Heroes V
Well, new news today- heroes V was announced and some screenshots have surfaced at this site:
http://www.h3trio.com/Non_Java_Menu/nonjavamainpage.htm
it is supposed to be another "big departure" for the series. Frankly, I am looking forward to it; it seems as though it might be a good game a-la Heroes III instead of Heroes IV ! Although it has kept HIV's graphical style

St Leo- especially since Warlords is made with such a small budget, by such a small studio
Just right click and tell it to SHOW PICTURE if the screenshots don't work.

Plastic toy look? Is that related to HIV?
Sorry but I didn't understand your statement?

The screenshots look good! I don't know if they are much better than the forth in the series, since I haven't tried any of the games after number three. Is there any notable difference?

I think he means this statement from the web-site:

Art-wise, we've done away with the "plastic toy" look of the cities and towns, as is evident in this shot of the Undead capital

Heh, I think DC should use different abbreviations. I was guessing he means HoMM IV, not HIV.

Oh I see.
Well, actually , I think the graphics between H4 and H5 only differ in that H5's look a bit grittier for the cities... and their images of units seem a bit sharper.
-
all I can hope is that the gameplay of 5 will be excellent!
-
thank you for the clarifier vovansim !

I've got mixed feeligns about this. Remembering the fun-filled days of Heroes I, II and eventualy III, I can't help but feel that the series is moving away from its roots. HoMM has always felt cartoonish and gimmicky. That's some of the charm of the game. Still they've got to have new ideas. We can't have every game be a rehash of HoMM I.

I'll believe it when I see something about it at 3do's site, or a reputable game reviews site.

Hopefully they'll get hexes back in the H5 version- but the H5 graphics are a noted improvement from H4... I could live with H5's textures.
Shadowstrike- yes I like the cartoonish feel of H1/2... but H3's realism was good- it kept the basic idea and made the game more sophisiticated.
Better artwork opens the game to more people!

*nod* Better (more realistic) artwork did help Heroes III - especially since it moved towards being a more serious fantasy game (Serious in the Funny/Serious scale and not in it not being a real strategy game). I gues what eventually put me off it was how the game switched its trend from just adding more, to drastically chanigng some aged tradition (the hero towns, for instance). I suppose that's just me being old fashioned, though. New concepts are worthwhile additions after all.
