Which civilisation do we play as?
The discussion thread has been open long enough, and now it's time to vote. All options supported in the discussion are included here to vote for.
You have one vote, so choose the option you like best. After the poll is closed, a repoll will be done with all of the options here that get within 6 votes (10% of our membership) of the highest number of votes for any one choice.
The choices are as follows. The abbreviations in brackets refer to the civ traits allocated to that civ. Also included are the UUs of each civ.
How to make a random choice is yet to be determined.
Vikings (Mil, Exp) Berserk 6-2-1
Americans (Ind, Exp) F-15 8-4-6 Bombard 4 Rate of Fire 2
Chinese (Mil, Ind) Rider 4-4-3
Carthage (Ind, Comm) Numidian Mercenary 2-3-1
Korea (Com, Sci) Hwach'a 0-0-1 Bombard 12 Rate of Fire 1
Germany (Sci, Mil) Panzer 16-8-3
Greece (Sci, Comm) Hoplite 1-3-1
India (Rel, Comm) Elephant 4-3-2 (no resources needed)
Babylon (Rel, Sci) Bowmen 2-2-1
Ottomans (Sci, Ind) Sipahi 8-3-3-
Rome (Mil, Comm) Legion 3-3-1
Celts (Mil, Rel) Gallic Swordsman 3-2-2
English (Exp, Comm) Man O' War 3-2-4 Bombard 3 Rate of Fire 2
Japan (Mil, Rel) Samurai 4-4-2
Random
Mongols (Mil, Exp) Keshik 4-2-2 (No Iron needed, crosses Mts as plains)
5 days....

Let's play the English to maximize the challenge.
I guess there will probably be a tie-breaker poll later?

the celtic unit is far overrated, in my opinion.
first off, it's cost is too expensive at such an early part of the game.
second, if we don't get iron, we'll have to scramble for it.
third, our golden age will come far too early.
fourth, the celtic unit becomes obsolete rather quickly (feudalism).
The Berzerk is 6.2.1 amphibious, no resources. sure, they're expensive, but they come at the beginning of the middle ages, where our cities are going to be growing rapidly. also, they last a lot longer than the galliac warror, as Berzerks are an even match for RIFLEMEN. every defensive unit before that it TOAST.
amphibious is also not to be overlooked, it comes in handy more than you would think, simply because mariens in civ3 suck ass
having an amphibious unit that mops the floor with defenders is freaking awesome! you can penetrate deep into enemy territory and sieze valuable coastal cities the same turn the war starts! ugh! BERSERKIR!!!

Random.
I think we can already see what the run-off options will be (Vikings, Celts, Random). Could we specify the random selection process? Like what civs or traits to exclude and how the pick will be made.

Mongols were the doom whores of the previous civ games.
I chose random, just to throw everyone off, then saw it's tied for first. I feel like a dweeb.

i'm with joncnunn and BFM - English. One crummy trait - one mediocre trait - and reasonably useless UU.
The only plus is that if you start on an island - you are only two techs to map making. Only civ in the game with that advantage.

Definitely the Vikings. Since getting PTW, I've had my most enjoyable games as them (or even as Carthage).

For those who picked Random, what if the Random is Egypt again ?
I think we should choose any one Random from the new Civilisations in PTW. And draw one from the bag.

I say just pure random, and if it infact becomes Egypt, then we could poll for a restart.
