My Brother was called to defend settlements
I'm not 100% sure it's a settlement, but i think it's over the green line, so that would technically make it a settlement in our current dictionary.
My brother is a private and served in the army's construction center, iirc.
But since the army is short on people, he was called for duty.
He is now undergoing training in the south, and will be assigned shortly to guard a small town, a settlement as it appears.
He's supposed to spend there just over a month.
I'm a bit worried. Settlements tend to be soft spots. My mom is even more worried.
My hope is that due to the war, IDF will enter palestinian towns, and possibly enforce some sort of closure. Thus the terrorist bastards will be too busy hiding from IDF patrols, to be dealing with things like planning attacks on settlements.

Why is the army short on people? I thought everybody served over there.

there are only so many people that serve and israel is a small state
plus everyone has to be ready to be called for around a month each year or two (depending on your actual duty)
that is done to both keep people fresh , and fill up needed posts.
you can't only employ youngsters.

You should recruit among jewish communities around the world. Also non jews. I'm sure you would find some willing to help. Start a 'help defend the holyland' campaign.
I hope your brother comes home safe.

Is he against settling the Occupied Territory? If so, he should become a conscientious objector.

Hopefully your brother, and the people he'll defend, will be safe. Keep being brave, Siro, you all have the misfortune of being on the front lines of a very nasty conflict. Just remember you've got friends, and powerful ones at that.

Actually, you will have the reverse effect,.. In fact, Palestinians don't like being restricted and being oppressed in all kinds of ways, just like everybody else on this earth. A closure "could" help, though I reckon elite terrorists know their ways how to get into Israel, just like they are doing right now, don't you think? And they would increase their suicide bombings for sure.
That's the whole problem imo, the more military troops you send in, the more hostile they get, which is quite natural of course! Also, you guys probably never have heard of it but: If you treat your population well, they won't complain and you wouldn't have had this conflict, perhaps how I'm saying this now, seems a bit simplistic, but I still think it's true!

Yes, that's the spirit Lancer. Promoting a international campaign to help break a number of UN articles and resolutions. Why not start simular campaigns to help out in Tibet and West Sahara and Kurdistan while you're at it? Moron...

I hope he doesn't get hurt.
If I was an Israeli I'd gladly serve inside Israel proper as security, and would probably serve on raids against designated targets inside the Territories (though I disagree with this as a general strategy and see it as a road to continued failure), but I would not serve as point defense for settlements.
They could toss me in jail, but I wouldn't do it.

Being that he would be guarding illegally held territory, that would make him a legitimate military target...
If I were him, I would ask to be transferred somewhere else, unless he believes in what he's doing.
If he believes in what he's doing, he has to expect that someone will be trying to kill him...

Legitimate or illegitimate, the palestinians gladly kill anyone. They're bloodthirsty murderers.

Yeah, so?
You were talking about him being a legitimate military target. I simply said that such things aren't important to the pals. They kill anybody.
Whether or not Americans or anybody else is a bloodthirsty murderer doesn't matter. Palestinians are. Unless you want to refute what I said, shut your trap.

Whether the settlements are illegal or not, enemy soldiers are always legitimate military targets in wartime. That's sort of the point.

Blah, this thread is going to shite.
I am actually interested in whether or not Siro's brother has any ethical/moral misgivings about his new assignment.
