;) )
In this thread 'classic games' means games from the Amiga time (Don't worry about if you only played the game, you'd like to mention, on the PC (or even if it's only avaliable on PC... it's only about games that were from that time))...

And no, this is NO poll
You should just say which classic games you played MP, and why you liked playing MP in that particular game (don't want to know about SP today )

My personal favorites where (all played on the good ol' Amiga ):

Super Cars II:

I guess this is the game I played most my MP games. This was a really good racing/destruction game (You got some super car ( ) with weapons (which you need to buy after each level... prices could differ), and in the map you had gates (opening/closing randomly), a train (running through the map at random times also) and some jumps (And you could crash you car at those places )
The game was fun in SP, but in MP it was even better (of course ), since you know play the game in different ways, that wasn't possible in SP: This could be "destruction", where Player X does everything possible to waste all other cars, while Player Y did everything possible to win the race (You had to be among the best, to enter next level, so one had to do the race)...
And since this was easy to learn, my friend (I often played against) quickly became a good opponent

The Settlers:

This game is still among the best games ever made, both for SP and MP... Though since this was hard to master (for my friends who didn't have the Amiga... or a PC), most of the time, while playing the game against my friends, I spent on trying to... ehmm... cheat them (only for a few minutes at a time, since I wanted to teach them to see when somebody is cheating on them... if they didn't discover it, I of course told them... ).
This was great fun, to play 2 vs 2 (me and my friend, against two computer players), since it had some depth in strategy, that most games published nowadays doesn't have...
(Btw, if you have played this game, but didn't find the cheat, feel free to ask... it's not an abvious one... and a fun cheat because of this )

Other honorable mentions:
Lemmings (Was fun, though never had anyone to play against )
Oil Tycoon (The Tycoon game, that got me hocked to Tycoon games... played it often against my brother... though I always lost )

lemmings online???
how the hell do you play that??

My first online game actually (via modem in fact) was duke nukem 3d and I was hooked on that for a long time (i had this one friend who played it online as well so we always battled eachother!)... after that i mostly played on mplayer (some free RTS and TBS games, which were surprisingly good), and i played a lot of gta1 too, great fun, especially with the motorcycles!

I don't think we've ever owned an amiga.. i was born in 84 so I don't know much bout it

There was a black/yellow computer though with a few cool games such as "prince of persia", pacman, and "cats", paratrooper etc...

I didn't say anything about online... have you ever heard about two players, play the same game on the same computer

And Duke Nukem 3D and GTA1 are not from the good ol' Amiga times, so they are out of the question (= too new = doesn't belong to this thread )

Oh, and I said it didn't have to be played on the Amiga, but the game should be released about the 'age of the Amiga'

Oh God. Lemmings MP. What an absolute blast. I would play this right now with anyone that can make it to Darmstadt, and be laughing my arse off in no time. This has to be the best MP feature in a game ever. Bar none. It is just complete and utter lemming swearing exploding mining building chaos. Love it.

Hard to find an opponent though.

And what about Skidmarks? This was one of my favorite Amiga games too. Oh happy memories.

Yeah, would be great it they make a new Lemmings game, with online MP feature... the creators of Lemmings doesn't exists anymore though

Skidmarks? I have heard that name, but don't remember what it was!?!

Tassadar >> Empire Earth? I think I've heard a game released within the last few years, with that name, but I don't recall... when was that one released?

Skidmarks was a race game, in a kind of isometric view with lots of skidding and crashing (as in car crash). It was great fun. It came with a special adaptor to put 4 joysticks in the back of the Amiga. Sweet

Broderbund's The Castles of Dr. Creep on the Commodore 64.

This was a cooperative game involving conveyor belts, electrodes, teleporters, monsters and more. You had to work together to escape the castles, but if someone got killed, they would start over at the beginning.

It was a contest of wills to find the best moment to electocute or trap the other player so you could make your escape alone.

There's a dos version, but it's crap.

My all time favorite C64 MP game is Spy vs Spy, the first in the series... This game was awsome (since you could lay different traps all over the house )

I could say the same thing about Scorched Earth... The Amiga version was awsome, but the PC version sucked big time...

This was a fun game as well, which I had forgotten about.

Of course, I've forgotten about most C-64 games I played, since I had so many. Pirating was fun in those days.

