Ideas on bringing members back?
According to the civgroup list, we have 28 members, and yet I only see around 8 of us actually participating in the forum. Does anyone have any ideas on how we can bring people who so recently interested in the game, back?
List of those in the civgroup:

I am itching for action!
Perhaps if we mass PM-ed all the lazy people en-masse and reminded them of their loyalties!

There's no polls. But then, this is the Soviet Union.
Perhaps when we get to the point where we can actually do something - as opposed to just shepherding our T-28s and Refugees to the rear - we could solicit the opinion of the people?
Where do we attack, and when?
What units to build? Wonders?
etc, etc.

The problem with this Demo game is that there seems to be a disparity in RF experience/skill among the various members. Some of us have played RF a lot, some a little (me) , some not much at all. So perhaps some people are reluctant to step up, for fear of leading us astray and handing the Motherland to the fascists.
For example, up to a month ago, I had no idea that the key tech to race for was Mobile Warfare II, for the KV-1. I didn't realize it was best to attack units in a minefield, and I didn't know that 'Industry' was the key terrain improvement. So this has been a learning experience, and I'm playing a RF game on my own now, so that I can later volunteer to be a front commander or run for Marshal.

it was quite active when we were asking what to do with the front line and all that
once this summer is over we can make some polls and people will suggest a few things

Nice observations!
The good thing about RF is that as long as you kill any attackers just outside your cities with little loss's to yourself and build cheap cossacks you can survive the german onslaught. This is good for new commanders to RF. The stavka can then offer advice if a commander asks for some tips on their turn.
ie 6,000 yo why don't you take the murmansk front, you are active and in the end the game is fun whether you win or lose cities.
As for drumming up more interest well can the marshal private email all the members with the latest pravda and promotion vacencies?
I also think if we keep the game moving without any delays that it will build confidence too (see stavka thread on 3day idea)
PS I agree with you all that the first summer is a bit bland, i;m sure once we get to winter 41/42 that people will emerge as you can start doing things in the game stratergy wise.

Well I've offered a few ideas for strategy and the like, but there isn't really that much to get involved in at the moment unless you're in some position of authority. I would like to participate more but unfortunately I'm in University until the end of May (without Civ2), so until then all I can really offer is advice.

I'm here and looking at things, but there hasn't been too much stuff where my opinion wasn't already voiced by the majority. No point in posting (save getting +1) unless I have something to say.
I do think we should have polls more often...I think that would spark more interest.

seems like in the early game there is a general consensus among front commanders (who for the most part are the people who have spent the most time playing this scenario). Also, the prepatory briefing thread outlined the generally agreed upon ways to attack the game (and we've had the discussion on what is and isn't a cheat). Once the almost scripted turns are out of the way, i suspect there may be a little more opportunity for discussion or ideas for polls.

I'd agree with sugestions that more polls are needed. I visit this board every day, and there never seems to be any (quick) way to contribute.

I think the marshal needs to post more pictures with his turn reports.

I didn't exactly do this but I did publish some pictures today. Take a look around the threads.
I also STRONGLY encourage all the Front Commanders and the Ministers to open threads and post pictures there as well. If you have already opened one go ahead and do some pictures this turn or next.
Thanks

As for posting pictures, you can take screenshots using "print screen" instead of using some ghetto program like hypersnap to take screenshots. please!
I'll set up a thread ASAP for the North-West Front!

Well, this is my first post. I'm new here in the sense that I have never posted, but I have been following this PBEM since some time. I would like to join since I enjoyed playing RF, but I have problems with the redfront.bat (it closes immediately after opening )
Nevertheless, for people not knowing the game it must be very difficult to understand, without any maps. Therefor, I humbly suggest to post more maps!
Just my opinion,
Michaël

Are you running WinXP? Stick choice.com in c:/windows/system32 folder.

Thanks a LOT EZRhino! It works again. Yes, I have XP, so that was probably the problem (I never had problems on my old computer where I had Windows98).
I had found a temporary solution: copy-pasting in the .bat and just leaving the necessit things, but that isn't easy at all.
Thanks,
Michaël

Shaka: did you set up choice.com in the c:/windows/system32 folder? If that doesn't work, put it in the same directory as the .bat file and try that. BEtween those 2 it should work...
