In all honesty, I hadn't even noticed what was going on in Maniac's avatar. While I agree with Mr. President and find such rather offensive in our own county, people in other nations have a right to have an opinion of our country, no matter how extreme, as long as they don't act on those impulses.
From my readings of Maniac's posts, while he may disapprove of American political outcomes at the current time, he has yet to be rude or in any other way hostile to me, and we both participate in the AC DG. So if he's hostile to somebody, it's not because of their country of orgin.

Indeed. For example I'm friendly against lucky22, an American, but can get into hostile debates against Archaic, a libertarian New Zealander.

Maniacs avatar is fine by me as an expression of free speech. It's obvious that he's carefully considered the pros and cons of doing using such an avatar and after thoughtful reflection has chosen to use it. He understands that such expressions of free speech may be offensive to some people and may incite acts of violence towards him. Obviously, he's willing to live with the consequences of his position and I salute his bravery. Hopefully, he will journey to the USA in order to discuss his opinions on this matter in a more personal manner than through a PC.

Is that an attempt to lure me to the USA, and lynch me the minute I arrive?

Why?
I guess I could always fight fire with fire (no pun intended) and look for a picture of a burning French or Russian flag.

Meanwhile, in the 19th century....
British Officer - Do you have a flag?
Indian Guy - We don't need a flag - we live here! There's 500 million of us!
British Officer - No flag, no country! You can't have one! Those are the rules that ... I've just made up.

Umm, they keep you warm? They promote nationalism? They give young men something symbolic to throw away their lives for? They are useful when justifying killing the citizens of another country.
Sure us Euros understand the true meaning of flags. That's why we don't care if you burn them.

Hey, I'm trying to take this lightly like someone on page 2 suggested. Don't push it.

Jealous?
Edit: After some furter consideration, I'd like to rephrase a sentence of mine:
Quote:
|
As -Jrabbit says, this avatar is a representation of some of my beliefs, as I don't like the current American political-economic-social-ethical-cultural system,
|
to the more nuanced:
Quote:
|
the current mainstream American political-economic-ideological system
|
That sentence was kind of bugging me. I wouldn't want people to see me as someone thinking in black and white.

This puzzles me.
Ming's location is Mingapulco. Well, I thought that it was the location for the banned, who have no means to post in these forums. Is this a bug?

After 2 world wars, invading our countries tons of times and having 20~30 official languages... Yep
For example, Alsace, Loraine and Säarland nowadays don't know if the local language is german or french because they have been invaded a lot of times, and somebody is saying that they speak a new language ( ).
We know BY FAR what mean a flag, and we don't want to relate our emotions to some nice colors.
So, I agree with the free avatar theme (except for the Mingcode of rules).

hey, i got banned for several avatars that offened people, Ming.
how are you drawing this line anyway? are you going to say something to the effect of "burning flags isn't intended to offend people" ? that image is used as an appeal to indignation, dragging any flag waving american into the debate in an angered state.
a burning flag is a sign of hate. perhaps not as much as a swastika, the SS logo, or the White Power logos (KKK Red blood drop, etc) but a sign of hate none the less.
the US allows anyone to wear such signs, and they allow people to burn flags. how are you to draw another line such as this?

Ming stays in Mingapulco and has his agents kidnap other Apolytoners, then drags them to his lair for torture.
Whoa guys, some ppl are getting really angry at this. I say that everyone should calm down and take what other ppl say with a grain of salt.

It's all a matter of opinion... There are no clear rules, just a feeling. A burning flag is considered a political statement, not a symbol of hate. You are welcome to disagree with that... but that's my opinion.
You are one of the few people that have been asked to change yours... so it is indeed a rare event considering the many different avatars here

what if, hypothetically, i wish to deliever the "political statement" that the white race is superior. All the "others" could just disagree with it, no?
: sigh : me and my avatars