Actually, it's not even a DOS version, it's a bad attempt at a Windows versions, not even offical, IIRC.

It slows my computer down more than The Sims, if you can believe it.

Deathrace. One person would drive and the other would operate the weapons.

Oh, yes, Tank Wars, Scorched earth, ect... too. I also remember a game like that where you where giant monkeys ontop of buildings throwing explosive bananas around. Also worms, that's maybe too recent for you though.

I tried it again, but I still got the slowdown. Perhaps it is a 3d accelerator issue. (Although why a game like this needs a 3d accelerator, I'll never know).

I think the program never got out of beta, so it has some bugs still in it.

And the publisher has gone out of business.

North & South was a really amusing MP game back in the days. Well, I would think it still is. I found a sort of updated version of it some time back. Or, it was a new game but it was very much inspired by the old classic. Can't remember its though. It had some serious flaws though as it didn't seemed to work as a solo game and the multiplayer function was just "hot seat" and I don't play computergames togheter with others in the same room anymore.

Oh yeah... North & South... brings back lot of memories... played this game often against my brother

Though the AI cheated very much, since the AI could walk around with the infantry (or whatever they are called) at the same time they used the cannon and cavalry

Now if this was avaliable for online play

EDIT: Oops, didn't read...

I played MP games on our old Apple IIe with my brother and some friends. I can't remember the names of most of them, though. There was one where you had several different stages of assaulting some dictator's fortress, and then one where you bombarded each other's castles.

And worms was fun, too!

My brother and I owned Spectrums, BBC micros then Atari STs before we bought Amigas. (Before progressing to PCs). I remember how the Amiga was much better value for money in the UK than a PC. My first PC was over 4 times the price of my Amiga, and its capabilites and OS (DOS/Win 3.1) were not as good.

Anyway, mulitplayer games we played around that time, in addition to Settlers 2, Lemmings and North and South (which I think may have been one of those quirky french games?) included the original Populous, Powermonger (another Bullfrog game), and History line 1914-18 (had a different title in the US). This was a great split screen multiplayer game which was a predessor of the Battle Isle titles. We also played a game on the Amiga which was a bit like Risk: building up bullet shaped armies and taking over different countries. I think that this was called Global Domination. I know we played others (there was some motor cycle racing game) but I can't remember the names.

I know I still have a perfectly good working Atari ST with a couple of hundred(!) games in my attic. I just cant bring myself to throw it out.

Another of my C-64 favorites was Archon. My friend and I went head-to-head everyday afterschool for hours.

I had some great moves for the blue clubber guys. Lure that unicorn into firing and then bash it in the head. Great stuff...

One of these days I'm going to have to figure out how those C-64 emulators work and try some of these games again. It won't be the same without the two player, I would think.

You mean the original "Beach Head"? That didn't have player vs. player options. You probably mean "Beach Head 2". I love the machine gun level where one player controls the machine gun and the other in control of the troops storming it.

Such classic lines of 4-bit digitized speech as....

MEDIC! or I'M HIT!

My personal MP or player vs. player favourites? Command HQ, MULE, IK+, Archon, Star Control 1...

That's it! MAN, it was fun. I was always the dictator, and mowing down my brother's grunts was just so cool...

Do you remember a game where you flew an American bomber in the Pacific in WWII, bombing Japanese islands and ships? I can't remember what it was called, but you would strafe the ships, which would get progressively larger the further away from your carrier you went. And on the islands, little men ran between the bunkers, and you had to mow them down with your machine guns...

How could I have forgotten Sensible Soccer, or even better - Sensible World of Soccer? That was completly bonking mad. It had every proffessional football team in the world. You could play 20 seasons in the Fiji 2nd division if you really wanted. It was everything I wanted in a football game.

The challenge was to beat my brother's Liverpool FC with a team from the Iceland 3rd Division, or something. The names of some of the players... what were they on?

I wasn't online before SMAC, or indeed, I got online BECAUSE of SMAC, which is thus the only online MP I played (and mainly pbem), and to me it's also "good" and already a "CLASSIC" too

Before that I only had played Death Rally on the company's lan where I worked before, against IT lab colleagues when we were supposed to *fixing* PCs.... (hey, that was "performance testing"!!!! )

Oh, and then, I tutored for a while a colleague who had fetched a "copy" of Civ2MGE, always over the company's lan
