Hehe I always suspected Skanky was the master of single-smiley spam (spam flavour 4 was it?).......but now it has been proven, and by the master of meta-spam himself.

This is plain wrong ! Skanky often one-smilie-spams in the OT ! A good one-smilie-spam is one that gives you +1

Then maybe we should get back on topic...
When you make bets on when the next "post stats question" thread will be started.

I think you want the "you know......" thread. Though pretending you didn't realise and posting this there as well is an interesting way to get closer to Deity.

I sincerely wanted to get back on topic, but confused myself with which topic this thread was about. BC distracted me...
I noticed the gaff right after I posted, but decided to leave it as I thought others would either laugh at my mistake or see the humor of getting us back onto the topic from another thread.
I see you obliged

Ok I have read most stuff in this thread. And yes the +1 is nice.
But when you think of Princes and Kings and Emperors you think they at least play the CIV games from time to time.
It is not uncommon to find Kings who can talk the talk but actually haven't played any PBem game recently if all.
For me a King and above, should at least should be able to point to
A) regular pbem participation
B) adding knowledge to the game
c) modding games (now there's the challenge).
Maybe there should be titles such as 'player (veteran) in 100 completed pbems'
Designer (CMN) of 50 games.
Participant from start, middle to finish in DG.
To simply acquire +1 for a comment devalues things.

What do you mean with "adding knowledge to the game"?
Giving tips about it, doing some modification of the files, creating scenarios?

Its not easy being a deity - if I get a 10% pcr I lose a 1000 posts.
I've had several of those.

exactly that sort of thing and more.
Recently I learned about the names of custom designed units in SMAC and how the names for the units came about. Very interesting.
I also learned about the somewhat obscure 'Nessus Canyon' feature in scenario building.
I find that adds to the pool of knowledge

It should be possible to get to deity. If I ever return to post at Apolyton concertedly, at any rate. Of course that would requier something on-topic to post about.. *wanders off to find out about this cool "Civ" game he's heard a lot about*

No. We should take bets on how long said thread will last.
I say 5 mins.

Check out the CtP threads... quite a few Kings and Emperors around there that are quite active in PBEM.

Heh... I can say I do A and C, but I'm still getting my butt handed to me in most PBEMs so I can't really add much knowledge... instead I suck knowledge from others in a vain attempt to improve my powergraph rating.

I take it you don't PBEM much??? Or have you not realized that PBEM games last a long time? I've only seen one game thus far end of mine in PBEM, and it was a one on one game where the guy just killed me off. All others are still running strong.

If you reach that level you obviously are either a spammer or a civ player, thanks for stating the obvious

so people should be devalued because they haven't played civ for a while but still hang around in the OTF?

Sure, lets complicate the title system just for the hell of it. Who would keep track of incrementing the # of pbems completed or the number of scenarios you designed, and is there a certain minimum amount of effort needed to increase your design count?
Who's going to go back and count up all that stuff for the civ2 members? Many of us have been here since 1969 Or at least 1999 anyways.

Yeah I'm a bit sceptical about using PBEM participation as a yardstick for making useful posts.........to me PBEM is civ meets watching paint dry.
To be honest there aren't many posters that get emperor or deity without a long term interest in civ. All of the active emperors and deities that I can think of play either Civ2 or Civ3, and many have made contributions as the strategy of the games has evolved.

I never, ever played PBEM. I must be unworthy of my postcount, obviously
(for the record : I was a very active DemoGamer, have posted many ideas in the Civ3 general, and am an installed OTer, but since I don't PBEM, that must make me an unworthy spammer )
