Cats vs. Dogs.
Throughout history, there have been many epic rivalries. Romans and Germans. Russians and Finns. Israelis and Palestinians. Texas and Oklahoma.

But the most earth shattering of them all? Obviously, the eternal Cats vs. Dog. Who shall win, when open warfare breaks out?

Cats:
The wily animals from Hell. Demonic familiars. More lazy than Lonestar, but move like lightening.
Individualist.

Dogs:
Big, dumb brutes. Can really do a good job of chomping your hand off. Social animals.

I say dogs, just because I prefer pets who acknowledge my existence.

Cats - Dogs are for people with too much time and too little friends/sex/other social life.

Cats are easier - none of the walking, bathing, etc.

cats are the way forward, you just have to feed them and let them out afterwards, they do the rest themselves. they don't leave a mess, they can exercise themselves and they still give you love and affection.

also nothing like them for keeping down the vermin if you live in the countryside

Dogs for me as well. They are more fun and lively than cats. They also come in more variaties, so you get a very wide pick of size, shape, and personality. Cats may look different, but breed traits are nowhere as pronounced as in dogs.

Cats are for chicks. An idiotic autistic acting animal that women love to give personality traits to that don't really exist. Cats are stupid. Might as well get a fish.

Dogs rule!

You know Andrew -- I am curious about what you said.

Why is it really, that cat breeds are less pronounced in differences than dogs in all seriousness?

anyone??

House cats or all cats, 'cause there's a pretty big freakin difference between a house cat and a lion.

The muslims have the right idea about dogs: the should be used as tools, not kept as pets

And cats are less likely to eat up half your child

Well, as Andrew said, dog breeds have developed strict standards, not only of look but behavior. The only working jobs cats have had is pest control, soemthing for which they are already, by nature, emminently designed for. dogs, on the other hand, have been used for 15,000 years and have been shpaed to fulfill endless different types of duties. Certainly a dog used for police work can't act like a herder, or a ratter, or a racing dog, or a dog built to hang on to the nose of a bull in some bloodsport.

The second we start trying to race cast and have police cats is the day we begin to really create different actin breeds of cats..and knowing cats, that will never be.

*The household "Pride" made me vote for them.*

Cats are the most popular pet in the US today. The thing is, feral cats are a danger to the environment, while feral dog colonies don't really exist. If you care for the environment, get a dog.

Look at number of registered pets. cats are number 1, and have been for a few years.

Sorry Tass, but you are just like any American..
Oh, and in my neighborhood, increasingly overrun by Russians, they seem to be the biggest dog fanciers.

I've always heard that dogs are the number 1 thing in America. If cats are, then maybe this country isn't so bad after all

Ok, I'll admit it: Russians dont overwhelmingly support cats. BUT, the majority of them still do

More people prefer dogs, but there are more cats than dogs in the country. You're more likely to see someone with 10 or so cats than 10 or so dogs.

As for why "cats are less likely to eat half your child" as someone said... the only reason that might be true is because cats are much smaller than the average dog. If cats were as big as, say, a border collie, no one would keep them as a pet, because they would be a serious danger to the lives of children AND adults.
