Expression of interest: sign-up for CityStates game
There has been much debate on what form the next Demo game should take, and a novel idea has emerged of small human teams cooperating against the AI in a multiplayer game. This is known as the CityStates idea, and discussion on it is happening here
If you are interested, sign up here. I will endeavour to keep this updated. If I do not do so for a day or three, someone else feel free to PM or annoy me and remind me.

The Political Citystates game is in the PTW Democracy Forum since it will require PTW and not simply Civ3.
But I am interested in the plain Citystates game also so sign me up.

I'm pretty sure that the exact way it will be done can be decided a little later. Right now I am hoping to get enough sign-ups to convince the fAceZ for another forum, as I don't think that both games in this one will help very much.

Three, no more than four, IMHO.
Maybe we should try the AU mode, emperor, with three handicapped civs ( no much room to expand in the beggining, bad terrain... Someone have to make the map). The question is how much challenge do we want?

sign me up. I think the more civs the better. Up to and including 16, IMHO.
I propose a civilization who's sole purpose is worldwide socialism and brotherhood.

This is a mod for citystate play
GF has brought up the idea of a citystate game mod
This is what I gleaned to date....
I have two bix files....One from genghis and one I made up last night. The one I made up needs bonuses tiles and terrain mods to get that uber growth that I think is the target here. I am working on the realism of the map. The barb Settler might need to be 15 instead to make up for the fact that the terrain will be far more varied.
.
The mission....
A basic mod where the AI has a barbarian setteler, 10 cost, no pop.
Human players breed like rabbits with bonus (wheated) grasslands and plains and floodplains. Settle and Explore with a jump on map making.
This is the mod in mind, to date....
All (human) Civs start with Map Making....
AI has a barbarian setteler, 10 cost, no pop.
Palace keeps (2-4 happy) and acts like sewer system?
Kloreep and I are working on the world we are looking to make it interesting and new. We have a few suprises up our sleeve...
Is there real intrest in this?
anyway....
so very tired...

To encourage the human teams/players to invest in their main city, I think settlers should be quite expensive, in popcost as well as shield cost. By this the human teams keep longer in the citystate-status.
Eventually we can let the palace behave like an aquaduct or sewersystem so that it can grow unlimited.
Humans and AI should be equal in the rules, if one has n advantage over the other, it has to be compensated with additional disadvantages or the other should have and advantage of the same worth.
If we discourage further settling by making the settles expensive, we can also play on normal maps instead of artificial islands.
Please let us continue the discussion in the Citystates Game thread.

just to make it interesting you could play a hugh map with 24 civs on deity. then you'd have to co-operate.

yes, but then we can't play multiplayer like in the PTW demogame. If you have solutions for it, post them please.

Yes, remember the 8 civ limit for MP games (all MP games, including PBEM), both human and AI.
This looks like an interesting concept... sign me up for now, but I have yet to decide if I'll be active or not.

Game to Date.
Kloreep and I have been working on the map and the mod for the citystates game and here is the scoop so far....
Standard World Size. (Can't Change)
3 (can change to 4) human Civs....Rome, Persia and Carthage. (Can Change)
3 AI Civs............ Iroquois Aztec and Japan. (Can Change)
AI civs get Barbarian Settler, cost=10s, no pop. All terain as roads
Emperor difficulty
Map mod, human contenent has floodplains and wheat galore.
5 ea of all resources. Some Lux monopolies, others very disperse.
Palace make +1 happy in each city and +2 happy in capitol, acts as aqueduct and sewer system.
Start with Map Making
Humans start on one contenent, they each can fit 5- 6 cities without creating friction.
I still need to figure out when do we start this game and where to draw the line with the mods.....
We need to decide the Civs to play and AI civs, if not random....
We need to get this thing organized into the city states. I see that we need three states so far.
What are they? Sword, Hammer, Lyre?
The sword can aim for domination, the Hammer the space ship and the Lyre cutural?
What do you think?

Looks cool. Maybe we should have 5-6 humans though. That would add a LOT more diplomacy and cut down on size.

I am confused....
Are they different?
I say both. But isn't there only one.
It is a PTW Bix.
In the aim for believe-ability, The terrain is more varied, thus less growth favored than what you sent me, Ghengis. I went with standard size, because I think it will keep the pace up, being smaller and all. Also on the large maps, the AI will have too much advantage.
This map I have is about 50% land and favors early exploration.
As it is, I am thinking about increasinfgh the cost of Barbarian Settlr to 15s as the AI grows very quick using them.
Three works well for the three various wins I just described earlier, But the contenent that the players start on could support four human at 4 cities each (nearing ICS spacing).
Really that is fine. I really do not think you want to have more as it will only lengthen the game. Each extra City-state is one additional turn to play. This game as-is will likely take 6-8 months.
We need people to start organizing into city-states and see what kind of civs we want to play and play against.

That was the point of having such good land for the starts, we only have one city while the AI should build up empires of 20-40 cities each. Our Citystates have to work together to overcome the AI's huge empires. We can't build any additional cities on the home island because it was designed for one city for each citystate.
Similiar to the Greeks or the Imperial Europeans. They have complete knowledge of their homeland and Rivals, its the world outside of that they they have to discover. With great risks of exploraton come great rewards.
