Newsflash! Australia pulls out of coalition!
That's right - we're pulling our troops out in protest at the cornball name given to the military operation.
When our SAS heard it was called operation "Iraqi freedom", they refused to go on with dangerous covert operations behind enemy lines. They said the operation name was just not worth risking your life for.
Australians around the country reported sudden attacks of nausea when they heard the operation name. Support for the war has plummeted in the polls. The war is now considered just too embarrassing for any Australian to admit being part of.
Church services have offered prayers that The United States will never decide that Australia needs liberating.

The working title Australian forces had was operation "kill as many Iraqi soldiers as you can in the time available". Our military planning is in confusion.
Our military has no training whatsoever in liberating people. Its main job is to kill people, preferably in coalition operations where they get to use all the cool new US weapons and bombs.
Our deep suspicion of words like "freedom" make it impossible for us to free anyone.

They could have had the decency to dub it after an animal, like operation anaconda. This bigotry is impressive.

Nah Ram Saddam is cool. It somehow reminds me of Ranskaldan too, and I like this familiarity with the name

"Desert Storm" was pretty cool. Even "Dust Devil" won't be so bad.

They used to make names randomly, I think they literally pulled them out of a hat. I would like to them use random names again.
Specifically, I would like them to use the Diablo II name generator for rare items.
Just imagine:
Operation Imp Razor
Operation Bone Flange
Operation Skull Spike
Operation Armegeddon Spire
...and many others. It would be great!

The Americans like grandiose names, the Brits go to the opposite extreme (I presume it was the Brits who named the Arnhem assault "Operation Market Garden"?)
If the rumors about SAS action around Basra are true, maybe "Operation Sand In My Sandwiches" is underway.
