Favorite AC and Civ2 wonder flicks.
I am sure this has already been asked, long ago, but I need the break. So, what are your favorite wonder or secret project pics from Civ2 and AC?
From Civ2:
1. Bach's cathedral
2. Hoover Damn
3. Colossus
from AC:
1. Voice of Planet
2. the Cloning Vats
3. The Space Elevator

It's been so long since I spent time with Civ2 that I can't rightly remember, but for me, in SMAX, the two hands down winners are:
1) The Cloudbase Academy....gets the blood pumping every time!
2) The Dream Twister. Those spooky, eerie, horrible images followed by these white words, imprinted on an all black screen:
Three blind mice
Three blind mice
See how they run
See how they run.....
~Assassin's Redoubt - Final transmission
A masterpiece. Makes you reeeeally not want to know exactly what occured there, but gives you a chilling idea nonetheless.

I've mostly forgotten them, but I remember I loved the Planetary Datalinks one, maybe because of Lal's tone
Hey, why is this thread in the OT ? What are you doing to our postcount ?

Hell, I would be half-way to emperor right now if this forum colunted, but it doesn't, so I remain a Prince.

The single best wonder movie EVER created is the Hanging Gardens from Civ 2, in my opinion.

In SMAC...
1. Dream Twister. For the reasons Vel mentioned.
2. Self-Aware Colony. Best CG of all the movies, length, and images from inside a futuristic colony. Also, does a very good job of conveying that feeling of being watched.
3. Cloning Vats. A whole boatload of style in this one, and an implication of an ethical question.

A lot of the live action video used in SMAC comes from a video/movie which explores the ethical issues in the world through silent documentary. I think it was called Bakura but it's been sooooo long since I've seen it....

Smac :
I plan to live forever...
What do I care for your suffering? Pain, even agony...
Eternity lies ahead of us, and behind. Have you drunk your fill?
I heard the last one so many times that I can probably repeat it with the exact intonations...

In CTP1 ( yes, that's right! ): the "end to all deseases" thingee.
"Mommy, what is "sick"?" just made me shead a tear. *emotional*

While on the subject, would anyone happen to know of the "stock footage" clip where they got the scenes for the cloning vats from? I know those images are out of a factory farm, and I've seen them a few times before, but I'd like to know where they originally came from.
It's been so long since I played AC that I can't really say which is my favorite. They where all really good, though. The wonder movies, back story, and just all around atmosphere was absolutely great in AC.

In SMAC: Cloning Vats and Dream Twister. But I also like the Weather Paradigm, maybe because it was the first one that I saw (and I got all "oooooohhhhh! this is cool!").
In Civ2: Leo's is wonderful, that catchy tune remained in my head for a long time. The Colossus and Bach's Cathedral are also wonderful.

And you probably played for the University.
Actually, I played all the factions a bit except for University, Belivers, and Spartans which never really appealed to me. Infact, I don't think I even played a single game as the University or Believers. I did try the Spartans once, though.
And I didn't play the Gaians or Peace keepers a whole lot either, actually. Most of my games where either as the Hive or Morganites.
It's kind of funny - although my real-life ideologies would fit the Gaians, they don't appeal to me at all. Maybe it is because it's too close to my real life, and sort of defeating the purpose of playing a game. It's the same in roleplaying games, too. My first character is inevitably a druid type, but I never feel comfortable playing him and can never roleplay - I always end up playing as some big stupid monster like an ogre or minotaur or something. Kind of like the Hive and Morganites, I guess.

Smax - Cloud Base Academy - Gotta love the fighter jockeys fight scene in the canyons.
SMAC - Network Backbone - Just 'cause I love hearing Morgan do his best Bill Gates impression
Civ2 - Leonardo's Workshop - No particular reason
Civ3 - Ummm.......... Jeez it's just so hard to pick a favorite

The live video footage ones in SMAC, especially the Cloning Vats and the Dream Twister. I also liked the minimalistic "innards of a particle accelerator" feel of the Supercollider video.
In Civ2, my favorites were the Great Library, Leonardo's Workshop, Bach's Cathedral and Women's Suffrage - all for the music.

All of them? I got the impression that some of them were done really quickly and dirtily... for example, Xenoempathy Dome and Citizen's Defence Force (which was only a lot of camera runs over one still picture) and the Neural Amplifier were letdowns. A couple of the movies had a nice idea but a bad execution - for example, Hunter-Seeker Algorithm (IMO) and The Virtual World (which would have been nice otherwise but the equipment on that guy's face was just too silly).

Now I am going to demonstrate pedantry...the civ2 video for Isaac Newton's College. You know where it zooms into the university city at the beginning? Well Isaac Newton was based in Cambridge...yet the video quite clearly shows Oxford (All Souls College and Radcliffe Camera quite clearly in view) Naughty, naughty...
But favourite video? Oh, has to be some of the SMAC ones...The Space Elevator or The Pholus Mutagen (I am odd like that )

Shakespeare's Theatre in Civ2.
Bonus, can anyone remember what play was used, and what was said?
