SOME PEOPLE just aren't thinking!
And I need to get to that stage.
You see, I have OCD. I can't stop obsessing about things. At night, I'll obesess about demons or me being crazy or the stove being off or an intruder being in the house or even debating on Poly (What if I was banned FOREVER? What if someone framed me for hacking into Poly and plastered "TASSADAR RULZ" on every page and Markos got the ISP to SHUT OFF MY CONNECTION? What if I trolled someone so much that theyre going to commit SUICIDE and I'll have to live with the GUILT?! What if I told some Israeli that they sucked and then Tel Aviv was NUKED?! Etc etc etc). I'll worry about not finding keys or my boss firing me or my wife getting a disease or my wife being diagnosed with a disease or me being diagnosed with a disease (and the emotinal toll it would take on my wife and children) or my child not suceeding or whatever. And its tiring.
How do I shut my mind off to get to sleep? To operate in the day?? This is really killing me. I know, this thread will probably sink to the bottom of the Sea of Poly, BUT......I suppose its worth a try.

Get shoes that are one size too small. The pain will surely take your thoughts away from anything else. (This from Judge Dredd...)

I wouldn't advise shutting your mind off to go to sleep. When I do that I always start feeling the effects of sleep paralysis and then I can't sleep for the next 2 hours because I'm scared it will happen again.

Try medication.
If not, just ride it out. Keep dreaming and soon you'll be in the land of snooze

Have you tried professional help? I can relate because I tend to worry overmuch about certain things as well, but if you feel it has reached the point where it is disrupting your life then you should seek help. You're getting yourself trapped in a cage, and someone who's been trained might be able to help you find the exit, or at least manage it better.

I have a slight touch of that, I can turn off the stove and walk away only to worry I left it on and HAVE to go back and make sure it's off. Occasionally double checking things is about the extent of it though...

Seriously, do see a psychiatrist and get worked up. See what they have to say. Perhaps there is a medication that will make your burden a lot lighter. Even if they can't do anything for you, you aren't risking much at all, and it sounds like the payoff would be very nice for you.

Do not touch medication - too many of the available drugs are addictive (psychologically if not chemically).
Try relaxation techniques. Nothing fancy, either focusing on your breathing or visualising you are somewhere nice both work well.
Get a sense of perspective. In about 4 billion years the Sun will expand and consume this planet, by which time you, I and everyone else alive today won't be around to worry about it.

My wife has OCD (brought about, believe it or not, by pregnancy hormones) and it isn't pretty. I hope you do well, Tass.

I have no meaningful suggestion, nor a valid point-of-reference; but having said that, I'll echo JohnT's well-wishes, and remind there's more than 1 way to skin a cat.

I have OCD as well. However, since coming to college, it has not been nearly as painful as it was a year ago. What happened to me was, whenever interested in a girl, I make sure that all my rituals are done perfectly, no matter what. If I think twice about something, I do it over. Then, I got more dicked over by this one girl than ever before. That's when I realized subconciously that my compulsiveness had no hold over reality.

That's not unusual. I double check occasionally. Usually only when I've been doing something on auto-pilot and thus not thinking or remembering what I'm doing.
If I remember doing something I have no compulsion to recheck, although my mother does recheck even when she knows she did it right the first time.

well I dont know how much this advice will help but here it goes. One thing I think that would help you is realize that when you are in bed trying to go to sleep, there is nothing really you can do about the things you are worrying about, so dont worry about them right at that time, try to think about it latter. Just take one day at a time.
Also I think it would be helpfull to realize that the things you mentioned to us, well they have a low chance of happening. So keep in mind the real chances of those things happening.
For example you worry about getting sick. Well if you are in good health now, you most likely wont get sick, and if you do it wont be for a long time.
Also try seeing a doctor too.

 That was uncalled for, Shi.
Anyway, yes I'm already with a therapist (Whos great BTW. I tell her I'm in a financial pickle and suddenly its all free ). I'm on 100 MG of Celexa, 2 MG of Ativan. Taking Procardia because of a VERY recent spike in my blood pressure (Literally, one day I go there and its normal. The next I go and its 200/130.).
It's just that it doesnt seem to be working....That shocking therapy is out of the question and surgery is also out of the question. And yes I'm taking Melatonin to get to sleep (3 MG) but it always takes about 1.5 hours.....And during that time I worry obsessively.

I don't think informed people use shock therapy any more.
At least not outside ACS.
The best thing is, you're dealing with a problem.
Unrealized, it would be far worse, IMO.

:Hmmm: I'd upgrade to a 64 MG AtiVan if you want to play some of the latest games, but given that you only have a 100 MG Celexa harddrive, you're not going to have much space to put any on it. What's this a laptop?

DaShi, are you naturally moronic, or does it take a lot of effort.
It must take a lot of effort, because that was some weak sh1t.
Friday. Time to ban DaShi again.

It does takes a lot of effort actually. I have to work these out days in advance and then hope that someone will post something close enough for me to use one of my predetermined responses.
