I am sorry Ixnay, this will be the last comment.

The "morality" of your weaponds really depend of your point of view. I'm sure those who support Al-Qaeda would have recognized themselves in my "poor taste" post (which I absolutely disagree with), while spitting on the US/Israeli weapons.
Such people are wrong, of course. It doesn't make the sickening display of instruments of death in the US/Israeli side any better. I am sure any Iraqi who lost part of his family would call this thread a disgrace.
|
Not correct. conventional weapons are morally ambivalent, while terrorist weapons are not.

 Exactly.
Spiff, you are usually more rational.... your reasons against posting pics of weapons is that weapons kill people, adn at this time people are dying from these weapons. Your follow up post of airplanes is about as relevant as me going into a thread about cars, and stating the blunt and general fact that the car thread is sick and tasteless becasue cars kill people everyday, adn terrorists drive around in cars.

sry ixnay, had to get that in. but i will contribute now
Anyway, here is my favorite pistol. It is the .45 ACP MK 23 pistol, AKA the SOCOM pistol. A most highly performing piece of hardware:

The one on the picture we use to call the AG3.
It's a Heckler & Koch 7.62 automatic rifle, and yeah excellent piece!
I had one when I was in the army. Terribly noisy, but easy to operate and it had an effective range for about 200m without scope. We all loved it.
A crazy friend of mine fired two AG3s at the same time from hip height and still hit the target... He told me he got a boner.

Sorry for debating in the pictures thread, but when someone calls me 4-letter words I have to respond: The intentions doesn't matter to the victims. They are dead in either case. And what makes you think awesome military hardware doesn't kill civilians on purpose? That's just a matter of the moral standard of the one who controls them, and the moral standard is low in many parts of the world. Even the Americans killed civilians on purpose in recent wars.

This thread is truly pathetic.
How can you people, at the moment a war starts, have the lunacy to start glorifying war in such a blatant way? When hundreds, maybe thousands of people will be killed and butchered, INCLUDING U.S. SOLDIERS??
Have you ever thought that the lethality of modern combat is what perhaps blinds people to the horrors of war? We see a tank hit another tank, we never see the burning flesh of the people who were in the tank trying to get outside, we see how a bomb blows up a building yet we never imagine that there are actually people inside...this goes on and on.
And yet, in an even more hipocritical action, you are told NOT to post pictures of dead people? THAT IS WHAT WAR IS ABOUT, DEATH. Ask any vet who has actually been in the front lines if war is all about shiny warplanes and nicely painted tanks. It is not.
I have nothing against a military picture thread had it gone up any other day. That the war in iraq is used as an excuse to post it is another thing entirely. Shame on you. Shame on you all.

War isnt about Death.... War is about achieving some sort of goal, that people die is an unfortunate side effect.
btw, where some people find cars, pictures or buildings pleasing, i prefer a A-10 Thunderbold instead. There isnt anything wrong with that.
Anyway, doesnt somebody have more pictures of those battleships from GF1, they looked amasing! :-)

I'm sorry... this thread would be alright, but because of timing it is not? Umm, shouldn't something morally reprehensible be intrinsically so?
It's not another thing. You're just hypersensitive.
Screw you.

I find most any engineering and general human feat spectacular. Everything from the Great Pyramids, teh Golden Gate Bridge, to space shuttles, Aircraft carriers, the incredible SR-71, stealth fighters, and ironically beuatiful nuclear explosions.

True. In the case of this thread, I have been sickened to a point I didn't reached in years. Last time I have been so sickened, it was by reading the "very extreme" (for lack of better vocabulary) horrors of the Liberia war, when I came to tears reading a newspaper.Today, when I'm talking with my friends and family, I explain my morale is low because of this very thread and the sheer display of human stupidity it is. Yes, I am not rational here, I am hurt very badly. I mean it. I still hope some people here would try to understand why I feel so badly in this thread.

Not quite. MasterZen expressed almost all of my veiws too. While I would have thought a warpics thread would have been normally poor taste in other circumstances, I find it is extremely irritating we think about how cool they are at the very moment they are killing people, which is the sole aim of weapons

This wasn't what I meant. I meant to be provocative in order for peole posting "cool pics" here to understand what it's like to show under a good light the very tools that killed your brethren, what hurted you deeply. If I didn't shock Americans with my post, maybe the memory of Sept. 11 isn't as hot as I thought. You'd notice the comparisons from the "you are sick" people on Sept. 11 begun before I posted it.

This is precisely the point. Of course, everybody knows weapons kill. But it is much easier to tolerate it when you don't look at pictures, when you don't imagine people getting shredded, when you don't imagine families crying over the bloody mess that was a husband or a mother a few seconds ago.
Yes, I know it is emotional. But this kind of emotion is needed in this very emotional thread (look at the cool weapons!). An abstract knowledge that weapons kill people can not equate in any way a concrete knowledge on how people are when they recieve weapons.
"Yeah, weapons kil, I know it already" dismissal reminds me of another dismissal that you'll probably oppose : "Yes, Saddam is a *******, no need to post new threads about it". I suppose most pro-war people will agree with me threads about concrete abuses from Saddam are useful. By the same token, pictures about concrete abuses of war are useful : they avoid to lose contact with reality, and to push the death and mayhem into abstraction.

The major difference between weapons and any other object except pesticide, is that weapons are specifically designed to kill. The fastest and the most efficient way as possible. I showed airliners whose definite purpose was to kill too, as soon as they got into the hands of the terrorists. I showed the weapons of your enemies under a good light (I tried to find good looking pics), to explain how sick this thread is.
Sikander hinted he would call me a ******* for this, and he is absolutely right.
I am sad nobody understood, except those who understood beforhand
