I hear that sales of very large Union Jacks have increased dramatically since that start of the war with many orders comming from forces in Iraq who seem to somehow still believe that US forces are smart enough to tell them apart from Iraqi flags.

What a mistake that is. Although they might be on to something. Even with the amount of FF incidents, I'm sure that there will be many more Iraqi deaths. An Australian or British flag might make "Coalition" forces hesitate for a second before pulling the trigger.

The Americans blow up themselves too.
I fear they cannot tell the difference between an Abrams, T72 and Challenger....

People make mistakes. Jesus ******* Christ! Do you honestly think that with the number of bombs and missles released from planes that not a single one will hit friendly forces?

I think that the US army is filled with triggerhappy rednecks with an IQ of a brick. I dont want to insult the exeptions here, but I think the majority of professional soldiers are like that.
greenday: bombs are not being dropped randomly. It SHOULD be clear where the enemy is, and where the friend is. An A-10 blasting a Challenger tank to pieces with its cannon can hardly be contributed to bad luck...

There have been friendly fire incidents where British forces have fired on other British forces. It's not just the Americans. I just think that most of the forces in these conflicts tend to be American so the chances of them being involved is higher.

A french (!) reporter who has followed the troops from Kuwait to Bagdhad reported disciplinary problems among some American soldiers: "They shoot things up just for fun, forgetting their mission as liberators and acting like conquerors."

Well mikeH, you can look at this from two perspectives:
1. The Brits have a much larger choice of targets, cause there's a lot of Yanks around, and
2. There is a lot of Yanks shooting at the Brits.
That means that....
a) the Brits should shoot up a lot more Yanks
b) Yanks should shoot up more Brits
These two cancel each other out, and you see who the real triggerhappy dumbasses are...

I thought he was making a comment about how our (and I assume the US media) spends so much more time concerning themselves with coallition casualties than anyone elses.

The fire support was being called in by an American officer in the convoy that was bombed.

I'm not expert, having never been in the military, but it seems to me that these types of things are a result of having a shitload of firepower hanging around looking for targets... of which there aren't many left.

Well friendly fire incidents are common in all wars. Its just a bit surprising with all the technology that this one happened.
Either the pilot screwed up or the officer calling in the fire.
