How the *$^*# do I slow population growth?
My new nation, Dakmoristan, has existed like a day and already the population is up by a million. (I did notice this the first time around, but I never mentioned it.) I don't know if this has been discussed previously, but I was wondering if there was any way to control the rate at which your population increases. I just want to be a small country this time!

I think if you have bad policies (like low freedoms and economy) then the growth is slower.

I don't think it's possible. Just declare the NS population figures to be a bureaucratic error by the UN, and invent your own.

You can affect the rate of growth. Two countries started at the same time, but with different policies, will have a different population level after a certain amount of days.

8 to 9 million is a what, 12% population growth figure? Even the bad nations on our planet range from 3-6%!

Just assume the deficit is immigration from the huge numbers of nations that cease to exist every day.

Actually, as it gets higher, the % growth rate slows. Mine grows at about 10-15 Million per day (year in game time) or just over 1%.
You can affect it, but I have no idea how. I just seem to affect it thr right way

Another question: If you tell it not to send new issues in the settings area, how does it affect population growth and other statistics?

I think it will slow it. Population might could well be based on activity. No-one is quite sure though.

Here's hoping that some of the recoding Max is going to do with the original nationstates sometime soon will allow for issues that actually directly influence the population control levels.

Until 50 Mio. nations grow regulary, I've controlled that. After that, hmmm, maybe a question of healthcare and mortilaty rate ?
-10 mio: 1 mio per day
- 20: 2
-30: 3
-40: 4
-50: 5
Maybe until 100 Mio it was regulary too and grow after the same pattern.

I doubt it, mine didnt't grow that regularly. It was at 2 mill per day when it hit 12 million, and at 50 million it was going up 5 or 6 per day, yet at 500 million it only grew at 9 or 10 per day, and still the same at 1200 million now.

No, i meant till the size of 10 mio it grows 1 per day and so on, and after 50 or 100 mio the growth is unregulary.

Quite possibly. Certainly seems to end up quite like that. Of course, before about 50 million, most nations have not passed enough to alter it much anyway.

Why do you want to slow population growth?

It's totally not working - I turned off new issues, and my population still grew by four million overnight.

Small nations suck because they make easy targets for invasion. Not that I would do such a thing.
