I was wondering . . .
are you a flamboyant heterosexual?
Do you have the outrageous tendency to talk about your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend?
Do you tell other people you're straight by displaying pictures of your loved one?
Do you insist on holding hands with your loved one in public places?
Do you advertise you being straight by celebrating your wedding, wife's pregnancy and then delivery, and your anniversary?

MrFun, if I wasn't busy pumping iron between watching real football and bar-b-quing my t-bone steak or banging my supermodel girlfriend, I'd have to say this is a somewhat hamfisted attempt to point out double standards.

I'm single. Displaying pictures of my "loved one" just doesn't strike me as being a good idea.

No.
I have been with my g/f for 4 years, but most people on Apolyton don't even know what she looks like. And I'm keeping it that way.

1. No. I'm in the closet.
2. Of course not. Why should they find out about each other?
3. Nope. People started acting weird when I had to switch to wallpaper.
4. Holding hands? Must have missed a step.
5. An anniversary? With her? If only I could last a year.

"Are you a flamboyant heterosexual?"
I don't think so. I've never boasted my heterosexuality.
"Do you have the outrageous tendency to talk about your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend?"
I do because my Girlfriend and I are together for only 2 months. I think it is the only cause.
"Do you tell other people you're straight by displaying pictures of your loved one?"
No.
"Do you insist on holding hands with your loved one in public places?"
She does. I prefer having my arm around her shoulder.
"Do you advertise you being straight by celebrating your wedding, wife's pregnancy and then delivery, and your anniversary?"
I will advertise my wedding, wife being pregnant and delivery, but it will obviosuly not being about showing I am heterosexual.
Maybe because I know no homosexual (or decalred one at least). If I was a clubber, and gays hitted on me, I would talk about my girlfriend, so that the guy knows I'm not a target.

Not usually unless significant others are the topic or I am asked a question.

Sure do and will . . . Does walking with a pregnant wife count ??
I know that the point of this thread was a sideswipe at those that complain about "flamboyant homosexuals" who do exactly the same behaviors with their same-sex partners.
Personally my opinion is simple-- homosexual or heterosexual, I think people have every right to show affection . . hold hands, a little kiss, display a picture or mention their significant other when the converstaion warrants. The only thing I don't like in public is over-top sexual behavior-- humping or making out in public if the location makes it innapropriate. There are some behaviors that just aren't appropriate in certain location IMHO and sexual orientation is irrelevant to that

I was bored -- I know that most Apolytoners would agree with me anyway, that people can show affection and talk about their significant others regardless of sexual orientation.

What is the typical attitude towards homo/bisexuals in Alberta these days anyway?

So I gather it's nothing like the Catholic, private university that I'm graduating from in May?

Probably not.
Does your university even have policies against discrimination of sexual orientation?

Hell no -- in fact, two years ago, I found out about the campus' gay-straight alliance organization that existed only in name because it had no active members.
I got involved in trying to revive it, but to no avail -- there is no active faculty or administrative support for this organization except for the advisor if a faculty member is interested.

That's terrible.
There's a very large gay-straight alliance type program here. I've never attended myself (no need to) but I know quite a few who have: www.ucalgary.ca/~glass
They even host an annual "Gender Bender" dance on campus which is quite popular.
