Well just for your info, Bangkok, that we know as the capital of Thailand, is not actually called that here. The first time I found out was when I asked for directions and was told to take the Krungthep-Nontaburi road, on my map it did not exist.
Most people here just refer to the city as Krungthep or Krungthepmahanakorn.
Well here is the official name:
Krungthepmahanakornamornratanakosinmahintarayuttay amahadilokphopnopparatrajathaniburiromudomrajaniwe smahasatharnamornphimarnavatarnsathitsakkattiyavis anukamprasit.
Try and say that in one go. I have a friend who really can.
Here is the whole meaning:
krungthep mahanakorn
The great city of angels,
amorn rattanakosin mahintara yutthaya mahadilok phop
the supreme unconqueralble land of the great immortal divinity (Indra),
noparat rajathani burirom
the royal capital of nine noble gems, the pleasant city,
udomrajaniwes mahasatharn
with plenty of grand royal palaces,
amorn phimarn avatarnsathit
and divine paradises for the reincarnated deity (Vishnu),
sakkatattiya visanukam prasit
given by Indra and created by the god of crafting (Visnukarma).

The place I've lived in with the most beautiful name: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Nice meaning, too.
In the world I kinda like "Maribor", "Corsica", "Garmich-Parterkirchen", "Madeira" and "Iringa".

Kathmandu (Nepal) is a fancy city name.
'Moskva' ('Moscow' in Russian) also sounds great.
