Is it my imagination ......
or is it slightly past time to stop publishing reviews of the Civ3 game. The game has been out for a year and a half. Why do we keep seeing 'new' reviews of Civ3 on the intro pages? What other game in the industry is reviewed ad infinitum?

The problem is, there's a lot of "specialized" sites and magazines around, and they can't seem to coordinate themselves to just review it in the first 6 months or so. For some of them, maybe Civ3 is hot news.

Yes, that has slightly bothered me for a long time now. Most games fall from headlines in two or three months, Civ3 was no exception. Then, when some no-one's-ever-heard-of gaming website makes review over a year later, you just got to wonder what they were thinking. It makes them look so funny.

But it is such a great game that it deserves to be reviewed every week.

I think it is good that this site makes those reviews available. People who have not played the game can look up the review and decide whether or not to buy the game without having to wade through and make sense squillions of forum posts dealing with particular aspects of a game they nothing about.

Heh. I do understand that it is in the interest of the site propriators to keep publishing whatever (good) news comes up. But you guys are just reinforcing their procrastination!

Just seems kind wierd. The reviews aren't all that useful anyway.

"The game is a worthy successor to Civ2. Huzzah! The game is addictive and I spent 8 hours on the computer! Hoo-rah! There are a squintillion patches, but the support seems to be pretty good. Amazing!"

No new info has been revealed for quite a while.

I think these minor game sites really can't keep track of all things they intend to cover and their owners probably don't have much time to dedicate to the sites, so they end up reviewing the game after a long time.

I can easily imagine that some of the people who are in charge of these sites weren't really interested in Civ3 when it was released, and after a lot of time, they keep hearing people praising the game, so they might have thought "hey, what the hell, I'll have to check out this game".

You raised a point... How many such sites have teams composed by 10 people at most? That would be an explanation. They just get overloaded.

If you have an obscure, little known website, the best way to generate some hits and get your name out there is to release a review at a quiet time after all the big boys have long since moved on. For example, you wouldnt want to do your tap dancing act alongside Fred Astaire, nobody would pay attention to you. But if you wait till the following night when youre on your own, you might get some recognition.

It would require a lot of tap dancing to get anyone's attention here.

But I know what you mean. I still think that many of these sites are more for "no-stress" work than to actually gain some money for it. Just like a second non-stressful job.

I essentially agree. A hobby site run by a few folks with day jobs will almost always be obscure and little known. As the lion said to the goat: 'Its a jungle out there kid'

hi ,

a great game deserves this

some reviews are written by people who only spend two hours with the game , others by people who spend days on it , ......

so when a new review comes out its more then normal to read them , ....

have a nice day
