If I want to torture the AI (since I'm a sadist by nature) I like to play on chieftain or warlord.

AU-mods and regular test play I tend to do on Regent.

For a challenge I play on monarch.

I've never played on emperor.

Twice I've tried on Deity, and got my ass kicked.

I use to play on Monarch, but i find it nearly too easy now.
The problem is, Emperor on the other hand is a bit hard...

I hardly play SP anymore, in the last time I spend my time playing by e-mail and in MP democracy games. When I played SP, I played emperor for a challenge and monarch for fun. I threw in a few deity games, and although I did fairly well, I did not consider them fun.

dominating?

While I was playing, I made my way up to monarch and was constantly winning, even in bad starts. Maybe I would have made the jump to emperor, but I like pulling ahead so Monarch/Regent was where I mostly played.

But where's the fun in beating up on the AI whenever you want to and covering the world in your railroads.

Actually I might try playing a game on Chieftain again just to see how quickly I can win.

I'm so bad. I've been taking a break from Civ3 for a while. When I get back to it I'm going up to warlord !

I have played on Regent for so long that it's probably necessary to move on and try Monarch soon.

Most emperor, though I'll admit that Monarch has a better blend of challange/fun (in Emperor you just have to do too many unrealistic things to win). And Deity occasionaly, though luck is very important in winning or losing. In fact, I'd say luck is THE factor (bad start for example, bad neighbours)

Always Deity these days - I always check the start position (just retire after a few games and see if you position is hopeless on the minimap).

I'm usually behind on the tech tree, but one new advance can be traded for several others.

The key really is survival and having a big enough Civ is most of that battle - it also helps if all the other Civs try to wipe each other out. Such games are to be cherished!

Monarch, typically, sometimes reagent. I don't want a challenge, real life is enough for that!
