All this CP stuff... making me kinda homesick for my old job. Guess I will have to run for term I (or will it be XI?) in the new demo game. Although the first two terms are usually a no brainer (we only had 4 cities until we started after the american gringo's who invaded out banana sanctified jungles.....) and it was mostly handled by consensus as the first couple of persons elected didn't do anything..... ah, I miss my petty little dictatorship....

Start with PTW 1.14, then upgrade to 1.21 as soon as it becomes available worldwide.

At present it looks like 1.14 will have it, as all those with 1.21 can go back, but not all those with 1.14 can go forward.

On the start with 1.14f and upgrade to 1.21f idea:
Isn't there some kind of imcombatibity with upgrading games from 1.14f to 1.21f? Or is that just with PBEM games?

The version I have is PTW 1.14f - so clearly I'd prefer this. We can always upgrade when the Euros get 1.21f.

Are there any strong objections to PtW v1.14f and upgrading to v1.21f as soon as the European versions are available? This is what I see as the best option, else we have to wait until v1.21 is available everywhere to even start.

Only the candiates for President and canidates for ministers would need to have 1.21f to start.

...Or we can just start with the 1.14 and upgrade later. It's less restrictive.

Simple as that.

I like this.
And ptw 1.14 with the 'upgrade eventually' plan.

Hey
I have been away for a while
I hope this is still open for voting
Anyways, I vote for Civ3 1.29f so the most n00bs can play and we don't need no duel-install or nothing

Well the results at this point are really close, but I believe this indicates we should err on the side of caution and go for PtW v1.14f, and poll on upgrading to v1.21f later.
Fair enough?

If we do not use the most modern tools (1.21) available, we'll never advance as a civ.
Actually, I have never heard of =anyone= not able to play the newest patch due to some language (or any other) restriction. And yes, the discussion goes on every time. In fact, I upgraded to 1.21, so I won't be able to play 1.14 without downgrading again (and I'm not going to do that, since I won't be able to play with my friends then).

Surely the fact that 20 odd voted for v1.14f shows you that there are a fair number who can't play v1.21f for some reason?
There is no need for you to downgrade, simply install two version of Civ3. Hell, I currently have 4 on my computer - vanilla Civ3 versions 1.21f, 1.29f and PtW version 1.14f and 1.21f.
It's not very hard to do (I can help if anyone wants). Besides, you can load the save in v1.21f if you want to look at troops and things. The only thing may be that loading an earlier game save may mean that some things (eg trade negotiations) may not have the same results as if loaded in the correct version. We're almost certainly going to upgrade, and it looks like people want this game to be available to as many as possible. Until the latest version is available to Europe as well, why not just live with the upgrade from vanilla Civ3 v1.16f (Demo game 1) to PtW v1.14f? Just remember how may non-Americans there are around.

AFAIK you can upgrade a PTW save from 1.14f to 1.21f with no problems; so far, I haven't found any reports of weird bugs and problems when upgrading PTW saves to 1.21f (unlike the things I've read about upgrading from Civ3 1.21f to 1.29f). Therefore, unless some problems do come up with time, I suppose that we can always upgrade to PTW 1.21f later on, when everyone or at least a vast majority can upgrade to match.

No. That only shows that there are a fair number who think that there are another fair number that can't play 1.21f.
So far, I haven't seen or heard from anybody of that second 'fair number'...

I was hoping you didn't see that little loophole in my post, BFM....
Anyway, the results speak for themselves. There are as many who want v1.14f as there are v1.21f. I think this calls for a repoll on these two choices only. Vote for the highest one you yourself can play on, and ignore everyone else. If someone cannot play on v1.21f, we will see it in their votes. If everyone can play v1.21f then we will see no-one will vote for the earlier version.
Again, fair enough?

Hey! If we go with Civ3 1.29f, then we can skip this problem all together and not have to do dual-installs or downgrading.
