GalCiv BonusPak features revealed!
Check it out http://www.galciv.com/bonuspak/
Also a glowing review posted there today, but we've seen those before in the days leading up to the release of moo3.
Any negative opinions appreciated.

Oh wow...now I am really excited about this game...the in-game mp3 player alone is a wonderful touch, but everything else there is a terrific feature...

It looks EXCELENT.
I only have one problem with it...
... They won't tell us the Australian release date.

If this is not the most cool, well designed, best supported game ever I will eat my hat - with my head still in it.

hmm..to be honest, i would've expected the enhanced setup screens to be in the normal game.
Quote:

An enhanced setup screen allows players to customize their galaxies, control their victory conditions, and provides a cleaner interface for customizing your civilization.
The enhanced civilization customization interface allows players to tweak any of the 30 or so civilization abilities. Since not all abilities are equally important, the cost of improving them is different. This gives players an unmatched ability to make each game truly a unique experience.
|
How customizable will the CD-version be then?

Yeah, duh, but the downloaded and cd-version don't include the bonuspack

Lemmy, I had the same reaction to some of the bonus pak features.
Some seem like they should be in the store bought game. Unless some of the features were designed after it went gold. Maybe after it went gold, they thought of ways to improve it even more and made a free bonus pack out of it.
But, for a free download, I guess it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, at least they aren't adding these features via an expansion pack that you have to pay for. Who would do a thing like that?

Well supposedly only non-pirated versions can get on the Stardock site to download the BonusPack according to Brad.

You'd rather not have them provide updates to the game at all then?

I might have the worst dialup connection known to man, yet 10 megs still isn't that bad.

Unfortunately, and note I am not knocking dialup, 10 megs is a miniscule download. I have played games that require that level of commitment every week. While still using dialup, I would download 30 meg files.
I would rather have a well-supported game than be scared off from patches less than 10% of the size of the latest game demo I downloaded

I am on a 56K dial-up that maxes at 24K (old wires up in these here hills) so 10M takes a while, about as long as I need to make a really good sandwich

Ah, well, my main concern was that people without an internet connection won't have all the cool stuff (and some stuff that sounds standard imo)...but then i realized they might not even know about it, so they won't miss it anyway

If you're on dial-up and worried about large downloads get a dl manager like Flashget (there's a shareware version with, I believe, full functionality) - I did that all summer and just left it on at night so that after a couple of days I could even get the monstrous > 100 meg dls.
Thankfully I have a cable connection here at school.

Getright is the download manager I have, and it works good too. Very helpful when trying to grab huge downloads.

As for features, the "original" game already had race customization, only there was less options. Same for Galaxy, the "star distribution" wasn't changeable and now is ...
As for size, indeed 10Mb is nowadays quite small, and should fit in less than 1 hour for most dialup connections (and is 3 minutes with my ADSL, which is NOT very good... )
I use DAP (Download Accelerator Plus), it usually gives 20-25% better bandwidth and allow dl resuming. I'm not sure it'll work with SDC though ...As I plan to D/L FULL 600Mb game it'll make a difference !

Not based on actually reading about what is contained in the bonus pack. It is adding features, not patching the game.

From what I read, they are adding more customization and more , what seem like, "luxury features. The MP3 player etc.
The bonus pak doesn't seem to say it fixes any gameplay issues, just adds more flexibility to theoptions that are already there.
who knows, looking forward to read what youguys say.

Ey! Before i got on the internet i was already gaming for almost 10 years....i only got a connection 4 years ago
But if there are still gamers with a 300 Mhz PC, then there surely are gamers without an internet connection.
