The Court: Judge Elections
Here's what you've been waiting for people, the elections for who will be promoted to the bench. Please choose up to 5 options, as we need 5 judges to be elected. In the case of a tie, there will be a repoll of all tied results for 5th place, lasting 2 days. Nominations are (in order received):
Drogue - The Commonwealth of Akiria
Jack_www - The United States of Jackson
Giovanni Wine - The Kingdom of Wine
red_jon - The Federation of Redfern
Archaic - The Commonwealth of Alecrast
GeneralTacticus - The Republic of Centralis
SlowwHand - The Republic of North Texas
jdd2007 - The People's Republic of Uberlandia
Malleus - The Confederacy of Upper Riis.
You have 3 days.
Good luck to all

Let me put on my politician hat.
13th lowest crime rate, for ACS.
UN Category: New York Times Democracy
Civil Rights: Average
Economy: Good
Political Freedoms: Superb
The Republic of North Texas is a enormous, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 456 million enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.
The enormous government juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Religion & Spirituality. The average income tax rate is 19%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.
Corporations donate huge sums of money to favored politicians, the alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, marijuana is legal in the privacy of your own home, and voting is voluntary. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. North Texas's national animal is the Longhorn, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Dollar.

14 now, and still going. Another couple of days too, so maybe get even better Thanks for the support. Looks like the 4th and 5th place are *very* open. Looking forward to a good contest. Sorry for the wrong link to Centralis, has been corrected
Sloww: Is this a boasting thread I don't really want to post my UN report out, since there are links to them in the first post, although a list of achievements might be helpful, for those that have not been here as long. If people wish to hear it, I will post it, and advise every other candidate to do the same.

Uberlandia has the largest military in the region. While the dictator (myself) can weild an iron fist, and does so, Uberlandia has progressive liberal policies on certain issues.

19 voters now. I guess leaving the poll open for so long is going to get us that good response afterall. Though if we manage 30 is a very different question. I hadn't expected things to be quite this tight. It's amazing that no nation has recieved a full 19 votes IMO.

Largest per captia. However, since Akiria is just below you in terms of per capita military (3rd or 4th IIRC) and also has by far the highest population, I doubt you have the largest military in total
Yep, it's a 3 day poll. Hopefull we can get another 4 or 5 in the next 30 odd hours

Since we have 19 voters here and only 13 in the Chief Judge Poll, I though I had better post a link to it. Please vote in both, we want as democratic a turnout as possible.

Vote for me. For attractive furries created to your exact specifications both physically and mentally in Alecrast's world class genetic labs. Which means they'll probably want to sleep with you (And if they don't, it's because you don't want them too. You freak. ^^; ).

I move in the urgent Sheepstan case that anyone with troops one Sheepstan soild not be allowed to adjudicate the case.
hence the follwoing list of possible judges are forbidden from hering this case.

I agree. If they have troops stationed there, they cannot be impartial. I would also urge Judicial candidates to refrain from publicizing (or even having) opinions, until the case is in court.
I suppose if the Chief Judge cannot rule in a case, the next highest in the Chief Judge poll becomes the deputy, and thus takes over Chief Judgeship (for example, if Centralis wins, then he cannot be Chief Judge for that particular case, so we have a Deputy who can fill in).

I don't see why Centralis should be forbidden from hearing the case. They're essentially in there as ODSN peacekeepers, representatives of the judges.
Myself on the other hand is a different kettle of fish. I will of course stand down from hearing the case, and ask that Redfern take my place for the duration of it. Assuming I become a judge and not Redfern anyway.

No. 5 Judges are chosen in case some are involved in the case, as we only need 3 to hear it. So no other judges will be appointed, just the top 5.
Centralis should be banned from hearing it. The ODSN have no say in this, and they have declared their support for one nation. Moreover, their ties with Alecrast hardly make them impartial. They have declared their opinions already, so cannot be unbiased IMHO. Therefore, I would ask GT to not be a judge for this case.

Ah, very well then. I was under the mistaken impression that the ODSN was the arm of the courts.

No. The ODSN was a seperate entity, an alliance, that was started by a group of countries, primarily concerned with their own defense and security. Akiria has no part in this, either does the court or the UN. All power it has is self-granted.

I think it's just the competition. With 9 relatively active and respected members up for the vote, some are bound to get a little left out. I'm sure you'd do very well as a Judge, but you can only choose 5.

Ok.. since everyone issued an election campaign, than here is mine.
Vote me, and I'll send you all a Ferrari F40 of the 1987 (or if you prefer a Lamboghini Diablo of the 1990)*

...actually does that mean I should still get one?
BTW, I am actually 1:18 the size of a normal person. So it'd be a great acquisition!
Back ON topic...
Is the courst going to be 1 head judges & 5 judges? Or 5 judges one of which has been elected head judge? (I did actually vote in both polls, but picked my head judge choice from one of my judge choices).

The latter: it will be 5 Judges, of which 1 will be the Chief Judge. I am presuming that the person that comes top of the Chief Justice Poll will be one of the top 5. It would be quite amazing if that did not happen.
Is this campaigning, or just blatant bribes
Wanted: Drogue for Judge (and Chief Judge)
Reward: An impartial, fair, neutral, peaceful and (hopefully) enjoyable Court.
and if you don't my military will squish you to a pulp
